CAN ROMNEY BE STOPPED? HISTORY SAYS YES!
Wallbuilders ^ | 2-1-12 | Rick Green

Posted on 02/01/2012 2:20:44 PM PST by Anti-Hillary

Romney has won only two of the four contests thus far…we have 46 states to go. Why do so many pundits believe that makes him the inevitable nominee?

Let’s take a look at the most similar republican primary of the last 50 years…1976 between Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.

The biggest difference in 1976 was that Ford was an incumbent president being challenged in his own party by a B-list actor turned Governor. It should have been a landslide for Ford and for the first few months, it was.

Reagan lost EIGHT of the first nine contests, some of them 94% to 5% and 83% to 15%. The pundits said it was over, he should get out and support the “inevitable” nominee.

Then came Texas!

Reagan creamed Ford in Texas on May 1 and then went on to win more than half of the remaining contests and came within just a handful of votes at the convention of defeating the incumbent president.

*side note* When Reagan spoke after Ford’s victory speech, everyone in the arena knew they had chosen the wrong man and came back in 1980 to get it right!

The point is that this race is far from over and Romney CAN still be stopped. We have 46 states to go and Romney only has 5% of the delegates he needs to win.

And here is the fun part for me…Texas sits poised to be right about the same time in this contest as it was in 1976. About half the delegates will be chosen by the time this battle gets to Texas on April 3rd. I predict Romney will be in the lead, but not near enough to come anywhere close to winning. In fact, it will not be far from a tie and Texas can be the one to start a huge shift AWAY from Romney.

The major differences between 1976 and 2012 are entirely in the favor of conservatives.

1. Romney is NOT an incumbent president and 75% of the republican voters have never been convinced he is the guy to support.

2. There was no Tea Party, no conservative uprising in 1976. There is an army of citizens ready to take action to save our nation and we know that Romney is not a Ronald Reagan no matter how much he tries to sound like him in the debates.

3. Back in 1976, the big three Networks and major newspapers controlled the flow of information to voters. Today we have Facebook, Twitter, cable news, youtube, and all the alternative media. The people have just as much, if not more, power than the machine.

So, what will it take to stop Romney?

1. Conservatives have to suck it up and realize that our dream candidate is not in the race. There are only two viable options…Romney or Newt. Our only chance of getting anyone other than those two is for everyone to get behind Newt and force this thing to the convention where a Huckabee type candidate could be nominated just as James Garfield did on the 36th ballot in 1880. The more likely scenario is that Newt just flat out beats Romney and becomes our nominee and then president. This is a scenario I’m perfectly comfortable with and other conservatives should also become comfortable with it unless they want Romney as the nominee and Obama as the president.

2. Santorum has to get out of the race and support Newt. His 10% to 13% would almost all go to Newt and be enough for Newt to sweep the South, as well as dominate on Super Tuesday.

3. Liberty loving, Christian conservatives who want limited government and are currently supporting Ron Paul must become more strategic with their votes. He cannot and will not be the nominee. You have got to ask yourself whether you want Obama to have four more years, Romney to possibly win and be surrounded by moderates, or Newt to win and be surrounding by wise counsel like David Barton, Mat Staver, Don Wildmon, Jim Garlow, and other Christian leaders. THINK and be strategic! The 5% of Ron Paul’s 9% that is made up of the “legalize drugs” crowd is not ever going to vote for someone else, but the other 4% made up of smart conservatives can make the difference in this race if they are strategic.

Romney can be stopped.

Obama can be defeated.

It’s up to us.

February will be very, very hard.
One debate.
States with heavy Mormon populations.
States where his Father was Governor, (Michigan).
It will be very difficult for Santorum or for Newt.

Looks like the Wallbuilder folks are behind Newt. If all of us here were intellectually honest, we would love a candidate with the fire and credentials of Newt, but without all the personal baggage, that is like a repellent to many female voters. I have gotten over it, but it took me awhile, I must admit.

NOT a chance.

Mr. Vanity Run has no intention of dropping out. In fact, he's running attack ads in Nevada and Colorado against Gingrich, NOT the front runner Romney!

WHY IS THAT?

When I said “defeating Hillary”, I was not being sarcastic. Look at Obama’s recent poll numbers. We have more to worry about than beating him at this point in time.

