GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.—Local Republican activists Debbie Brown and Lynne Cottrell share a similar story. After backing other Republican presidential candidates over the past several months, they have now swung over to Mitt Romney.
Their rationale, on the eve of the Colorado caucuses, may bode well for the former Massachusetts governor, not just now, but also if he faces off in a general election against President Barack Obama.
It boils down to this: Mr. Romney's mildness, seen as a demerit by many conservatives, is a plus for him in swing areas such as voter-rich Arapahoe County, a bellwether for this key electoral state and a place where women dominate the electoral rolls.
"I have come to see him as disciplined and competent. And unlike many of the others, he doesn't carry any baggage," said Ms. Brown, a Republican campaign strategist who works from her home in the suburbs of Denver and once backed Herman Cain, among others.

The original query referred to Mormonism and the FLDS are indeed part of Mormonism. In fact, they practice the faith just as it was originally proclaimed by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young ... unlike their Salt Lake City cousins.

A mormon woman is completely dependent upon her husband for eternal exaltation. Her “chance” to dwell in the celestial (highest degree or heaven) kingdom.
Thus, they are placed into a position of doing whatever is necessary to please their husband in order to ensure they get their secret name called.
If the husband treats his wife poorly and she’s considering divorce, she’ll be admonished by priesthood authorities that it is her responsibility to submit to him. Her salvation depends on it.
If she persists, she will either be disfellowshipped or excommunicated, thus guaranteeing her a seat with us apostates. Thus, the high degree of depression within mormon circles. The women have no way out in their mind, so they medicate.
It’s all carefully woven together and unless you’ve lived it, it’s difficult to comprehend just how the mormon church “enslaves” its women.

Well, your post reminds me of the comparison of two men who share the same top three values: Family, work, health.
However, one prioritizes them health, work, family, while the other prioritizes them family, work, health. The differences between these two men’s lives would be huge.
IOW, saying women are encouraged to have children and careers is basically saying thay are not quite like the teaching of Islam, but similar.
Mormonism is pretty clear about where women fit in. It is why it is polygamous. The idea is that a man becomes the God of a planet, just as Jesus has for this one (and his “father” before him) and then he has multiple wives with whom the man has “spiritual sex” to create billions of spirit babies which then occupy the human babies actually born on the world.
That is at the 30,000 foot level, but you get the gist.
It maybe abstract to you.

It is extremely important to lds to never ever let the outside world know how they feel about anything. They must present a "perfect" shell to the outside or they might sully the lds church.
Most women...not those informed like many here...have historically voted based somewhat on either looks or a grandfatherly demeanor or sometimes both...Reagan and Bush I could claim that ...handsome and yet warm and secure made women feel comfortable

The flds have continued Joseph Smith’s teachings an the SLC lds have stayed away to form an off shoot.
Anecdotes are hard to compare. There could be depression among the women in LDS but the numbers are going to be hard to compare. For one thing they probably have different standards of diagnosis and treatment.
It's hardly a unique phenomenon. The LDS women may be in a more organized form than most, but like ad hoc psychological abuse cases, there are opportunities to leave. When they arrive at this forum they get lots of support, don't you agree?
