Far right questions Rick Perry on immigration

McALLEN, Texas (AP) - For all of his rock-solid conservative credentials, Texas Gov. Rick Perry may have an Achilles' heel: immigration.

Perry will undoubtedly focus his presidential campaign on Texas' relatively healthy economy and its low taxes and his record in creating jobs in the 11 years he's been governor. What he may have to explain on the stump is how illegal immigrants have contributed to that success, adding as much as $17.7 billion a year to the state gross product and enjoying such benefits as in-state tuition at public universities.

"Gov. Perry is very eager to appear tough on illegal immigration, but upon closer inspection he's part of the problem," complained William Gheen, who runs the North Carolina-based political action committee Americans for Legal Immigration. The group intends to educate conservative groups about candidates' positions on that issue.

Tea party criticism about Perry's immigration record is now appearing on activist blogs in Arizona and New Hampshire.

A 2006 state report said that the state's illegal immigrants - 1.4 million then, 1.65 million now - added $17.7 billion to the gross state product, and that the state came out ahead on taxes it collected versus services it provided. But local governments and county hospitals were shouldering the burden of caring for that population.

The Texas Association of Business, which has backed Perry in all his gubernatorial campaigns and has members who individually have provided Perry with hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign cash, touted that report in its firm support of comprehensive immigration reform. TAB, the state's chamber of commerce, has lobbied for immigration reform and against state legislation regulating immigration.

...and your post is just refried hackneyed worn out talking points.....why bother.

No, some of us don't want Perry....

..and no, that doesn't mean we cede the Presidency to Obama...

I said that he was not perfect... only JESUS was and they crucified him. Reagan also cut and ran from Lebanon... we should have killed every radical that breathed at the time. Oliver North stated that al qaeda was born in that attack on our Marines. Like I said... he was not perfect... but he was a GREAT PRESIDENT. He understood America and Americans and he dearly loved both. HE KNEW that were were exceptional and he meant it... not as a sound bite but from his heart. He was also more of a Conservative than any President in my lifetime... and I am older than dirt.

“Rush Limbaugh said that”

Rush also said this; “RUSH: Now, Rick Perry used to be soft on immigration, now he’s not. There’s no way you’re gonna hear Rick Perry supporting amnesty in any way, shape, manner, or form. He’s solid on that, plus pro-life. Rick Perry stands in opposition to inside the Beltway Washington elites, I don’t care what party they are. I would like to see him get in this.”

I am awaiting the entrance of the person that I hope to support. Right now... the only candidates that I would rather slide down a 50 foot razor blade into cool pool of alcohol rather than vote for... are santorum, pawlenty, huntsman, gingrich, Paul and willard the rat turd romney. I do not support Perry but I will not state right now that I wouldn't vote for him... if he is all that I have to vote for. Hell I voted for Bush and mccain... one is quite similar to Perry and one was far worse... the one that was far worse being juan mcnasty. I will NEVER vote for another mccain... Perry is not there but I have to tell you... the more that I learn... the closer to mccrazy he gets.

He is in it... he has plenty of opportunity ahead to show himself to America. I am not against him running... but he has problems... some that the others do not and some the others share... but he will not be ordained... he will have to earn it... something his supporters can never do for him.

And to the non-political “independent” voter, he looks too much like the Brolin villain in “True Grit.”

Remember that the Mexican population (in Mexico) doubled between 1970 and 2000. This is the Democrats dream, not only are they Dem voters but they are very fertile, having children in their mid-teens. We cannot keep up with that. Our children will never have a say in their country ever again.

If so many middle-of-the-road clueless Republicans did not vote for McCain in the primaries, then we wouldn’t have had to vote for him in the finals. That was a really hard choice— the dufus or the marxist.

Unfortunately, he is not against the inside-the-Austin-beltway illegal alien promoting special interests. Perry is just warming up, he is playing hard to get to drive up his price.

democrats voting for mccain in states where it was legal for them to do so... elected mccain. If not for those dims voting in our primaries... he would have lost. The party of stupid failed to fix this major flaw... actually they refused to fix it.

Nothing wrong with that!!!! Not one thing, good deal. I enjoy Mark Levin's comments on his days with Reagan.

I think they have their reasons for not fixing the independent vote problem. Their real concern is that people like you and I get to vote in the primaries.

Levin was commenting that he and Rush were texting each other during the debates. They are close. Both are wonderful assets and entertaining.
