Oh, to have a spare $12 million to play Grand Designs with. Spare a thought for Tiger Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren who is tearing down her Florida mansion to build a new one.
Nordegren has just demolished the $11.7 million pad - so she can build a better home on the same plot, TMZ reports.

Did she use a golf club?
That was wasteful. If she didn’t like it, she should’ve sold it and bought or built elsewhere.
I know she got a lot of money from Woods and all, but wouldn’t it made just a tad more sense to buy a vacant lot and build from scratch?
11.7 million dollars? Peanuts. She demolished Tiger for, what, half a billion in endorsements?
After:
Heck, I would have given her 500 bucks for it - instead she had to pay to get it torn down. My offer would have been a winner for her!
Article is flase.I’d say conservatively that the HOUSE itself was worth no more than $1.5 mill..most of the value is probably in the land..doesn’t say how old the house is, or what condition it was in..it was nice, but not architecturally distinctive..many times, indtead of a major renovation, it’s cheaper, easier, and faster.. actually to tear it down and start from scratch

She obviously needs me to guide her.
Perhaps she really liked the location, but did not care for her house.
Private person hiring other private people to provide a service for her.
Capitalism creating jobs and spreading wealth. I don’t think it is wasteful or frivolous.
The demolition costs are a minor fraction of the purchase price. There aren’t a lot of large undeveloped lots down here in Southeast Florida where you can build a large home unless you want to move to an undesirable area much farther from the coast. In my parent’s neighborhood in East Boca they tear down pretty much all of the purchased homes to rebuild. What she is doing is pretty standard in this geographical area for wealthy neighborhoods.
What about all the memories?
Ding, Ding, we have a winner.
Take a closer look at the picture dummy, that’s OCEAN FRONT PROPERTY.
Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
Also, this was probably the property that they were going to demolish and rebuild when they were married. I believe this is on Jupiter Island, which ranks in the top 3 of most expensive Zip codes in America.
I agree that it is her money to do what she wants to with it. More power to her. This may be the most sensible thing to do, if it a unique location. Who knows? I don’t know if she is spreading wealth though. Consuming wealth, in my opinion. I won’t criticize her for it.
thx Boss....those damn facts do get in the way of a good ole Woods bashin.....the house was built in the mid 30’s and in a hurricane area , the house was inadaquate as well the electricity etc.......BUT why not just piss and moan
I liked “flase” better!
I can see from your pic what her problem with the house was...she didn’t like the exterior paint color.
In fact, the house is so close to the water it has probably suffered from some serious salt infiltration and it's possible it was without any value at all.
Crucify her!
That’s exactly what ken was saying. The land is worth much more than the structure.
Tiger continued building the house on Jupiter Island. Google it. It’s a white stucco, very modern home. This is a different piece of property.
Fair enough. This kind of thing is so outside my personal experience, that its hard for me to conceptualize. As F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote: “the rich are different from you and me.”
My guess is that she was sending Tiger a clear and unambiguous “screw you” message.
It’s her money and it’s her life.
I don’t blame her b/c the house looked like a old hospital
Exactly. While the house may look nice in the picture, the facts are it was a 70 year old house that probably was going to cost almost as much to renovate and modernize as it is going to cost for her to build EXACTLY what she desires.
The purchase cost was 90% the property not the aging mansion.
It’d be a hoot if the authorities refuse a building permit, in order to protect the coastal environment.
My guess is she has moved on and never gives Tiger a thought.
I think the Contracter, his sub-contractors, the labor, the suppliers, and the equipment manufacturers are recipients of some of her wealth, and that it wasn’t magically consumed.
Thank you for putting some truth out there. She Purchased this property AFTER The divorce -- this is HER house, not one that she and Tiger owned. (I apologize if I am in error, but everything I have seen other than one story says she bought this house)
We have become such a wasteful society.Shame on HER!
This thread is useless w/o pictures of Elin.
If he wanted to sell it today, doubt he'd get haff the price..if you're gonna spend that kind of $$ on a home, you'll want it the way YOU like it..
Remember when Mike Tyson spent about $30 mill on some place in CT...including the hideous renovations..he rended up sellign it for about $5 mill..and I expect it was soon torn down..
to modernize the home for today’s electrical advantages....alarms,web cams good wiring for tv/games etc...the wiring was called a fire hazzard.....the foundation tween floors was salt saturated and would not pass code ........the home was not of any measurable value
the destruction and rebuild ACTUALLY increased the property....
My guess is that she was sending Tiger a clear and unambiguous screw you message.
Please read the article before spouting off --- She BOUGHT this house AFTER the divorce; but let's not let the facts get in the way of a good BASH TIGER opportunity!
Tiger never lived in this house, so he would have no emotional attachment to it. She bought it last March after the divorce.
As others have stated, the “demolishes $11.7 million home” headline is misleading as the land is worth far more than the structure, and she didn’t demolish the land.
My thoughts too!
“She obviously needs me to guide her.”
Take a number, pal!
But in a post with Elin in the headline, there are rules. :)
Probably right... especially after she saw the picture you posted of yourself on FR...
The two pictures don’t match up, trees etc. where the house used to sit..? It appears that they planted trees immediately after demolishing the house. Somethings weird about the after photo.
“just a tad more sense”, was the key phrase!
Sounds like we all jumped to a conclusion on Tiger being a total cad.
Like, “if you marry for money, you earn every dime” can be “marry a trophy raving blonde and you pay all too dearly with more than all your money”.
Probably not allowed to put a trailer on stilts?
Think of it this way. You buy you kid a car. He wrecks it. Insurance pays for a new car. Sure you are keeping the auto workers at the plant busy, but you're not better off, the insurance company is not better off. The world is down one car from where they would have been had your reckless kid just slowed down a little.
After building the new house, she should run for the senate. After all, it worked for other women with no abilities...like Pelosi, Boxer, etc, etc.
