White House Economic Adviser: 'We Need a Global Minimum Tax'

White House Economic Adviser: 'We Need a Global Minimum Tax' Daniel Halper February 13, 2012 2:41 PM

Gene Sperling, director of the White House's national economic council, said today at an official meeting that "we need a global minimum tax":

“He supports corporate tax reform that would reduce expenditures and loopholes, lower rates for people investing and creating jobs in the U.S., due so further for manufacturing, and that we need to, as we have the Buffett Rule and the individual tax reform, we need a global minimum tax so that people have the assurance that nobody is escaping doing their fair share as part of a race to the bottom or having our tax code actually subsidized and facilitate people moving their funds to tax havens," Sperling said.

The White House adviser then said that more details would be forthcoming, though "not in gory detail."

"But we will say more, perhaps not in gory detail, but in more detail, before the end of the month. And in terms of the revenues, the president is looking for shared sacrifice. This budget is a Democratic budget that has savings in Medicaid, it has savings from new beneficiaries, Medicare in 2017, it has agriculture civilian retirement savings. It has a lot of very tough choices."

Here’s what I think. I think those who have the honor of serving the public should automatically have the honor, nay the privilege of paying the highest tax rate available, regardless of what their income. On every dollar they take in, no matter how it comes to them. That way we know they have lots of skin in the game. That’s what I think. Let’s keep them honest and let’s keep them from thinking very long and hard about class warfare, shall we?

I agree. All state tax, sales tax, payroll tax and any other tax goes away.

There is only a consumption tax of 5% and it never is to be exceeded without 70% of the worlds population voting on it.

All the taxes come into a central account that I will manage and distribute it.

Perhaps we can test the concept on the 47% of Americans that pay NO income tax. We could consider it their “fair share” of the “shared sacrifice”.

...the president is looking for shared sacrifice...

How about a 10% pay cut for all Federal employees?

Better still, a 10% cut off the amount of every single check the Federal Government writes?

Then I'll believe your "shared sacrifice" BS, Zero.

...”we need a global minimum tax”...

Key word there is global.

It is all about money, power, and who will eventually wield both.

Here, used by the Obama administration, it means Global Social Justice. Basically it is Communism all grown-up and combined with the quest for an Islamic Caliphate. The United Nations, dominated by Muslim nations today, will be the vehicle used to grind everyone under.

BHO2 is the movement’s puppet. Leo Gerard, the Canadian communist who heads up the United Steel Workers union, is one of the puppet masters and together are the driving force behind this group as it stands now.

U.S. Conservatives must elect the the right champion for the American people in this forthcoming election or face certain extinction.

Better yet, how about a repeal of the 16th amendment?

"the president is looking for shared sacrifice."

"Just listen to any prophet and if you hear him speak of sacrifice run. Run faster than from a plague. It stands to reason that where theres sacrifice, theres someone collecting sacrificial offerings. Where theres service, theres someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master. But if you ever hear a man telling you that you must be happy, that its your natural right, that your first duty is to yourself that will be the man who has nothing to gain from you. But let him come and youll scream your empty heads off, howling that hes a selfish monster. So the racket is safe for many, many centuries." - Ayn Rand

The US is one of the few countries in the world that taxes its citizens based on worldwide income - regardless of whether they are living here or abroad. US citizenship has become the most expensive “passport” you can own.

For this reason, each year brings a higher number of Americans who willingly relinquish their citizenship. Last year, it was the highest on record. The world’s poor and huddled masses want to become Americans. More Americans with capital understand that they have become cows to be milked, sued, abused and fleeced.

The current administration is comprised of liberal/socialist/marxist fools, who have no economic experience in the real world and their solution to everything is to raise taxes and entrap average Americans in government dependency.

The longer this goes on, the greater the likelihood that we will not recover. I fear the world’s economic development and flow of funds is already moving around us and Asia is on the ascendancy, as we sink into European socialism.

If I were starting a business today, it would be somewhere else, where there is opportunity and where they welcome capital with open arms. Singapore comes to mind.

Do not miss that they are hollowing out the value of our money, making business too expensive to risk operating here, and taxation too high to make that risk worthwhile. It is both parties. It is sad to watch.

Anyone in Congress (both houses) who has assets of more than a million dollars receives NO pay whatsoever for being members of Congress. The POTUS, if assets exceed a million dollars, receives NO pay whatsoever. Pay for those who earn less than one million a year will be severely less than what they currently receive, depending upon their income.

Speaking of people paying NO income tax....

I love my daughter, dearly I do. But she and her husband pay no federal taxes as they do not make enough money. Oh they get money okay but that’s all I’ll say. Bottom line, with a child and work so difficult to obtain, they probably SHOULD not be paying income taxes as they don’t make that much.

Still....I ask her if anyone paid for her birth control pills and she told me she didn’t pay for them. This surprised me as ...well she had an operation to keep from getting pregnant and it’d been a long time since an unwanted pregnancy was something of her concern. But she swore she didn’t pay a co-pay for the small amount of time she took BC pills.

With my doubt that she might be mistaken about that, I then asked her if insurance companies, via the premiums of folks like us, should pay for Viagra. She verbally shrugged and said yeah, sometimes people need Viagra. I honed in and said well should insurance companies pay for Viagra so that the man will be ready when the moment occurs?

She said that yes, she didn’t care, she didn’t pay for her health insurance (she gets medicaid of some kind at various times) so sure, they should pay for it. I ask her would she feel that way if she had to pay MORE taxes for it. She then got emphatic and said NO WAY.

I told her how easy to give away SOMEONE ELSE’S MONEY! she kind of laffed and that was that.

Now daughter is more conservative than you might think, raising a daughter and complaining about an out-of-control society that has putting blindfolds on the kid. She and her husband greatly dislike Obama and love Sarah Palin.

But a family of three bringing in about $20,000 a year isn’t affected by taxes and such so there’s a whole different attitude when, like I say, IT’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S MONEY THEY’RE GIVING AWAY!

Seems to me that if they tax corporations at a 90% rate world-wide that ought to be just about what they need to fuel their dreams and schemes.

I bet the occupy folks would get on board with that. I wonder if Buffett, Gates, and Joe&Mary Doe would?
