Thank you for your service. We need more peace officers like you.

You seem to be forgetting that the LEO were called to the scene because a round had been sent through the neighbors house and he was apparently believed to be the shooter.
That is an indication that he was a danger and his further refusal to engage in a reasonable conversation regarding the event, but instead get a weapon indicates that he is a danger times 2. And there are STILL more indications that this was not [treated] a priority:
- The police waited hours to make any sort of action
- They allowed him to leave his home
- [From the article] he ran* past their blockade
* I presume afoot, as there is no mention of vehicular collision in the article.
Further, Nothing in the story indicates the police made an attempt at reasonable conversation, so I cannot accept that as being an indicator that "he was a danger."

To me that's like saying the electrician did the right thing and the electricity did the wrong thing so he died on the job.
The objective is to survive your day at work.
It is unreasonable to die on the job because of tactical error.
Screw that fantasy island utopia la la land crap, if it's me or them it aint gonna be me.

No, you’re comparing apples to harps.
A peace officer is not blamed if a criminal does the wrong thing (so long as the officer does the right thing).
An LEO is justly blamed if he values his own live above the constitutional rights and liberty of a law-abiding citizen.
If your objective is to survive your day at work, you’re in the wrong occupation.

No, that’s logic employed by a conservative.
Where would we be if the Founders believed their survival was their objective?
Where would we be if generations of peace officers and soldiers decided their survival was their objective?

Right where we are, because that's how it is.
Why do you think cops wear vests and carry guns and train their butts off?

Wrong, as you yourself know because you deliberately ignored the first question.
Where would we be if the Founding Fathers decided their survival was their objective?

That has nothing to do with law enforcement. Do you have ADD? Focus.

This is the third recent case of LEOs shooting (and killing) a military serviceman/vet in recent memory.
Let’s hope these are all coincidental, and not foreshadowing of a trend.
