PBS Show 'To The Contrary' 02/17/2012 : “Republicans are coming to take your birth control”
PBS ^ | 02/17/2012 | Bonnie Erbe

Posted on 02/21/2012 10:20:32 AM PST by sickoflibs

On Sunday's show host Bonnie Erbe takes the Obama-care mandate on contraceptives, which is not even in effect yet, and characterizes ANY opposition to it as ‘ debating issues that were decided decades ago.‘ These NEW mandates don’t even go into effect until January 2013 and these libs claim it’s settled decades ago. She also claims that all of the Republican candidates want to overturn the 1965 SCOTUS birth control decision (Griswold v. Connecticut,) and are coming for ‘your’ birth control. While making this new mandate their primary issue of concern they hand wring and complain about how Republicans are not talking about ‘real issues’.

Bonnie has the most evil looking expression as she lies on TV. Watch her look away from the camera knowing she is making stuff up.

Some highlights for what PBS considers informed debate :

Host Bonnie Erbe: “ So with this new political focus on birth control (BC) not abortion? Are Americans in danger of losing access to birth control?

Host Bonnie Erbe: “ Is this a reflection that there are a whole lotta people out there that oppose access to BC, which of course progressives been saying all the time as soon as conservatives ban abortion they will go after birth control, and now we are kind of seeing that coming true but secondly are we entering an era where a lot of people are looking at this and saying :’What is happening? This was decided decades if no eons ago ” ”
(Obama -care was decided decades ago??)

Linda Chavis: “ We are not talking about access to contraception. There is absolute access. We had a SCOTUS decision that stopped the states from banning access to contraception called the Griswold decision decided by the SCOTUS in the 1960s

Erbe :” Which all the Republican candidates for president want to see overturned
(Really ???)

Erin Matson VP of NOW :“ We are not talking about religious freedom in this country. Religious freedom includes freedom to choose one’s own conscience and act accordingly not to have institutions decide for everyone what private health insurance plans might offer
(How about our freedom to not pay for things that you may want for yourself, that we disagree with, or that we can't use ourselves?)

Nicole Kurokawa Neily of the Independent Women’s Forum :” I want this election to be a referendum on social conservative values. I want this to be a referendum on gay marriage, on birth control, on abortion. And I want them to be repudiated in 50 states and then we can move on because there really are serious issues facing this country. We have an unemployment issue, a deficit issue, we have a debt issue and why is no one talking about that? I mean my mind is boggled
(Then why did you libs make this issue the headline debate of this show and the last show? You control this show. Your mind is boggled because you are stupid)

“More evidence of collusion between the sycophant media and the Obama regime. This was a set-up from the get-go.”

Absolutely, and the first guy to get it was none other than Dick Morris. Of course, he knows the liberal playbook. He helped write it.

What is particularly galling is the extent to which the liberal media will simply lie to our faces. Just one bald-faced lie after another. It’s disgusting.

Well, it must be working. I am getting calls from my Republican girl friends asking about why the GOP is against birth control. We are not against birth control. I told them no one is going to take away their right to practice birth control. For heaven’s sakes. How did this get so out of control?

Obama created a big lie. Trying to take down the Catholic Church. I wish nothing but the worst life has to offer him. May what goes around come around to him in spades.

Ask your “Republican girl friends” why on earth they’re paying attention to the DLEMM - Dominant Liberal Establishment Mass Media. They should know better.

What they were paying attn to was the video of Rick Santorum talking about the evils of birth control. He said birth control enables women to have sex for other reasons than they were meant to. The two reasons he gave for women for having sex were their husband’s conjugal rights or for pro creation. I do not know what to say. I am shocked. He has a right to his opinion. For himself and his wife. Not for the rest of us. None of his business. What do you say?

Yes! A lie.

That being said Griswold, much like Roe, is judicial activism at its' worst and a BS decision. It opened the door to Roe with its’ phony argument of ‘an implied’ right to privacy. It is totally fabricate argument that doesn't exist.

If their is a right to privacy, how is the income tax legal? What could be more private than how a person makes a living and what he decides to purchase with that money?

Rick Santorum is just as entitled to his shocking opinion, as you are to be shocked by his opinion.

