Our security does not hinge on their freedom; it hinges on their knowing that we are not to be trifled with. Exactly!!!
Unfortunately, current trends make it appear that we can be more than trifled with, we can be beaten. The whole world of radical islam is now emboldened, and on the march.
And no, I don't blame Obama. It was Bush II's to lose, and he lost it. If only Bush had understood your statement above.

Most of the middle east tribes, and tribes is what they are, require, and seem to prefer, the rule of dictators, secular, religious, or both.

But Obama has to help his Muslim brothers to set up the new Islamic Caliphate.
Preparing the way for the 12th Imam and the destruction of Israel (and America).

It's tough when you see people who do want natural freedom being mowed down by their own governments. The problem is these people have taken on their tyrants ill prepared, light arms and little disciplined leadership. Then when the tyrants attack, they are dependent upon the UN and the world to save them. Not a good way to revolt.

Unfortunately there is no current candidate for President who is willing to admit that nation building has been (and ever will be) a failure, except Paul who takes it about an order of magnitude too far.
Newt's recent statements are a baby step in the right direction.

When are they going to hold sacred the beliefs of American Catholics. To quote a John Prine song (I know he's a lefty, but even leftiy songwritters sometimes hit on a relevant phrase), "A question's not really a question if you know the answer too".

When Muslims are killing Muslims it would be culturally insensitive to interfere.

THe trouble was fabian that the freedom lovers in these groups were ill-prepared for actually winning and ruling and so groups having little to do with freedom and more to do with Islamization are likely to be in power when all is said and done.
Very sad for those who were filled with so much hope.
Cheers

Yes , true. And at the root of those ursurpers of freedom is the cult of Islam., ie, satanism pretending to be a Godly religion.

The people who want freedom and then mowed down by the opposition that is more hardcode.....not everyone in Russia who wanted the Czar out in 1917 was a Bolshevik, but the Bolsheviks were the most ruthless of all of the groups that did oppose the Czar.

Vietnamization did succeed. By the end of 1971, the Viet Cong was contained if not moribund. Had we armed South Vietnam with weapons and honored our security guarantee, in 1974-75 the north would never have invaded or they would have been repulsed. Sadly, the two greatest victories for the communists were the false reporting of the Tet Offensive and the Watergate Scandal. The first pushed the Democrats to the left and the second gave the leftists power.

ARVN's had plenty of weapons, they just failed to employ them properly. Example-they walked away from over 100 airplanes at Da Nang. Poor/corrupt/incompetent leadership. Their army never recovered from the staggering losses of their best forces during Op Lam Son 719. Pres. Thieu pulled back from Central Highlands position. Big mistake. He then pulled his best forces (Marines/Airborne)out of MR 1. Another major mistake. He failed to issue orders to his commanders at Da Nang, and as a result, the commander said,"Every man for himself!" The country folded up like a $7 suitcase.
But yes, America stood by and watched, hamstrung by Democrat freezing of funds for the war. No air cover (U.S.A.). Results predictable...

9/11 was committed by Sunnis. Al Queda is a Sunni organization. If Syria devolves into Shiite/Sunni civil war, I’ll be cheering the Shiite side — while munching popcorn.
