The last debate before the January 3rd Iowa caucuses is being held tonight in Sioux City.
We get seven candidates at this debate: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman.
Fox's Bret Baier anchors the debate. Fox News panelists questioning the candidates: Chris Wallace, Megyn Kelly and Neil Cavuto.
Bachmann comes across like a whiny old bat.
Just vote as Frank says, and everything will go according to plan....
From Newt.org:
He is also the longest-serving teacher of the Joint War Fighting course for Major Generals at Air University and taught officers from all five services as an honorary Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Professor at the National Defense University.
So, that’s a no?
I agree. That was the Perry I saw in Iowa City a few months back. He’s not stupid and he’s not a drone.
Gingrich was masterful tonite. Still don’t trust him but he’d smack Prez Fool Sucka around like a little beeotch doll.
Santorum was great, just no real gravitas.
Romney was Spin Spin Spin!
Michelle was the Opportunistic Cutthroat Harpy.
Huntsman is Eddie Hascal.
Paul is the Alien Abducted Homeless Crazy Guy.
Pat Caddell giving Ron Paul an F in the second half
Gave newt a B+
From the beginning they kept saying Mitt’s the forerunner and haven’t stopped. The liberal media and ‘rinos are all in this together - and that includes MITT and MICHELLE!!
MB to:
Cain - 666 - the devil is in the details
Perry - the vaccination brings metal retardation
Newt - anything she can twist.
MB to:
Mitt - (undisclosed - I got your back, I’ll take on any opponent who passes you in the polls)
If Mitt gets the nod - the idiots who supported MB OWN IT!
Gingrich wiggled and it was obvious that Gingrich’s get your facts right didn’t shut up Bachmann like he wanted. One of Nwt’s long time pals said he has a huge ego.I think he would make a superb sec of state or other cabinet position. We need real change not good ole boy crony crap.Perry and Bachmann look to offer the most true change and DC overhaul.Gingrich would not shake up congress and make them all Part Time.He butters his bread with high ranking pubs.
Yep. It was fine to question that and get it out there, but she kept harping and harping on it even after he'd answered the questions about four times. Then she harped some more for two days after the debate was over.
MIchele did what the anti-FReepers do around here...demagogued a single piece of info into a false attack. Just because you refuse to "purge" pro-choice Republicans, doesn't mean you support abortion. Just because you wouldn't kick evey one of 11 million illegals out, doesn't mean you support amnesty.
Yes, I agree.....Perry nailed it with every opportunity he got!
I got home late and missed the first 15-20 minutes. Can anyone explain to me what Perry said about Tim Tebow?
Newt won the debate, period. Perry did great, but that’s given his low expectations. Bachman, Paul and Santorum are done. Romney did well, but nobody will ever trust that guy....
I concur.
Bachman is toast since Cain is gone — no more, Turn 9-9-9 upside-down, my opponent is a satanist....
Yeah, Newt won the debate, but he hasn’t won the war.
He said that HE was the Tim Tebow of the Republican Party...
Can’t we nominate Perry and have Newt as a Designated Debater?
Because he thinks ALL his opponents are just like BHO (when, really, HE’S the most like him!) and he’d just as soon hand BHO another term by running third party. I’m scared to death of that happening. Heck, I don’t even want to see Trump run third party!
anyone listening to Caddell right now?? Did they rate Mitt?
correction anti-Newters
I’ll second that motion.
Someone needs to give him a sedative.
Gingrich just announced he'd pick apart Obama's speeches if he runs from debates and force his hand...old school politics.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving CEO.......LOL
“Perry has already said he would ask Bolton to be his Sec’y of State.”
I know Newt said he would like Bolton to be Secretary of State. I did no know Perry also said that.
Newt kicked media butt.
Perry didn’t come across as a butt.
Bachmann kissed Romney’s butt.
Huntsman kissed major China butt.
Paul is a crazy old butt.
Santorum maybe needed to butt in.
Megyn Kelly? Get her butt off there.
Give it a rest.
It was an analogy about the under dog and having faith.
He said he would “like” to be the Tim Tebow of the party.
“Over 60 million people will be watching the debates next October. Ask yourself honestly, who do you want opposing Obama in those debates? Who is most likely to shred Obama to pieces?”
Simple. Wo does the MSM want? Don’t vote for him.
