Obama was warned of loan dangers long before Solyndra sank
September 27, 2011 | 3:08 am

Top economic advisors to President Obama warned him a year ago about the serious political and financial risks of the Energy Department's loan guarantee program that has resulted in taxpayers likely being responsible for the loss of $527 million loaned to the politically-connected California solar firm Solyndra.

But on Aug. 31 the company, whose major owner was also a major fundraising bundler for the 2008 Obama-Biden campaign, filed for bankruptcy and eliminated most of its 1,100 jobs.

In a detailed story posted overnight, The Times' Tom Hamburg, Kim Geiger and Matea Gold outline the danger signals set off in October 2010 when secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner and chief economic advisor Lawrence Summers warned the president that Energy's vetting process was not stringent enough to weed out troubled applicants in advance.

Energy Secy. Steven Chu, who like Obama holds a Nobel Prize, was eager to push through applications by 30 companies for the program's $17 billion. He wanted even less oversight from Treasury.

The story has developed legs for two reasons:

Good ole Buckwheat should be made to pay all that money back to the tax payers. More than likely, part of the money went right back to him anyway.

Geeeeesh what a crook!

That gong and four or five dollars will get them a cup of coffee at most any Starbucks.

Remember what I said a few weeks ago that Solyndra may have been an embezzlement scheme that essentially diverted much of that US$535 million loan guarantee to the Obama re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and/or allied 501(c)(3) political organizations? If that is the case, we may be talking the most serious political embezzlement scandal since William Magear Tweed did pretty much the same thing when he ran the Tammany Society in New York City between 1858 and 1871.

And that's all we really need to know, right there.

Paid off with tax-payer dollars.

The sight and sound of him just galls me because I know he reads whatever “the teleprompter” puts out there. A President of the United States should have more respect for the office. He is a poseur, nothing more.

poseur: a person who attempts to impress others by assuming or affecting a manner, degree of elegance, sentiment, etc., other than his or her true one. (dictionary.com)

obama is a numb node narcissist who loves playing a President on TV, and is flattered that the powers that be, chose him. He is our American Idol president.

The Solyndra money went right into the pockets of the Democrat Party. obama knew this all along. He belongs in prison.

I turn the channel, or turn off the radio. I would rather read the words than witness his charade.

Very funny stuff.

How much is "much" of $535 million?

$100 million? 200? 300?

I'd buy $1 million, maybe, probably more like 100 or 200K.

Solyndra blew their loan on 1) a shiny new manufacturing facility they didn't need, and 2) materials to produce vast quantities of stuff that nobody wanted to buy.

Not on embezzled money diverted to campaign contributions.

Jug-ears will get the money to throw down his re-election rat-hole from someone else, Solyndra's money has been long since squandered by the morons who ran Solyndra into the ground.

Yours is the sort of comment that causes laughter elsewhere.

This is about morons like jug-ears and Chu who think that government can efficiently direct investment when they don't have a clue, not goofy conspiracy theories about massive embezzlement schemes.

Relax. Jug-ears doesn't have a chance. He's electoral toast.

You can laugh all you want, but go read up on the notorious history of William Magear "Boss" Tweed, perhaps the most notorious politician in American history. The amount of money he earned from all that political graft may have been gigantic--some scholars estimate he may have gotten US$200 million in 1871 dollars through all that graft, about US$3.6 billion in today's dollars! :-O

Given the rapid collapse of Solyndra, who knows how much of that US$535 million loan guarantee ended up in the Obama re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and/or allied 501(c)(3) political organizations. And this is probably only scratching the surface of monetary embezzlement through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that cost US$800 BILLION.

Well, yes, I’ll be laughing a lot. At you.

As will many others who don’t have to “read up” on anything, perhaps unlike most of the people who accept your rubbish at face value.

“May have.” You used that three times in two posts. “If that was the case.” “Perhaps.” “Probably.”

Hedge much?

Your credibility suffers severely from the fact that you can cite exactly ZERO evidence of ANYTHING that you allege or imply.

Have you got even one conspiracy theory that’s even half-way believable?

This one doesn’t qualify. Economic illiteracy and stupidity =/= conspiracy.
