One week ago, Mitt Romney amassed a record 23-point lead in Gallup tracking polls. But in the latest poll released Monday, the former Massachusetts governor’s advantage has evaporated to a single percentage point among Republican-leaning registered voters. Romney now stands at 29 percent to Gingrich’s 28 percent.

As a former Speaker of the House during historic change, Gingrich has a gravitas and national recognition that puts him above the other candidates. He also has high negatives and he has to appear very stable to chase away people’s doubts. Luckily for him, that usually is highlighted in the debates, where he can shine.

Face it—Newt is the Anti-Romney. Unless he says something stupid he might have a real shot at the GOP presidential nod.
Lets see how he does in the next two debates—The Liberal MSM will be gunning for him and have a bunch of questions for him—try to give him little face time—mostly will focus on Santorum and Paul -—Ignore the crazy fat man and hope he goes away—that or ask him such pointed questions they can be used to tear him down—Its up to Newt! Another standing O anbd he will win Florida.

I was having lunch today with our D.C. lobbyist (four of us) and he asked the group is Newt to conservative to draw in the 20% of independents. I looked him straight in the eye and told him this conversation took place in 1979. He looked at me and shook his head.....check mate.
