WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich both pleaded with conservatives on Sunday to unite behind their candidacies in a last-ditch effort to stop Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination.
Mr. Santorum said the Republican contest needed to quickly narrow to a two-person race between Mr. Romney and someone else, but he declined to explicitly call on the other candidates to drop out.
“I’m not going to tell anybody to get in or out of a race; I think that’s their decision to make,” Mr. Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. But he added, “We need to get this eventually down to a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney.”
Mr. Santorum said the vote of support for his candidacy by Christian conservative leaders on Saturday in Texas should persuade Republicans in South Carolina that he deserves to be that alternative.

Perry is done and needs to drop out tomorrow and we then can stop the establishment from getting their guy.

I regard the environmental philosophy of "preserving nature," in other words, NO PEOPLE, as espoused by our universities and adopted by Mr. Gingrich, is perhaps the most destructive idea in human history. What was once a continent managed intensively by people for thousands of years is to be abandoned to "nature" out of the wishful thinking that so many exotic introductions won't destroy native biodiversity, all evidence to the contrary.
Which is why I've written two books on the topic.
So, if you think for one minute I'll accept a lame hand-wave like that from you, well, you can forget that idea.
We know Newt can lead; and that he can debate; and hold his own with world Leadership. We know his vision for America.
No we don't know his vision, because he is an opportunist who will turn on a dime. Oh but he'll have a great explanation!
Good Grief; Reagan was not perfect; nor a saint; nor Bush, for that matter; why does any Repub imagine we must have a Saint? Certainly, NONE exists per running for 'this' job. Nor, should we want one, for that matter.

Well, then. The choice is clear.
If you want a small-government conservative that isn’t a loon...
...you have to throw out Romney, Paul, and Santorum.
Leaving Newt and Perry.
And if you don’t trust Newt... then your choice has been made for you with Perry being the only one of the candidates thatfits the bill.
One may not like his ‘heartless’ comment... but there are no other choices left.
Alas, if only Santorum had the wisdom and love of country to GTFO of the running.
I agree but in Fla. a campaign needs bucks and the only candidate with bucks-Perry is down in the polls.Yet many will scream for all but Newt to get out.The super Pacs are confusing.
Santorum is no conservative. Just examine his voting record.
No one still in the race is any more conservative.
