(AP) COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Maldives has ordered hundreds of luxury resorts to close their spas after protesters demanded a halt to "anti-Islamic" activities.
The Indian Ocean archipelago with 1,192 tiny coral islands is known for its exquisite resorts.
A statement from the president's office said the government decided to close massage parlors and spas in the Maldives after an opposition-led religious protest last week called for their closure.

Good another Islamic state cutting off its main source of (Western) income. What is not to like?
Yes. First sentence says they are closing “luxury resorts.” A couple sentences down says they are closing “massage parlors and spas.” There can be a world of difference between the two. Lots of US cities and towns close down “massage parlors” for obvious reasons.
Perhaps Islam is just cleaning up the islands to make them more pleasant for tourists and families? (snort, snark)

I’m guessing (don’t know) that this is about the fancy spas at high end hotels and resorts, not any seedy “massage parlor” of disrepute.
The Islamists will wreck the entire hotel biz for the Maldives since many women of comfortable means will not care to vacation at places with no “luxury spa.”
It’s a highly competitive world, and couples have lots and lots of other places to vacation without even considering the Maldives anymore.

Muslims are the salt of the earth. Nothing grows where they’ve been.

There is a difference between high end spas and massage parlors?
I know a massage parlor in our town, and many men go there at all hours of the day. I guess any time is good for a massage, even 2 AM once the bars close.
Why can’t these people realize that if something is forced on you, it eliminates the possibility of making a moral choice on your own? They don’t care about people’s spiritual welfare, just about imposing their will on others.
According to the State Dept. 20% of Maldives GDP come from tourism, and Maldives is Sunni Muslim. I believe that tourism is high end hotels with spas.

I wondered about this while watching an obnoxious commercial for the “Emirates” airline, -
no alcohol on board I suppose? I saw a short shot of a stewardess, she had an unusual headdress on, so I guess that was to cover her hair.

Close the boarder, drill our own energy and let the rest of the world go to hell on it's own. If they want to turn themselves into some new 3rd world outhouse let um, even with their huge towers and all you can get is some fancy tea, because all fun is band....
Here in the US, the ladies can go out for Ladies Night out, and drive to the spa get a therapeutic massage, go out for a Martini and get some Pork Stir Fry to go with it...
Scratch the Maldives off the bucket list...
Malives should become the New Mecca. Let all Muslims who want an Islamic society and sharia law relocate there, and stay there in their own little paradise. No one else can enter, and they can’t leave. What a fine would it would be.
There are lots of pretty places. Let the Maldives starve for lack of tourism. Perhaps they can grow corn and wheat on those 1200 little rocks the call islands.
Problem is the nut job is for open borders.

Why would any sane country allow muslims to immigrate so that they can turn it into the hell hole they just left?
I can see all those high rise resorts and luxury home sites in Qatar going dark as the Dark Ages return.
A poor, unemployed Muslim is a Muslim with no options other than what his clerics tell him to do for a meager handout.
They would rather the people be poor, than risk cultural contamination from infidels.
Substitute any Democratic Party subgroup for the "M" word and your thesis still stand true !

My thought, too.
Muslims and leftists have been working as close allies for some time, even though they would see to have very different views about such things as the rights of women and gays.
Another analogy would be Communists and Nazis. Hitler and Stalin worked together very happily, dividing up Poland. It was only when they had eliminated their other rivals that they fell out with each other.
Presumably the same would be true of the Muslims and the leftists. They’ll continue to work together until they think they see victory within reach. Then they’ll turn on each other for final dominance.
