Skip to comments.Romney: $40 Would Make a ‘Substantial Difference’ to American Families
Posted on 12/22/2011 12:02:39 PM PST by TBBT
LANCASTER, N.H. Mitt Romney today said that the $40 many Americans would lose if the payroll tax holiday isnt extended would make a very substantial difference to those who would be without it. Itll be the difference between having a meal that includes meat or just Hamburger Helper, said Romney in an interview with ABC News John Berman aboard his new campaign bus in northern New Hampshire. It could be the difference between being able to take your family to McDonalds at the end of the week. It means the difference between being able to go to a movie or not going to a movie. It makes a real difference to the American people, he said. WATCH MORE FROM THE ABC NEWS INTERVIEW WITH JOHN BERMAN ON WORLD NEWS AT 6:30 P.M. EST. Romney said that he believes both Republicans and Democrats need to sit down and work out a deal regarding the payroll tax extension, and that it was time to put the sausage in the sausage grinder and come out with a bill that provides an ongoing payroll tax holiday.

For some reason, the memory of Bush the elder's discovery of that fascinating new gizmo called a bar code scanner at the check out line comes to mind.
Mittens thinks that Hamburger Helper is the second cook they hire when they give a lawn party at this estate.
4 packs of smokes
Very few of the people this is really aimed at make anywhere near enough to be paying $40 a week in “payroll taxes”. I am talking votes.
about 1/4 of a Mitt haircut
Typical Romney idiocy!
Anyone but Romney and Paul
Doesn't it still require hamburger?
Isn't hamburger ground meat?
Whether you agree with the Republicans in the House or not on this issue, he's not going to make any friends among conservatives by stabbing them in the back and repeating Obama's rhetoric. He should have just kept his big mouth shut.
2 lap dances.
Mittens makes me want to barf! Where is the beef?
If Romney were worth anything, we would be hearing about it in spades about way more than $40....
How about rippping Obama apart? Never happen.
How about our borders? Never happen.
How about national defense and the military? Never happen.
How about his conservatism and the judiciary? Never happen.
The list goes on.
How in God’s name, is he going to debate Obama and survive the pile of lies he will be facing?
Let’s see, I have Newt’s phone number here somewhere.....
Is the gov’t handing out lap-dance stamps?
But I guess the $204 extra dollars per year in fees that anybody purchasing or refinancing a home won’t hurt anybody at all, eh Mitt??
That’s the same rationale for the minimum wage. If $40 means a difference, why not $80?
When effing politicians wann argue about 40 bucks with We the People..well that’s OUR fault they think they have any say whatsoever about our 40 dollars!!!
What about the extra 4K extra I paid for gas in 2011?
Romney is only trying to keep up with Obama.
How many do you know earning that much the rely on hamburger helper to survive?
That stupid bastard doesn't even know how out of touch he is.
That story about Bush and bar code scanners was a lie. He wasn’t impressed by bar code scanners...he was impressed by a new type of scanner that could read torn or damaged codes more accurately. The reporter who ran with it decided your version better fit the “Bush is out of touch” meme that they were using to get Clinto elected.
But hey...if you want to carry Newsweek’s water, who am I to judge...
Pay no attention to the extra $2,000 you paid in gas this year. Or the upcoming big spike in electricity bills, thanks to Obama’s EPA.
What a joke Mittens is.
Could somebody tell Mittens that Hamburger Helper does contain meat. (Hamburger)
.... It could be the difference between being able to take your family to McDonalds at the end of the week. It means the difference between being able to go to a movie or not going to a movie.
So, per week.
40*52 = $2,080 per yer.
2% of X = 2,080
X = 2,080/0.02
X = $104,000
If only I had supported him just to unsupport him.
Total pandering scum.
“Could somebody tell Mittens that Hamburger Helper does contain meat. (Hamburger)”
You better run out and buy a box of it, report back on how much meat you find in it.
The Hamburger Helper mascot is the “Helping Hand”, an anthropomorphic animated, four fingered left-hand glove, which appears in the product’s television commercials and on the packages. AKA Mittens!
