Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 4 percentage points in Gallup’s latest national head-to-head polling.

If the election were held Thursday, 50 percent said they would support Romney, versus 46 percent who would support Obama, according to Gallup. The president holds the edge on former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), 49 percent to 48 percent.

.it’s easier to get rid of a shitty Republican than it is to get rid of Obama.

Huh? Obama can only serve four more years. If Romney reaches the White House, we're stuck with him or a Democrat for eight years.

The party that holds the White House almost always loses seats in Congress. With Obama in office, Republicans are sure to gain seats. With Romney in office, signing on to liberal policies, Republicans are sure to end up in the minority in Congress. A Romney Presidency will wipe out all the gains made in 2010.

Oh please.

Unlike Nixon’s craggy face, or, for that matter, Gingrich’s, Romney’s does not look lived in. His eyes don’t show the mileage of a veteran fighter’s journey through triumphs and hard knocks—the profile that Americans prefer to immaculate perfection in a leader during tough times

As if Obama's eyes show some kind of "mileage"?

As much as I'd prefer Romney not to be the front-runner, I would NEVER listen to Frank Rich.

He ran for Senate almost 20 years ago, and then served a full term as Governor in Massachusetts...plus was well known and vetted running for President 4 years ago

Correct, we know a lot about Romney. We know his record as governor of Massachusetts was to the left of Bill Clinton. We know he gave us the original version of Obamacare. We know he raised taxes and fees $700 million. We know he signed gay marriage into law and was rabidly pro-abortion. We know he has flip-flopped on issue after issue.

Putting that sort of man in the White House will move the Republican party to the left and cripple the conservative movement for at least a decade.

If Mittens is the nominee, the election is lost, whether he beats Obama or not.

I would vote for Madoff/Manson over Obama if forced to to get the Obamunist out of office.

We can’t endure 4 more years of this hell.

Sure mittens will probably be awful, but the 10% chance he might be ok is still better than the 100% chance of obama collapsing america w the path we are on.

"has newt been elected?...hell he is promising 6.6 million new jobs and balance budget in first term no less"

Newt has a proven track record of responding to "no way you can" with "I just did".

History has proven Newt's remarkable ability to make good on bold claims.

Newt possesses proven effective visionary leadership. You, however, appear to be the other end of each spectrum.

None of the Repub candidates have a clue about the savagery about to be unleashed on them by Obama’s crew. Sad.

“Obama can only serve four more years. If Romney reaches the White House, we’re stuck with him or a Democrat for eight years.”

So what’s your suggestion? to vote for Obama? And if 4 years from now the republican nominee is still not up to your standards you’ll vote for the democrat again?

A wise man once said that you go to war with the army you have. Not the one you wish you had. You are advocating surrender and defeat. It’s very likely that in the next 4 years Thomas and Scalia will retire. Obama will appoint young socialists and the democrat controlled senate will confirm them. But I guess you’d be fine with that since your strategy is to enable them at every step of the way. Not very smart.

>>Wait until the unemployment figures hit for February.

You’re dreaming. In another article today on FR last week the Obamaites reported another drop in unemployment. We know that’s a lie, but how many voters will bother to check?

Not many people around here seem to get that. He's a rino - we get it. But to say he's as bad as obama is ridiculous.

So what’s your suggestion? to vote for Obama?

I'd suggest voting for a conservative third-party candidate.

A wise man once said that you go to war with the army you have. Not the one you wish you had.

How did that work out with Arnold Schwarzenegger in California? Or Michael Bloomberg in New York? Did voting for them make things better or worse for conservatives?

. It’s very likely that in the next 4 years Thomas and Scalia will retire.

Why on earth would you think Thomas would return? I doubt Scalia will either with Obama in office.

Regardless, look at the liberal judges Romney put on courts in Massachusetts and tell why you'd trust him to make Supreme Court nominations.

There is even a scenario where Romney could move the Supreme court dramatically to left. Anthony Kennedy has said he won't retire with a Democratic President in office but would with a Republican in office. If that happens and Romney pulls what Bush 41 did and gives us another David Souter, the court moves dramatically to the left.

. But I guess you’d be fine with that since your strategy is to enable them at every step of the way

I oppose your strategy which will leave us without a conservative in the White House for EIGHT YEARS and will result in Democrats taking back Congress. Even worse, Romney will be able to push through liberal policies Obama could only dream of getting into law like a VAT tax, something Romney's advisers are already floating.

Mindless thinking any Republican is going to make things better is naive, at best, and moronic at worst.

With Obama in office, Republicans are sure to gain seats.

Seeing that the newly minted Republican House couldn't even successfully repeal the ban on incandescent light bulbs much less defund Obamacare or put up a fight when Obama appointed czars while the House was in session, Republicans gaining seats in Congress does little to allay any fears. It will just give Boehner more people to hand him tissues while he blubbers.

As pointed out in earlier posts, national polling is meaningless. Obummer polls way ahead in Kalifornia, Sickinois, and NuYawk, which he’s gonna win no matter what. But in the rest of the states, not so much. 2012 is probably gonna be an electoral vote blowout against Oshite4brains, absent some Black Swan event of course.

We know all we need to know about Romney, enough to know he is not most of our first choice for the presidency or even second or third perhaps. But we also know he is not a corrupt, Marxist Man from Nowhere whom he would be running against in the General Election. Hence he is infinitely preferable to The Disaster.

What business colleagues knew about him is neither here nor there. Few where I spent my working days knew much about me and I cared to know little about them. So Mitt isn’t a Chatty-Cathy who likes to drink with the guys?

I’ll trust any Republicans’ Supreme Court picks over any Democrat. Republicans sometimes get it right, but Democrats ALWAYS get it wrong.

If unemployment really is dropping and things are really getting better, than Republicans will need to address it instead of insisting everything is still going to s**t. We constantly emphasize not sticking our head in the sand about bad news, we shouldn’t do it over good news either. If Americans see signs on the ground that the economy is finally meeting their standards, Obama will get a lot of credit and Republicans need to prove he shouldnt instead of downplaying real evidence that prospects have gotten brighter. We’ve seen by now the effects of being passive about it.

On this agree. While beating Obama is the mission and we must remove him for any potential of recovery, I really don't have any doubt Romney is going to be a real setback to our party and conservatism in the long run. It is an awful situation.
