And as soon as he’s re-elected, they will go right back into the Lock Box and he will once again “forget” that he was elected as a Conservative. Like so many of his colleagues in the Senate, he has just stayed too long, thinks he’s entitled to the seat he holds, and forgets who elected him. Remember, he loved Teddy Kennedy. ‘Nuf said.
He seems to have a smarter than average constituency. Even Bob Bennett voted to the right of most of the GOP in the senate. But he had no fire in the belly and he was even bigger on reaching across the aisle than Orin Hatch. I don’t think the lesson was totally lost on Orin. We shall see . . .
The Catholic Church has a practice that I wish could be applied to the Senate . When a bishop reaches 75, he sends his resignation to the Pope. Normally, the Pope accepts it. Most men, even in good health, once they get past 75, are on the downward slope. The House is another matter. The people can choose who they want, but senators are too far removed from the people to give a hang about what they think.