I was just reading that they do sell it with and without meat. There are also 40 flavors.
“Anyone but Romney and Paul”
Yeah, that is my view...
That story about Bush and bar code scanners was a lie. He wasnt impressed by bar code scanners...he was impressed by a new type of scanner that could read torn or damaged codes more accurately. The reporter who ran with it decided your version better fit the Bush is out of touch meme that they were using to get Clinto elected. But hey...if you want to carry Newsweeks water, who am I to judge...Remember now... We are talking about the media here. Perception is reality... Now argue that is was a smart move on Mitt's part...
Well Duh! How do they expect ya to get meat in it, you have to cut off a finger and toss it in. Just like the mascot shows.
Where to start with this guy?
—He takes Obama’s position on the tax “holiday”
—He equates the Republicans and Democrats “Both sides need to sit down and work something out”.
—Says the “Economy will get better, it always does”
—Faults Hoover for the length of the Great Depression instead of Roosevelt.
How ‘bout them apples, Ann Coulter?
The maximum social security amount per year is $106,800
(so sayeth ehow, http://www.ehow.com/info_7789422_maximum-security-tax-per-year.html )
Which means whoever came up with the $40 is referencing the -maximum- possible savings, not the typical or average.
$41.07 says the TI calculator.
When people got into such a frenzy about the $5 charge per month for using an ATM 0bama took note and is running with the $40 since that would be an outrage if $5 was a frenzy!
The median household income in the United States is $46,326. ... S

What is the average yearly household income in the US for 2008?
According to the US Census Bureau, the US median income in 2006 was $48,201.00.
The substantial difference is that they will be eating cat food when they retire because nonsense like this is completely undermining Social Security solvency. Its like saying that you aren’t going to contribute to your 401K this year.
I can’t think of anyone with less self-awareness than Mitt.
So clueless and out of touch.
Substantial??? What planet is he living on?
I want my muffler /flashback
Mitt Romney. He understands.
as was posted on http://www.buzzfeed.com/jpmoore/mitt-romney-understands-how-occupywallstreet-feel
The >$400/mo debt the Obama is burdening us with is a far greater issue than the $40 addressed.
They are cut from the same cloth. People who like BS will love the Mitten.
I don’t care about Romney...so...no...
I am a bit tired of hearing George Bush getting trashed by people using lies spun by the left...
Here is the video of Bush using the scanner:
The NY Times created the narrative that you have heard, about his being amazed, etc...and the rest is history.
However, other people there say he was being polite, acting interested, and actually seemed bored. The demonstration, by the way, was an upgraded technology, which could read damaged bar codes, and had the introduction of the scale. If you look at a still photo of the event, there are signs in front of two scanners...ready for a side by side try-out.
The episode did not occur in a random grocery store either. It was an exhibit set up at a grocer’s convention...another indication that this particular scanner was indeed new technology, with some sort of bell and whistle worth buying booth space to show it off.
I’m no apologist for Bush...I just hate it when some BS media storyline becomes historical fact. It was campaign season. Bush made a stop, acted interested in what the locals were showing him, and moved on. Thats the real story of Bush and the bar code scanner.
yeah, well, gingrich said the same damn thing: the House Republicans have to eat it.
I disagree—this whole “tax cut” thing is a farce, as Rush (and, not to be boastful *I*) have been saying for a long time.
The communica tions ability of the Republicans has to get better. And the Senators have to grow some BALLS.
McConnell could have refused to go along: “Hey, why are we saddling new home buyers with $6,000 more debt to pay for the Social Security funding?” would have been a great question and reason to keep the Senate in session and debating this crap.
We are where we are on this stupid issue not because Republicans are wrong—they’re right to want to stop this nonsense. They just don’t know how to street fight Hussein and his asslickers in the media and on Capitol Hill.
They have to learn: do not trust Hussein, do not give him any quarter, and get in his face.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Hussein and his cult are like the scorpion on the back of the frog....
Yeah, you can buy cake and then eat it with $40.
Willaird is a wimp
Well bless little Mittie’s heart for thinking of us “little people”.
