Excellent post on "paragons of virtue." My favorite line:

"But observable morals and real virtue are not quite the same thing, connected to be sure, but not the same thing."

FYI, if we nominate Newt, we can never talk about family values or the sanctity of marriage again.

Right, so we better elect Paul or Romney instead.

Don't be a drama queen. We need some fixin to this country so family values and the sanctity of marriage has a place to even live!!! Right now, I dare say those two bullet points are low on the totem pole.

With a little luck from the weather, and if this trend holds, Newt should win tonight.

I was able to reverse-engineer the PPP individual daily numbers from what PPP published, and these matched the ARG trend.

I didn't include the Clemson poll because they included too many undecided voters too close to the election, but I was able to normalize Clemson by a common correction factor and then their results DID fit this curve nicely as well.

Thankfully, Santorum may not be a spoiler and force this winner-take-all contest to flip to Romney!!!

And THANK YOU Sarah Palin, Governor Perry, and Jim Robinson for adding your support this week to Newt's momentum!

Onyx, Satin Doll has posted several answers to frequently expounded anti-Newt freepers’ comments that we often see on other threads.
Thought maybe others would like to see them.

I appreciate the information on the first marriage. It was a situation I had suspected, but I didn't have the facts handy. Looks like today wife number one would be in jail. Satin Doll, the FBI report of Mariann said she was "mentally unstable". Is there a possibility that Newt did not press the divorce, stayed separated for those six years so that she could get the mental help she needed?

Ok... let me get this straight...This is your prediction...

Newt 40% (Are you sure?!!!!!!!)
Romney 27%
Santorum 17%
Paul 16%

You’re going out on a limb... way out there. DIck Morris says Romney is going to win. You say Newt is going to win, and it won’t be close.

He’s absolutely correct. I’ve been saying for almost 24 hours now that Newt would beat Mitt 40/30 with the also-rans splitting the rest.

It’s going to happen. The fun part is going to be watching Florida for the next week or so.

Rebellion is brewing!!

We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years.

The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters.

The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.

You’ve nailed it.
What all these literal-minded , can’t-analyze-their-way-out-of -a-paper-bag types like O’Reilly apparently can’t figure out is that Newt’s complaining second wife, Marianne (is that her name?), will remind most women not of themselves, but of the former wives of the men they are now happily married to. Amazing the lack of imagination from any talking head who thinks he’s saying something by coming up with this “women hate Newt” meme.

Hello, Hoosiermama! Haven’t spoke with you in a while.

I really do not have any insider details about Marianne or her mental problems. But they were married for 18 years so it isn’t exactly as though he cut and run after a few months.

It looks great!

Unfortunately, Santorum has committed to sticking around until Florida, but if he polls under 10% in SC, he probably won’t be a factor afterwards.

Most Excellent! Praying Romney repeats his results of 2008, when he did not win any southern state!

“Newt will get the nomination and perhaps the presidency...but will it already be too late to do any good before our land plunges into fiscal chaos and perhaps civil war?”\

He can probably do a lot to slow down the trend on the social/police state front. Fiscal front, I think the US is at the point of no return, but it may impact how fedgov behaves when the dollar begins to tank. He can also possibly appoint some supreme court justices. He could potentially do a LOT to stop DHS’s apparent mission to be the internal security force vs. citizens in its tracks, though I don’t know if he will take that on.

The US is pretty close to the point where someone makes a power play that cannot be returned to position normal, though. Think Marius/Sulla, and be terrified.

We took the kids in July of 2008, over the 4th to boot for 10 days, it was GREAT. They were 11 & 14 at the time . . . figured we better go before it was invaded by the Dem’s. Fun family time! Won’t go back until the GOP re-takes the White House and hopefully the Senate too. Both kids preferred to go as a “family” trip vs. a 4 day whirlwind school trips with their middle school for way too much money for what they’d have seen vs. our family version.

By the way . . . the then 14 yr. old just turned 18 two weeks ago today and will be casting her first vote in the primary come March. One more vote for “our team”.
