Man found dead in Pioneer Park, Occupy SLC ordered to leave both camps

SALT LAKE CITY — Hours after a man was found dead inside a tent at Pioneer Park, Salt Lake Police Chief Chris Burbank announced Friday he could no longer allow camping in the park or anywhere in the city.

"We can no longer have individuals camping on our streets," Burbank said. "We as a city just cannot tolerate this going on."

Burbank asked members of the Occupy Salt Lake protest group to start packing immediately and to be out of the park by sunset Saturday. The ban on camping overnight also includes the Gallivan Center, where a group was recently moved after setting up camp near the Federal Building.

Burbank made the announcement Friday at Pioneer Park at the Occupy Salt Lake base camp. He said the group was welcome to continue protesting during the day, but they will no longer be allowed there at night.

They leave the tents up to make it seem like they’re all there roughing it for “the cause” but they’re not.

They should remove any "abandoned property" each night and take it to a "lost and found" land fill about 50 miles away. Or they could move it to a dumpster nearby. City's choice.

I can't believe how many city leaders have totally abandoned their laws and common sense over this "occupy" trash.

Once they are gone, these idiots better re-write their laws to prevent such happenings in the future.

Everyone has the right to protest, but we have no obligation to abandon the common good to help these commies.

Just when will these Obama-villes be removed by health authorities? They are a menace to public health. They all are the equivalent of the hobo encampments of the 1930’s. Bums...just bums.

Why do people disregard those warnings?

Because the lawyers have made the warning instructions 20 pages long and no one reads them.

"Do not operate this electric circular saw under water."

"Do not stand on this chainsaw while operating it."

"Do not hit your head, face, teeth, toes, fingers, or any other appendages with this hammer."

"Do not use this garden sprayer to spray gasoline onto a charcoal grill."

"Do not slam the hood of this car on your hand."

"Do not use this industrial pneumatic stapler to repair clothing you are wearing or to close wounds on your body."

"Do not let children use this nail gun to build gingerbread houses."

"Do not use this concrete saw to trim your toenails."

"This one is really important, but a lot of people never get to it. Do not operate this carbon monoxide producing oxygen depleting charcoal/propane/gas grill/heater in an enclosed area, especially it the occupants are asleep, drunk, drugged, or otherwise already rendered semi-conscious or unconscious."

"Do not clean the PTO shaft of this tractor with your clothing while it is rotating."

"Do not hold the blade of this reciprocating saw while it is moving at full speed."

Do not perform surgery with or otherwise use this bandsaw on any living body parts.

"Do not lean over this 20" metal lathe while wearing a necktie."

Do not work under this car while it is supported by four beer bottles."

"Do not drive this 60' man lift at high speed over railroad crossings while it is fully extended."

I’m not quite dead... I’m getting better!

Hey, it WOULD be fun to walk through these places with a wheelbarrow (accompanied by a camera crew) while chanting, "Bring out your dead."

I was in Boston this week and saw the OB group and it was disgusting.

Some of them (Harvard students only, please!) moved over to Occupy Harvard. It's rather more exclusive than the other Occupies; the gates are closed and locked, and I've heard even some with valid Harvard IDs aren't allowed ("Profiling!" as Howie Carr said on his radio show).

I also hear the Occupy Harvard people are manning the tents in 3-hour shifts, handy since they're just a few minutes from their dorms and classes and all the charms of Harvard Square.

Howie Carr's next column in the Boston Herald is supposed to be on Occupy Harvard -- can't wait, should be today or tomorrow!

Even the MSM is covering it; here's CBS: Occupy Harvard: Nation's most exclusive tent city.

...After they read your post they’ll start having moats put in around their homes..

I like to study Civil War history. Sanitation was a huge problem early on in the Army camps and later in the prisons. Almost as many men died from disease as from bullets. The route causes were the same: filthy crowded conditions, a disregard for proper sanitation, and an ignorance about how these diseases spread. I feel sorry for the innocent people who live and work next to these OWS camps.

Good.

It’s past time for the city officials to put a stop to this.

Jeez - can it get any more hypocritical than this? And, theres no doubt the MSM will not give this even five minutes of coverage as they are too busy propping up Anita Hill and her lies of 15 years ago.

Can’t the local health departments do something to shut down these filthy squatters?

Common sense, and adherence to health codes, have taken a back seat to Democrat supported public activism. Remember that Obama, Pelosi, and most of the Democrat establishment, have come out in favor of the OWS camps. These idiots actually think they will reap political rewards out of the Pathogen Parks movement.

Actually, the link I gave to the CBS site pointed out delicately the strong connections of Harvard to the 1% -- and quoted one Harvard student protestor who objected to locked gates because it only reinforced Harvard's reputation as "exclusive"! Well, d'uh!

I don't watch TV news (unless I need the weather for upcoming snowstorm or something), so I don't know whether it's being much covered on TV, but a surprising number of stories turned up when I googled "occupy harvard" -- not Howie Carr's column yet though!

I have to admit that I did not go to the link but I googled “occupy harvard” also and you’re right, there are alot of on line stories there but I doubt we’ll see the same story lead the six o’clock news this evening. But - like you, I don’t watch TV news either as it looks like we share the same opinion of them!

“Do not lean over this 20” metal lathe while wearing a necktie.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I knew a man who retired from the Navy about fifty years ago as a Chief Machinist Mate. He was short, broad shouldered and beefy. He used to tell a story about running a lathe while wearing his CPO uniform which included a necktie. He said he wound up bracing both hands against the housing of the lathe and pulling back while turning blue in the face and just when he thought it was all over for him someone saw what was happening and killed the power. His own description of himself which he often expressed was, “I’m as thick in the head as a bull is in the ass.”

What was it that Clint fellow said? Something about needing to know your own limitations?
