Maryland Governor Martin OMalley is threatening to ram through a sweeping new land use plan that imposes an environmentalist agenda on the states sprawling rural populations a move that could spark a tax revolt and mass exodus unless it is rewritten, county officials and state legislators told The Daily Caller on Monday.
OMalley has indicated that he intends to impose what some lawmakers are calling a draconian new environmentalist agenda, known as Plan Maryland, through executive order and regulation, rather than through the state legislature, even though his fellow Democrats dominate both chambers.
Plan Marylands expensive new mandates for rural home builders will make new residences prohibitively expensive. OMalley also intends to withhold state funds from new road projects and even new sewage systems if they are proposed outside the smart growth boundaries designated by his state planning board.
As rural legislators and county commissioners, we will do everything we can to stop it through legislative means, Delegate Kathy Afzali, a Republican from Frederick County told TheDC.

Agenda 21.....the Marxists are getting desperate while bambi is still in......
Smart growth plans in rural farmland areas are more like stupid starvation plans, chasing out farmers in favor of rich liberals who want a hobby horsie farm and to pay tripple the property taxes, which the smart growth planning boards are more than happy to take in.
New home building is to be one home on 40 acres. That's too small to farm in a meaningful way to the economy, too big for some idiot from suburbia to maintain. It also destroys family farming because the younger generation can't build a home on the farm, but instead have to go spend $300,000 to build a home near their family farm. They pass.
Agenda 21?
Agenda 21, Californians think its cool because they get to be Green.

The only way to git 'er done is do away with representative government and impose a dictatorship.
Pity really, the Marxist is turning MD into RI “lite” more or less an affluent suburb of Babylon on the Potomac.
But the exodus would be from the red areas of MD. Wouldn’t that be just fine with the ‘Rats?
Yep, and with the Eastern Shore becoming the Hamptons of the Beltway Bandits, expect the GOP in Murdahland to go the way of the giant sloth.
Yeah, another Marxist dictator.
Rural Marylanders would like to get rid of him. Problem is, too many voters are big city democrats on the dole.
” mass exodus “ they will tax the exodus for those moving out of state.
Think. Think about who is wealthy enough to comply with the smart growth agenda. And think about why the constituents behind it would want a “mass exodus.” How would they benefit from it? Why would they want their neighbors out—those who can’t afford it and would otherwise be forced to rent instead of owning. Do you see, yet? Do you see?
It was fine with Coleman Young in Detroit . It did not work out so well in the long run though.
The hell with legislative means.
You’d almost think that Virginia is paying Maryland officials to do all of this....to chase residents down into Virginia.
You are right. The governor never gets the rural vote in Maryland, so he has nothing to lose by screwing rural areas.
same problem California has had for years - and why we have to now beg the feds for our own water
Maryland is about to become California.
Get out while you still can.

It wasn't too small when tobacco was grown in Maryland. 40 acres was a big tobacco farm.
And you know it too, don'tcha?!?! And I love your tagline!!!
You still "da man," Rocky!!!
...and with the governor inside would be doubly so, so I'll refrain from suggesting that, too.

Imho.... Maryland is very harsh toward farms. Why? Because let’s say you force a farmer to sell his property to a developer. The developer builds four bedroom houses on .25 acres each. How much tax revenue does the state get? This is all about money. Years ago, I went to the Montgomery County Agricultural fair... what a joke. They had to “import” farmers and their livestock/produce from other states. We simply don’t have many farms left at all.
That’s because the tobacco farmers could only grow what they had government allotments to grow. It’s very tightly controlled. A tobacco allotment is a coveted thing.
Which will also become the new driving force in dispensing medical services under Obamacare. We'll all become the starving and diseased victimized by marxist totalitarian regimes in Africa, waiting for food and medicine which has become the new non-violent weapon of choice against dissident people.
