Rick Santorum's 'Involuntary Euthanasia' Claim Outrages Dutch
The International Business ^ | February 20, 2012 | MELANIE JONES

Rick Santorum's claim that the Netherlands advocates mass murder through involuntary euthanasia has prompted a furious backlash from the Western European country, with local news sources calling the Republican a "crazy extreme" candidate making up facts to stir up his political base.

"Rick Santorum Thinks He Knows the Netherlands: Murder of the Elderly on a Grand Scale" fumed the headline of the newspaper NRC Handelsblad on Saturday.

The article references an interview, barely played up by the American press, in which Santorum claims that euthanasia makes up "10 percent of all deaths" in the Netherlands," and that many of those people were essentially murdered by the state.

Aren’’t there a lot of Dutch related people in Pennsylvania, where Santorum already lost reelection?

The Pennsylvania Dutch are actually of German descent...that's a misnomer based on the mispronunciation of Pennsylvania "Deutch."

In Holland, you'd see more "outrage" from a 5% tax increase on marijuana or prostution than anything said by Santorum. This article is BS on so many levels.

But if the left wants to play the "morality" game, by all means, let's play and see who wins. Conservatives should not shy away from this. On most moral issues, the conservative position is the majority position, despite the claims of the SRM.

He was asked a question and he answered it.

Since when do candidates have to be restricted to only talking about issues in America?

Issues span the globe now.

Its both amusing and disappointing to see so many here shuffling to the media’s tune. You’d think they’d know better by now.

Santorum is going to stumble because of a foot in his mouth. Choosing to use a foreign country as an example is stupid and a waste of time. There is plenty of crap here to talk about.

“The most conservative of all the candidates in the Republican primary race. He loathes abortion and euthanasia.”

That is the truest sentence I have seen in awhile. I think this is awesome to point this out. They try to make it a negative, but it the most positive and powerful sentence that they could write.

Hope you ain’t talking about me, little dood, because I intend to vote for Santorum if he wins the nomination, but he’s going to need to be a hell of a lot more politically savvy if he actually intends to win in the general.

Maybe Newt would quit talking about Moonbases and kosher food.

At least the Netherlands is somewhat closer than the freaking moon. I mean, there is plenty of crap that needs to be done here on earf, no?

You’ve nailed it.
Rick has made Obamacare and all its support structure the issue.
And, a strong majority doesn’t want it.

Why the hell is he spending time on some of these bullshit issues?

You have been spewing your nonsense for days now. These are not BS issues. These are VERY important issues and obviously you are in the negative thinking this. If we don’t get back to our moral core, we are over. You need to get your head out of the sand and see how important social issues to the majority of Americans. The liberals like yourself want free abortions, gay marriage, and all the nastiness of America. I am thankful that most people don’t think like you.

Because these issues concern me, in this country. OREGON and Terry Shiavo are very very important issues. It would have been easy for him to turn the question to our country and not make it a out of country issue where he is NOT running for president. The very thing we are voting for.

Does he have the courage to talk about these issues concerning THIS COUNTRY when we have states with this very same problems? KILLING INNOCENTS?

Netherlands issues have nothing to do with us and making another country angry makes no sense when he can’t do a thing about them.

And if the media asked a stupid question about another country he should have told them so.
THAT is what is wrong with this country, for goodness sake!
OUR MEDIA! And we need a Conservative President that recognizes that and deals with them accordingly!

The Dutch just don't get it. There should not be any involuntary euthanasias ~ not there ~ not anywhere.

Their government protects and encourages plain old fashioned murder.

Nederland is not a place to visit. You have a heart attack there and you will probably die.

It all depends on how you define euthanasia.

That is, in addition to euthanizing 3,100 adults every year, the Netherlands also has 33,000 abortions a year. In a population of 16.7m.

Their total annual adult death rate is 8.39 deaths/1,000 population. If you figure out how many people that is, then you figure out what percentage of that total is 36,100 from euthanasia and abortion?

I guaran-damn-tee you neither her nor my brother, a republican, will vote for him at this point, because they both view him as a “right wing maniac”,
____________________

“at this point” is your key phrase here. Its February, the election isn’t for almost 9 months.

Santorum has a long time to expound on social and other issues before the ballots are cast.

Personally, I’m more impressed with him already than I was when I voted for him 5 times for Senate and House.