Whether the Paulites or the Santorumites know or not, believe it or not, want it to be or not, this much is sure. At this point they are allies of Mitt the Minimal. The article is basically right. Armies that go into battle uncoordinated and without means of communication between them lose.

In this case, if Gingrich -however flawed he may be - loses, conservatives lose. And if Mitt faces Obama’s army of Orcs he will lose, and we will lose. However, inept, effete, and out-of-touch John Kerry was, Mitt is more so. He doesn’t know how to speak to ordinary people. He doesn’t know how to speak to conservatives. The reason? Simple. He isn’t a conservative, and ordinary people are not on his radar, only their votes are.

Mitt and the GOP elite, whether consciously or not, are out to create a rival plantation of slightly duller sheen to the Dem’s plantation. But they are amateurs at plantation building. The Dems have been doing it for a couple of centuries.

Don't forget that Newt isn't on the ballot in the Virginia primary in March, and write-ins aren't allowed. The only way to stop Romney there is to throw our "support" behind Paul.

Newt can still win, but he will need us to consolidate our support behind him now.

Just don't understand why Republicans "buy" the idea that Romney is "electable" as an opponent to Obama.

Rush's advice to "focus on Obama" today, is one thing, but if America is to be brought back from the brink of disaster, then "We, the People" must have a standard by which to measure both him and the opponent we allow to represent us in November.

That standard is the Constitution of the United States.

By the Founders' formula, "the People's" written Constitution was the anchor of our liberties, binding government to the "People's" limitations on its power.

Obama's philosophy, in effect, undoes all the monumental work accomplished by the Founders on behalf of liberty and leaves the law afloat and without anchor, relying, as of old, on mere men and women.

From Page xv of "Our Ageless Constitution," allow me to include here excerpted words from President Andrew Jackson's Proclamation of December 10, 1832:

"We have received it [the Constitution] as the work of the assembled wisdom of the nation. We have trusted to it as to the sheet anchor of our safety in the stormy times of conflict with a foreign or domestic foe. We have looked to it with sacred awe as the palladium of our liberties, and with all the solemnities of religion have pledged to each other our lives and fortunes here and our hopes of happiness hereafter in its defense and support. Were we mistaken, my countrymen, in attaching this importance to the Constitution . . .? No. We were not mistaken. The letter of this great instrument is free from this radical fault. . . . No, we did not err! . . . The sages . . . have given us a practical and, as they hoped, a permanent* Constitutional compact. . . . The Constitution is still the object of our reverence, the bond of our Union, our defense in danger, the source of our prosperity in peace: it shall descend, as we have received it, uncorrupted by sophistical construction, to our posterity. . . ."

*Underlining added for emphasis

And, it was Thomas Jefferson who used another metaphor with reference to the Constitution when he indicated that "the People" must "bind them (government) by the chains of the Constitution." In another instance, he declared: "It was intended to lace them up straitly within the enumerated powers. . . ."

The Fall opponent must understand and be able to contrast and explain the foundations of the competing ideas of 2012, pointing out how Obama's ideas depart from those that made America a place of freedom and opportunity. If that opportunity is missed, then liberty, as Americans have known it for over 200 years, may be lost to another and counterfeit set of ideas.

In our focus on "Obama," we must be careful not to choose another carefully-selected candidate who meets the "good ole' boy" Washington Establishment criteria of either Party.

Rather, through the process, we must select a "People's" Constitutional advocate who has immersed himself in a study of the history of civilization and of America's unique ideas. Such a candidate was Reagan. He had studied the Founders ideas of liberty enough to be able to examine issues by the light of the Constitutional principle involved.

"Focusing on Obama," to be useful and worthwhile, must put him under the light of the Constitution's protections for liberty.

So, too, must the candidate who will face him in Fall 2012 be measured by his understanding of, his proven track record of working to conserve, and ability to articulate the underlying ideas of the Constitution. Simply being a beneficiary of "the Blessings of Liberty" is not enough!

Romney has yet to make it to 50% in any significant primary.

He's a loser ~ he can't attract the party base.

Sure, maybe he can get Miami-Dade, but if you pull the Cubans out of the picture he's not far off Newt's mark.

