Newt Gingrich loses Florida — and reminds us why (Washington COMpost hit piece alert)
The COMPost ^ | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 01/31/2012 10:41:33 PM PST by GR_Jr.

Newt Gingrich gave his post-primary speech tonight while gracelessly declining to congratulate the man who beat him by double digits. According to the Romney campaign, Gingrich hadn’t called to congratulate the Florida winner as of 9:30 p.m. ET.

The speech was vintage Gingrich, comparing his predicament to Lincoln at Gettysburg and vowing to conduct a “people’s campaign.” He made one small run at Romney, calling him “the Massachusetts moderate,” and then wandered into a rather trite recitation of his commitment to change. He rambled a bit, getting nostalgic about his Contract with America and assuring us he’d been studying “how to do this” since 1958. (He was running for president as a child?) He is going to get rid of White House czars, move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and halt the war on religion. If there was a theme in there, it was hard to spot.

He obnoxiously ended by pledging: “My life, my fortune, my sacred honor.” But he’s not doing any of that. And it’s quite an insult to American patriots who have said that and meant it.

Gingrich has been reduced to a smaller-than-life figure. He’s a guy with a lot of words and very little appeal, whose meanness got the best of him and helped to wreck his campaign on a heap of attacks, insults and downright vile accusations (the latest being his claim that Romney is hostile to religion).

He might go on, as he promised. But, really, how many Republicans will follow him? Fewer and fewer, I suspect.

The people on Fox News are saying they are surprised that Newt didn’t congratulate Romney. It has never happened before that the “loser” didn’t congratulate the winner. Newts daughter said well Dad is not conventional. lol.

Oh please..Newt it to call and congratulate the guy who spent untold millions bashing him? When this was going on to Herman Cain, I did not think any of the GOP wannabe guys were behind his assassination of his character but now I would not be one bit surprised if Romney was behind it..Romney is vicious but when it comes to the Dear Leader I bet he backs down during debates just as he did when Newt took him on during a debate when he Mittens mentioned something about Newt’s involvement with Fannie and Freddie and was interrupted by Newt who went on to say that as a private citizen he has the first amendment right to speak to anyone who asks his opinion ( words to that effect) and Rommey stood there and agreed with him.

Don’t give up. 46 states to go (or is it 53?). 1000+ delegates up for grabs. Don’t get discouraged by the naysayers. Don’t turn on our own.

I don’t know why Newt would take the time to congratulate Mitt, when by doing so would give the impression that he’s conceding.

The lieing MSM gave us a Marxist and now it is giving us a classless liberal who will shove Romneycare upon all 50 states with the help of traitor Pam Bondi. The chiding, classless Romney does not deserve a pat on the back for his 17 million dollar win as a result of the shamelsss character assassination of Gingrich.

Man, let's circle the firing squad and kill off folks who differ on a few points here on FR...

Newt will never get my vote because he will always come across as bitter, vindictive and petty. Those like that are pathetic leaders.

I'm a Tea Party conservative who sees Mitt for what he is: a former governor of a liberal state who's a MORMON! They don't get more conservative in their souls than Mormons. I can take Newt as an idealogue: sure. As my president: no.

Newt has no class at all. He's in some pretty bad company in that regard in my mind: Carter, Obama... Even the hated compassionate conservative GWB has some class

Newt has no class: I don’t think someone like that can win over those who don’t eat politics for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If that means you hate America (because Americans want their presidents to sound like they like their country, other Americans and life in general) and won’t vote, then that’s a damned shame. Romney is our best shot to get rid of Obama this time around

After what Mitt did to him—Newt should do all in his power to stop Mittens and his power grab. He should never shake his hand or look that man in the eye. He has proven himself to be a dedicated foe—with but one goal—Win at all costs.

Mitt is a lying vile, evil utterly corrupt fraud. Everything about him is a lie.

Mitt has a power-lust equal to Obama's. Nothing in Mitts career hints of limited government or Conservative principles.

Mitt worships at the alter of State Power. Mitt lusts for the Presidency not to do good, but to satisfy his corrupt ego.

Mitt has absolutely no belief in limited government or respect for our beloved Constitution.

Nothing will change if Mitt's elected. He will just be a placeholder until the next Marxist takes power.

Obama has one thing over mitt -- Obmama is honest enough to never pretend to run as a Conservative.

Nothing on this Earth would ever get me to vote for Mitt.

I am confident that Americans will see through Mitt's lies. FL will likely be the peak for Mitt and the GOP-e.

Mitt's scorched Earth policy in FL was nothing but bitterness, vindictiveness and pettiness.

Mitt and his evil minions have been full bore on destroying Conservatives since 08.

Mitt is a bigger fraud than Obama. If Mitt was honest he would run as a RAT, the party of his soul.

Even though it will not happen, if Mitt did win the nomination then it would be a pleasure to see Mitt lose in a 44 State landslide to Obama. There would be a bit of joy watching him get humiliated.

Please, put out a list for our perusal. Please.

"Romney is our best shot to get rid of Obama this time around" Romney is a lying, Saul Alinsky crapweasel. He's not a conservative, but neither is he a moderate or a liberal. The sad truth of the man is that he has no political ideology, and he has no core. He will do or say anything to get the political power he covets so badly.

This is what makes him no better than Obama and the reason why I will never, ever vote for him. If he can't be stopped from buying the GOP nomination, I will look for a 3rd party candidate to vote for. If I find no 3rd party candidate I can vote for, I'll write in Newt since I'm currently supporting him. But if Gingrich ever graciously endorses Romney, then I will write in Sarah Palin's name on my ballot.

This is all-out war, and Romney and the GOP establishment essentially declared it on the grassroots. They will live to sorely regret it. They are literally destroying what is left of the GOP with their "my way or the highway" arrogance. Screw them.

There will be no substantive difference between Romney and Obama. USSC justices you say? Romney would nominate more Souter’s, Roll back Obamacare?. No he will just try to ‘fix’ it.....Entitlement reform? Not that I have heard of. Protect Gun rights......NO. Oppose Abortion of Fetal Stem Cell research....NO. Tax reform.....no flat tax from Mittens.

No diff Romney or Obama, other than when Romney fails the rats will blame his ‘conservative’ policies, NO THANKS.

The establishment has been stabbing the Tea Party in the back see the Senate races in De and Nv, and what has happened to A West in the redistricting.

I will vote for my congressman Garrett, but I will not vote for Mittens. I am a conservative not an establishment pubbie.

Can't help but notice a logical flaw in many of the comments here...

Romney went very negative, and Romney spent a lot of money.

Newt lost.

Obama will go even more negative, Obama will spend even more money, and the MSM will have Obama’s back at every turn.

Yet, Newt would win against Obama?

I don't get it.

I'll cross over and give you the first Battle of Mantissas - the Yanks call it Bull run. It ended with the Union army routed and running away from the battlefield. I'm sure there was a 19th century Harry Reid who opined "The war is lost."

Mormonism doesn't have much to do with it. It's true that most religious settlers in Utah are conservative, but that's true across religions. Mitt is a liberal, plain and simple.

The way I see it, posting Jennifer Rubin articles is fine because we all know how loathsome she and the other MSM toadies are, but the poster at least should get the ball rolling by dissecting some of the lies and frauds in the piece.