He referred to hoping for a Tim Tebow moment. He didn’t say this, but this is what I got out of what he said: hoping and praying for a 4th quarter miracle win.
Ron Paul: potato salad!
Mr Culture, if that is your real name (apropos, none other than Herr Hermann Goering (not running this year) is said to have said “When I hear the word “culture”, I reach for my gun.” (Actually, that was a line in a German stage play, wrongly attributed to lovable Hermie)), I haven’t heard anyone calling anyone “bitch”, and I’ll have to take your word for it, but I do think that these “debates”, that someone in today’s WSJ (Henninger?) accurately characterized as “mini-press conferences” for the candidates, deserve nothing better than comments about the excessive makeup (on the “bitch”, as it happened), the neck ties (one of them looked exactly like one I had 30 years ago or more) , lighting and stage decor, and other elements of the shoe, as Ed Sullivan might have put it, all of them as superficial as the contents of the mini-speeches we heard.
Newt on Fox recap stating he’ll stalk Obama and pick apart every speech he makes in every location until he agrees to a Lincoln-Douglas style debate.
Would love to watch Newt get all FREAKY on Obama.
“Bachman does very well when she isnt trashing other candidates.”
How would you know? I never hear her doing anything ELSE!
Perry said he wanted to be the Tim Tebow candidate (Win it at the end).
But he had some more gaffes again, including saying that the Monroe Doctrine was used against Cuba in the 1960s. Ugh.
FOX tried to shut Newt down, but he rose above them in spite of their effort and won anyway. (With one hand tied behind his back) He is the quintessential statesman and is absolutely Presidential. No matter how hard they tried to hinder that, they just made themselves look biased in the process.
I will never listen to a word Krauthhammer has to say ever again.
I didnt hear them rate Mitt. I find that odd. Newt got the highest rating but no mention of Mitt that I heard when they were rating the various candidates.
The last non-Establishment president was Reagan. Unfortunately, he was coerced to put an Establishment pick for VP, GHWB, and appoint many more in his administration. That's one reason he wasn't able to end the Dept of Education.
Still, he accomplished SO much - and got the ball rolling.
Newt worked with him and then in the '90's, brought in the highest number of new members of the House in history - and they took over the house for the first time in 40 years.
He balanced the budget 4 years in a row - not done for decades before and never since.
He has said he will not keep ONE holdover from the current regime - all czars fired the first day, Ben Bernake = fired, etc., AND he has said he'd like Col. West for his VP and Bolton for his SOS, and I have an idea he will tap Sarah to use her expertise to spearhead the Drill Here, Drill now. These are the kind of people he will appoint - far from being members of the Establishment.
This is why the Establishment is so frightened. They know with 8 years of Pres. Newt and then a probable 8 more years of non- Establishment people, that they will all be swept into the dustbin of history.
I don’t remember Politico being mentioned in this debate at all.
I agree. I don't have cable, and I don't feel like putting up with a shaky internet video feed, so I only followed the debate via this thread.
What I saw was the most juvenile form of cheerleader-ism and vulgar put-downs, and not much coherent analysis.
Hey FReepers who love one candidate or another: putting your cheers in bold, big font, repeated, or with multiple exclamation marks says nothing. On the other hand, comparing what a candidate says or claims to have done with the real record is very useful - especially when done with a link to the documentation.
Just some "friendly feedback" after 13 years on this forum....
Very proud of her.
Perry does not need debate help. He is getting on his game. Check out some of this stuff. Go down the page and see him on stage during one of Hannitys gigs. You will see a Rick Perry you may have not seen but Texas has.

Thank-you as well for this thread.
Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah EVERYONE!
Gingrich moves to critical mass.....goodbye Bachmann.....
Perry wants US to freaking rebuild Mexico. No Thanks.
LOL! Very cool analysis
I think whoever the nominee is, it will go GOP this time regardless of the VP. Obummers numbers are real bad here for an incumbent Rat.
"I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses," Perry said at the Republican presidential debate in Sioux City, the last before the first voters make their choices Jan. 3.
"There are a lot of folks that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback," Perry said. "And, you know, he won two national championships. And that looked pretty good."
Perry needs to be talking about that amazing, underdog, AFC South Champion team on the Gulf Coast of his own state.
Just sayin'.
Not that I'm biased or anything. ;-)
