• With apologies to Robert Michum.

Now let me tell a story, I’ll tell it from the top
About a mountain boy that ran illegal soda pop
Coca Cola made the tonic and Junior drove the load
And when his engine roared they called the highway Thunder Road

Sometimes into Worcester Sometimes Old Beantown
The revenuers chased him but they couldn’t run him down
Just when they thought they had him their Prius would explode
And he’d cruise by while they were standing still on Thunder Road

And there was thunder thunder on that Thunder Road
Thunder was his engine Jolt Cola was his load
There was Pepsi Pepsi to quench the devil’s thirst
The people swore they had rights but the Gub’ment took them first
[ guitar ]

Blazin’ right through Sturbridge on down the ol’ Mass Pike
It was just outside of Auburn where they made that fatal strike
They taxed him to death at ninety that’s all there is to tell
The devil sent the Marxists and they took us straight to hell