So, where else in America will Mitt find another heavily Cuban community?

Who gives a crap if you weak-kneed, easily defeated whiners stay in the GOP? Go. Get out and take the other fragile prom queens with you. The party is for people who actually care. Not for people who won't vote if their nominee isn't on the ballot.

Thats not what the Left does. They take every defeat and come right back. They support their politicians NO MATTER WHAT because they want to win and they can count on "conservatives" to fold up, splinter off and stay home if they don't win every battle.

It takes conservatives, Tea Party Patriots, "elites", country clubbers, RINOs and everyone else who wants to help and NO GROUP can do it by themselves.

So, GO! And don't come back till you can take disappointment without clutching your pearls and fainting.

Accoriding to FOSK Priebus says before April 1 NO STATE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY can award delegates on any basis but proportionate to the vote.

What that means is:

(1) Priebus and his backers just dumped on Romney big time. That was not in the plan when they put Priebus in as RNC Chairman.

(2) That'd give Romney only 25 delegates, no the 50 he thought he had, or the 100 that'd been available if Florida had adhered to the RNC standards for when they could hold a primary.

That's a HUGH and SERIES blow! Somebody done stuned his beeber Fur Shur.

Hear Hear. Reagan did almost beat Ford in 1976. Then Ford lost to Obama’s predecessor; Jimmy C.

Florida is a state where many independents are geezers. Geezers like safety, steadiness, and attract to Romney as if he were Lawrence Welk. They don't realize the implications of a RINO continuation of Democratic policy. Heck, they'll be dead before the crisis.

Let us see what some other states think.

We need to convince our women friends and families that we are not selecting some one to marry to, but someone who is a fighter who can defeat obama and win the argument of where we want to be - socialist wealth-redistributing country, or the Republic that the founders created for America.

Tell them the little known fact that Gingrich’s first wife was his high school teacher who preyed on a young man, and he was probably scarred for life. It might not excuse him for his indiscretion long time ago, but he has settled down into a happy marriage and has repented and is forgiven by his church. Why can’t people forgive him?
Hey, Romney is from men who have many wives, obozo is bi, Clinton seduced a young woman while being president. Who is perfect?

We must help to dispell those so-called old ‘baggage’. Look at the man now! At least we know everything about Gingrich. What do we know about obama? Nothing! What do we know about Romney except that he is an opportunist who lies and flip-flops.
The left gives million free passes to obama, but we cannot forgive a young man for his decade old ‘sins’?

That’s right. Message to all three, build a coalition. Build a conservative coalition. The logical leader among the three is Newt, but each of the others has something valuable to contribute ... something that many people really want and really care about. Decide among yourselves who will get to do what should your coalition win. But first, agree on the principles and policies as closely as you can, and then burn the GOP elites’ house down. You will have more support than you can imagine from Republican grass roots, from independents who know how fiscally irresponsible both parties have been, and even from some democrats who see that their party has been hijacked by leftist radicals.

You can win.

Ronald Reagan used to say, “You can get a lot done if you don’t care who gets the credit.” Newt, Rick, Ron, get it done. And don’t worry about Mitt. He has enough socked away to live comfortably.

Yes, this is a CONSERVATIVE activist site. Not a site where people pull up their skirts and run away when elections or NOMINATIONS don't go their way.

McCain was who he was, but he wouldn't have signed the healthcare bill or ANY of the Democrat abortion legislation. He wouldn't have signed Dodd/Frank. He wouldn't have drawn down our troops or cut the budget for the Defense dept. and he wouldn't done 97% of what Barak Hussein Obama has done to this country.

And even though McCain gave us Sarah Palin, let's never give him credit for ANYTHING or do anything but trash the extraordinary Bob Dole. You never met a man who could hold his jock strap, but that doesn't stop you and the other pathetic malcontents on this site from trashing him. You're repulsive. And no conservative if you blame his loss on anything but the lying, cheating tactics of the Clinton team. As if anyone would have won with Carville, Begala, Stephanopolous and their war room willing to do anything to elect Bill Clinton.

So don't threaten...GO! Leave the party. We don't need you. Really.