Santorum has already confirmed he has no intention of grabbing anyone’s contraception.

What more do you need to know?

It’s Play #1 in the totalitarian playbook: “The Big Lie.” Make it simple, and repeat it over and over again, and people will believe it. It’s easy to get away with “the Big Lie” when it’s the only message from the official state propaganda organs and it’s not rebutted.

Oh, there is one other aspect of “the Big Lie,” too; it has to be on something totally unrelated to the real issues of the day, and is there to deflect negative press. For this, “the GOP wants to take away your birth control” is perfect. It has nothing to do with the communist infiltrators bankrupting our country.

I told them no one is going to take away their right to practice birth control. For heaven’s sakes. How did this get so out of control?

That is why I posted this. So what did these women hear and what was their opinion of it?

Dems setup Republicans who were desperate for a win after a year of beatings from Obama by themselves (the Dems) appearing to come out in opposition to Obama on this for 'going against the church'
. The MSM played along too acting as if Obama made a big mistake. This appearance of Obama on the defensive was too inviting for them to resist. Then Obama as planned announces the ‘its free anyway’ ‘compromise’ and on cue the liberal Catholic groups all announce they are satisfied with Obama's 'its free' compromise that Plannned Parenthood loves too leaving Republican holding the BC bag.

Republicans cannot win this by themselves. Can the heads of the US Catholic church actually rally Catholic members, who themselves want the ‘free’ contraception, against this mandate? That is the question. So far not promising.

It isn’t out of control at all.
It is a well planned strategy that we first got a glimpse of at the debate where Stephanopolous threw out the topic to set the stage.

Obama cannot run on his record. All he can do is tear down his opponents and paint them as wackos.

Tell your girlfriends the GOP is not against contraception.
Rick Santorum is personally opposed in his own private life, but has no plans of preventing access for others.

He does, however, have plans for improving the economy so that your girlfriends will be able to afford to pay for their contraception along with alot of other items.

Some of my friends who are exprssing concern are Catholics. Catholics who long used birth control and who are now concerned about their daughters. This is a private concern of theirs. They feel as I do about President Obama interfering with the beliefs of the Catholic Church but are concerned with some of the things Santorum has said about contraception. My daughter has one child. She can never carry another child to term. We are so blessed to have our grandson as now I know we will never have another. But should she re marry, she can never have another child. She will be dependent on birth control unless her husband has a vasectomy.

Chin up FRiend! From here on out it is going to get really really ugly.

Is this contraception issue the last of it? Heck no...they’re just getting warmed up.

We need to stop wringing our hands over the minor problems our guys have and focus (like a laser beam!) on the one gargantuan, humongous, monstrous problem that resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Santorum has said it is his intention to give each state the right to ban contraception on a state’s level. I have told my friends this is not going to happen. No state is going to do this. I thank you for your reply.

RE :” That being said Griswold, much like Roe, is judicial activism at its’ worst and a BS decision. It opened the door to Roe with its’ phony argument of ‘an implied’ right to privacy. It is totally fabricate argument that doesn't exist.

I am well aware of the progression of the so called ‘right to privacy’ by the SCOTUSes over the decades.
Contraceptives(1960s) >Abortion(1970s) >Homosexual Sodomy(2000s) .

That being said the question about this on the ABC debate was a clever trap. The idea was to make the candidates choose between:

1) There is a right to contraceptives via privacy and there-for a right to abortion.
2) There is no right to contraceptives via privacy, and therefor I look like I hate women and like I want to force them to get pregnant because I never left the dark ages

This was a clever trap and Republicans are rarely ready for them.

Of course #2 is something you and I and Scalia understand but trying to explain the difference between a constitional right versus something we actually want to see outlawed, especially when it is so popular to average voters especially women, is clearly impossible in this climate.

Lesson 1: Don't answer got-ya trap questions directly. Better answer:”As POTUS I would veto any attempt to ban BC by the Federal government. Now can we move on to an issue that is relevent this decade?

That is especially important for Santorum to do. Let them distort that!

Excellent suggestion. You should sign on as an advisor to the candidates. Sometimes silence says more than words can ever say. You are right. They fell into the trap and are now doing damage control. And not very successfully.
