Rick Perry Support Weakening

Support for presidential hopeful Rick Perry is weakening with the Texas governor now in third place, a poll of conservative voters in Iowa indicates.

The poll, released Thursday by the American Research Group, had Perry in third with 14 percent of the vote, behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 21 percent and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., at 15 percent, UPI.com reported.

"When Perry came in, a lot of people were leaning [toward] Perry or at least looking at him very hard," Bob Vander Plaats, the head of Family Leader, socially conservative umbrella organization, told The Hill, a Washington publication.

"The first three issues he addressed were HPV, the DREAM Act and the border fence," said former Iowa Republican Party Political Director Craig Robinson. "That shows how damaging these debates have been to Perry. He's explaining and he hasn't done a very good job of it."

Perry, like all the other Anti-American open borders hacks, has blood on his hands. No Bueno. No voto.

Bachmann is coming back!

Really? She is in the back of the pack with polling and I haven't seen her do anything to turn it around.

“old poll from earlier in the week.”

It’s the latest Iowa poll. The only thing that happened since then is that Perry is on the defensive (again) about the name of his ranch.

“I haven’t seen her do anything to turn it around.”

She’s been working the ground in Iowa and is back to double digits in this poll. If she wins there she’ll turn this race upside down.

Unfortunately, this is all Perry’s fault. He turned in 3 consecutive lousy debate performances where he should have been able to make adjustments after the first or second event.
I like Perry for the most part. I think he has done a decent job as governor of Texas, but his lack of preparedness makes me think he is not up to the task of winning the election.

I think what’s going on here is that people are seeing that Perry simply isn’t up to standards needed to go toe to toe with Obama (or especially Hillary, as I think she’ll wind up on their ticket). No big deal, and no surprise given his history in Texas, where he may have been governor for a decade, but hasn’t even had a debate in 5 years(as I’ve read)...he basically got coronated (when Bush-43 became prez) and just keeps getting re-coronated, over and over again.

He probably really thought he’d get a coronation for the Republican ticket in 2012. Oh well...not so easy.

He has the same problem that former President Bush had: lack of good communications skills. We need a nominee that can debate and is quick on his feet. I hope that Perry can recover some of his mojo, but his window of opportunity is quickly closing.

Republicans destroying their own. We will end up with the weakest link as a result. Bank on it.

It’s the latest Iowa poll. The only thing that happened since then is that Perry is on the defensive (again) about the name of his ranch.

You know, you do yourself a disservice when you spread the lies like the libs do. FR used to be better than this.

It's not his ranch but a hunting lease. The Perry's don't even own it. They just get to hunt on the land during hunting season.

Update (Ed): Here is the statement from Perry’s camp in its entirety:

“A number of claims made in the story are incorrect, inconsistent, and anonymous, including the implication that Rick Perry brought groups to the lease when the word on the rock was still visible. The one consistent fact in the story is that the word on a rock was painted over and obscured many years ago.

“Gov. Perry and his family never owned, controlled or managed the property referenced in the Washington Post story. The 42,000-acre ranch is owned by the Hendricks Home for Children, a West Texas charity. http://www.hendrickhome.com/

“Perry’s father painted over offensive language on a rock soon after leasing the 1,000-acre parcel in the early 1980s. When Gov. Perry was party to the hunting lease from 1997 to 2007, the property was described as northern pasture. He has not been to the property since 2006.

In 1991, the Texas Legislature passed a bill to rename old, offensive place names.”

Perry and Mittens *are* the weakest link.

You would think Perry would have been bright enough to make sure something was done about the name of that ranch, or whatever it is, before running.

Good thing this came out early.

Romney “is” the weakest link but we will end up with him because conservatives are shooting everyone else down. Who’s going to beat obama-Hillary in 2012? Bachman? Cain? Santorum? Reality check.....

All this proves is that none of the polls mean a thing this far out.