IMHO, Romney is being set up like a Little League T-Ball for Obama to whack outta the park in Nov.

Not only does Romney’s “coronation” get rid of the Tea Party and “conservatives” for Rove and his RINO Country Club Status Quo bunch, it helps the dems keep the continuity of their “schtick”.

Obama and Romney are IDENTICAL politically, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the VERY important decision on permanently totally repealing Obamacare.

Obama can counter every political Romney arguement with “I know YOU are, but what am I” and clobber him over the head HARD with the 99% crap that he’s a 1%’er.

Geeee....that only leaves ONE “itty - bitty” difference.

Wanna guess what THAT is??????

Try “skin pigmentation”.

It worked for Obama BIG TIME in 2008. Romney is the ONLY candidate they can REALLY use it on because they are identical in almost every other way.

Romney WON'T attack Obama like he has Newt, because they will pin the "racist" tag on him so fast that his head will spin faster that his political flip-flops.

So Myth will "play nice" with Obama, he'll try to get everyone to sing "America The Beautiful" ( the fake crap he semms to be doing at ALL his Florida stops) and get KILLED in Nov, as is the GOP-e"plan" (see pic above), except Romney AND Rick don't seem to see it......YET.

Lil' Ricky WILL be "handed" the VP slot to "shut up" the "Santorum" and Tea Party "Conservative" people and with Romney's defeat, ensure Lil' Ricky won't be a problem to Rove and the GOP-E EVER AGAIN. With the Tea Party out of the way of BOTH parties for 2012 and 2016, Romney out of the way for 2012 AND 2016, the dems TOTALLY despised after 8 years of Obama, Rove and “the boys” can run Jeb for 2016 with NOBODY in their way.

OBTW, The pic below was taken last Friday afternoon Jan27th, 2012 , the day after "Bloody-Up Newt" Thursday by every RINO Country Clubber in this particular corner of the universe.

Jeb & George HW Bush & Obama Jan.27, 2012
Now, Obama has been in office for what, say 3 years?

How many photos of those three together have YOU seen??

Pretty much ALL the polls earier in the week had Newt leading in Florida, until the "suddenly" orchestrated RINO Newt attack which culminated Thursday before the debate, and THEN on Friday, I see THIS photo??

What in the heck could the three of them "constructively" have important enough in common to "get together" and talk about??

Maybe Barry just wanted ask them over to find out how "W" was doin', you know, the son and brother of the two guys in the pic who he STILL TO THIS MINUTE blames EVERYTHING bad that has happened to date in his administration on and two years before he replaced him in office???

Yeah, that's the ticket.

I have an idea, and I mentioned it in the post above the pic..

Newt and Sarah have been TRYING to warn the Tea Party and Conservatives about this BIG TIME!!

(Sorry, but my Reynolds Wrap cap dang near fell off when I saw the pic.) THIS is why people are upset with Lil' Ricky.

Either he is TOTALLY IGNORANT, or he's "in on the deal".

There is NO in between.

John McCain and Bob Dole may have been great men in their private lives, but that's not what we're talking about. As politicians, they both really suck, and are as responsible for the dilapidated state of our broken country as the democrats. They should both be run out of D.C. for not doing something before it got this bad. As candidates, they were not chosen by the voters, they were both picked by the GOP=e simply to take their turn, not because they were the one's with good ideas and solutions.

Preface to my following statement; I am a Newt supporter, but am intellectually honest at all times...

You know you SUCK as a candidate when hard core, hard right social conservatives prefer a thrice married adulterer.

(BTW, as a believer, I believe in repentance and redemption and see that if David and Paul, for example, are good enough for God, then Newt is good enough too)

I’m supporting Newt - but only Romney and Paul are on the primary ballot in Virginia.

So enjoy your insults - but learn to direct them where they belong.

Way back in the good old days (when my ancestors were finally safe, well fed, and well armed in Brittany) the bad boys who were inventing English were generally of 2 thoughts about how to say words. For instance, there were the Danes, and they said TASK while the Saxons said TAX, or vice versa.

This has continued down to modern times and there's a large hunk of Virginia where no one says ASK, they say AKS.

So, logically following, and out of sheer cantankerousness, you can say FOX or FOSK ~ all same thing GI!
