99-year-old man divorces wife after discovering she had an affair SIXTY years ago
Daily Mail ^ | Dec. 29, 2011 | Nick Pisa

A furious 99 year old man is divorcing his wife of 77 years after he discovered she had an affair more than 60 years ago.

The couple, who have been identified only as Antonio and Rosa, have both consulted lawyers and the first hearing in the case is due to take place in March.

Jealous father-of-five Antonio saw red after he discovered dust covered romantic letters from his wife to her secret lover during a clear out of their apartment in Rome.

The couple had tied the knot in Naples in 1934, where Antonio had met Rosa after he had been sent there to serve in the carabinieri paramilitary police but she had had an affair with her unidentified lover ten years later, keeping the secret to herself until now.

Lawyer Anna Orecchioni said: 'The husband decided to file for divorce after finding the love letters.

He uncovered the affair eighty years after it occurred?

Not much of a cop if you ask me.

Given the era, I wonder if she even knew he was alive?

Man, that is tough. You trust someone with all you being and then you find they were not faithful. That is devastating. What an experience about putting someone on a pedestal and then they just rip your heart and soul out. I am really touched by the pain that man must be feeling.

The affair may have taken place sixty years ago, but the husband’s discovery is in the here and now. And, as she never told him he’s also realized his wife has not been honest with him. He probably wonders what else she has not been honest about, *especially* since she decided to keep the letters from her fling. That’s not exactly a sign of regret, right there.

Poor guy.

HE'S the ass?

Did she keep her love letters to titillate herself, or to torment her husband ?

She could have disposed of them, but that would have required a guilty conscience.

Do you have a clue what it is like to give your life for something, only to find out it is a lie?

OK, granted I’m not much of a roamntic, but she spent the rest of her life with him. Doesn’t that count for soemthing? None of us should be so naïve as to believe that our spouses aren’t sometimes attracted to others. Its the longterm commitment that matters.

Oh please! Lord knows how many other guys were taking their turn with that gal. Wonder how many of his kids are actually his? He’s done the right thing, too bad in Italy they make you wait 5 years before you can get officially divorced, he’ll probably be dead by then.

Wow. Talk about a bombshell after a lifetime together. I agree he has every right to leave. I’d like to think he might forgive her, but anyone might wonder if there were other affairs that followed. For her to keep this secret for so long suggests that possibility.

Wow, guys really can’t win no matter what.

If the guy cheats on his wife and she divorces him, he’s an ass.

If the woman cheats on the guy and he divorces her, he’s still the ass.

Perhaps we ought to leave it up to the guy as we’re not going through what he’s gone through, and hasn’t felt he’s been living a lie after being betrayed by the person he thought he knew. Maybe not be so hasty to label him an ass.

Being told you’re “allowed” or “permitted” to have a fling ain’t the same thing.

Further it hardly makes up for betrayal and coverup. Besides he’s so old now. Can’t really have that great a fling now.

You do not condemn him? How stupid is that! It’s almost as stupid as him not being able to get over something that happened over 6 decades ago! What a total jerk! He probably had multiple affairs on her! If she had uncovered his, she would have been expected to forgive him and to work on improving the marriage. Perhaps he should have been a better lover to her, and he should have been there for her; then she wouldn’t have had to look elsewhere to fulfill her needs!

We don’t know from the article that he put her on a pedestal or treated her like cr@p. We just know they stayed married 77 years and she had an affair 60+ years ago. Yes, she betrayed his trust all those decades ago, but managed to keep her secret of a war-time affair to herself for all these years, perhaps from her own shame and guilt.
