Santorum and Gingrich Scramble for the Conservative Vote

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich both pleaded with conservatives on Sunday to unite behind their candidacies in a last-ditch effort to stop Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination.

Mr. Santorum said the Republican contest needed to quickly narrow to a two-person race between Mr. Romney and someone else, but he declined to explicitly call on the other candidates to drop out.

“I’m not going to tell anybody to get in or out of a race; I think that’s their decision to make,” Mr. Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. But he added, “We need to get this eventually down to a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney.”

Mr. Santorum said the vote of support for his candidacy by Christian conservative leaders on Saturday in Texas should persuade Republicans in South Carolina that he deserves to be that alternative.

Well, here’s the problem.

It’s wrong to force people to pay into a ponzi scheme then, it’s wrong to continue to force people to pay into a ponzi scheme now.

The money that granny put into the fund, has been spent already. The money that granny is currently spending comes from you and I who are forced to pay to keep the ponzi scheme going.

The problem is that there aren’t enough of us - young folks - to keep the system going, unless you tax us over 100 percent of our income, which isn’t going to happen.

Since the program is massively in the red, the government has to borrow (as it has), to keep things going. This borrowing has to be eventually paid back - not by granny, but by her children and grandchildren.

That train can only go on so long. Only once has the US been in this kind of shape, and that was the year after the second world war. The immediate budget was a 40 percent cut in government spending.

I can show you Truman’s 46 budget - you’ll be shocked. 40 percent cuts across the board, to get the US into fiscal sanity. That worked, the deep cuts sparked a short and sharp recession, followed by the massive growth of the 50’s and early 60s.

It has to be done, and the longer we wait, the worse trouble we end in later. The ponzi scheme has to stop.

While our ultimate mental state IS our creation; cannot be argued that 'outside help' can come into play. . but to your comment re 'my crazy'. . .I said something 'crazy'?

Having done me the favor - as you might call it - of a reply ; perhaps you could offer something specific; that strikes you. . .lest I doubt your mental credentials.

Should I hold my breath waiting - or not. . .

“One of them must. One must. Or were are locked in a political Alamo.”

Very good analogy. Neither have the resources to do it. Talk of a unity ticket is about 4-6 months late.

And General “Mitt” Santa Anna is on his way.

I read that Susana Martinez likes to shoot guns and holds a conceal carry permit so the MSM will call her fat and that she clings to her bible and guns while they overlooked MO’s BFass.

If we say ‘hello’ to four more years of Obama; then we can as readily; say ‘Good-bye’ to America and for as many years; as we might imagine in our worst nightmare. Not sure what part of ‘irretrievable’ many Repubs do not get. The handwriting is far beyond the ‘wall’; our Constitution is being dismantled; as we speak!

As she is a TX gal, I think I’m obligated to kick the ass of everyone who calls her fat.

I’m sure it’s in the TX constitution.

Speaking of getting out, I’m wondering about Ron Paul. I don’t wish him ill, but he’s old and he looks horrible. He’s suddenly gone back to Texas and no one knows why. If he should drop out for health reasons, I wonder who would get his votes. He has a lot of them right now.

Obama, the only person who hates America near as much as the surrender monkey does.

I respectfully ask that you reconsider.

I think Rick Santorum ought to sit down and reconsider. Same for Rick Perry.

Neither of them has the voter support to knock off Mitt Romney in South Carolina, and by both of them pig-headedly staying in the race, one or both of them will ensure that Romney becomes the nominee, thus giving us four more years of Obama.

To anyone thinking of responding, I'm well past the vetting stage with all of the candidates, so please don't bother trying to make the case for Santorum or Perry based on that.

The fate of our country may hinge on what happens in this one primary state next Saturday. It's time to drop the egos, the promises, the back room deals, or whatever else is muddying people's vision, and rally around the one candidate who can, will, and by all rights should defeat Romney and Obama - Newt Gingrich.

Perry is far and away the most solid of any candidate on this issue. He takes a sledgehammer to the issue.

Good to hear; a sledgehammer is what it needs. . .does that make Perry a viable candidate for President; a job that includes 'world acumen' as well? Don't think so; unless you think the site of Obama chewing Perry up in a debate; and spitting him out; is a winning strategy for Repubs.

(Sorry; but Perry is STILL flubbing his lines; and getting his info wires crossed. He needs to go back to Texas; where they need him; and he can help Conservatives, from 'afar'. . .)

Santorum polls better vs Obama than Newt, btw <<

Yup...All the liberals I know told me that too!....They'd vote for Rick over Newt if it were just the 2 or ‘em!!...

That tells me alot about liberal thinking...and even more about how I should vote!

Nothing would ever be built without eminent domain.

Equine feces. The Great Northern Railroad was built entirely without it, nor with government land grants.

It doesn’t take that much land and the owners are well compensated.

Bull. The number of cases of redevelopment agencies using eminent domain to deny speculative value are so numerous as to become legendary.

The TTH was a bright idea and showed Rick Perry’s thinking outside the box as they say.

It was inside the pocket, not outside the box.

Perry took chances when he believed in something. He’s taken chances with a couple of stances in this race, as when he wouldn’t support corn gasoline in Iowa just to get votes. Santorum did.

That's laudable and was noted. I guess I place his pandering for demographic suicide a little higher than you.

He knows he’s taken an unpopular stance on the troops also, but it’s what he believes. He doesn’t trust Iran and he doesn’t think our troops should have given years of their lives only to be pulled out as a political ploy.

But once out of Iraq, it's not our decision whether to go back in without setting one very ugly precedent.
