Issa Hopes White House Official Aware of Fast and Furious Will Testify

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said on a conference call Wednesday evening that he will try to get a White House official who may have had knowledge of the botched Fast and Furious gunrunning operation to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

But Issa, who chairs the committee, was not optimistic about the effort. “Try? Yes,” he said, asked whether he would try to get the official into his committee room. But Issa noted that there has been “political interference at the highest level” throughout the Oversight committee’s Fast and Furious investigation.

The White House official in question is National Security Director for North America Kevin O’Reilly. During a Tuesday Oversight hearing on Fast and Furious, former ATF Special Agent Bill Newell, who was instrumental in implementing the operation, said that he had spoken with O’Reilly about Fast and Furious as early as September 2010. Whether O’Reilly was made aware that the ATF had let guns cross the border into Mexico as part of the investigation was not clear.

Newell’s admission is the first indication that White House officials were aware of the Fast and Furious program while it was ongoing. The email was leaked to the Oversight Committee by a whistleblower, Issa said; it was not released willingly by the White House.

CBS News reported on the details of the message on Wednesday:

Congressional investigators obtained an email from Newell to O’Reilly in September of last year in which Newell began with the words: “you didn’t get this from me.”

“What does that mean,” one member of Congress asked Newell, ” ‘you didn’t get this from me?’ ”

“Obviously he was a friend of mine,” Newell replied, “and I shouldn’t have been sending that to him.”

Newell told Congress that O’Reilly had asked him for information.

“Why do you think he asked for that information,” Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) asked Newell.

“He was asking about the impact of Project Gunrunner to brief people in preparation for a trip to Mexico… what we were doing to combat firearms trafficking and other issues.”

The White House is too busy destroying the American economy to pay attention to domestic scandals...

Perhaps I should say the MSM is too busy destroying the American economy..

Absolutely. Where’s the accountability?????

Issa’s been on them very well, even in the face of obstructionsm. I think he should be in front of the cameras every few days with a summary...if the DOJ or WH continues stalling/obstructing, people need to know that!!!

I’m hoping he was misquoted on the word ‘hope’...unless he backs it up with formal subpoena if the cooperation doesn’t come voluntarily..

Darrell.. you have subpoena power. Use it. Don’t “hope” anything when it comes to dealing with the enemy.

And, face it... they ARE the enemy.

Cmon Issa. You have the power to subpeona him. Do it. My guess is that he will have no recollection at which point you trot out the emails to refresh his memory. The bottom line is that there is a coverup under way. Start making the people perpetuating the coverup provide answers.

faced with a big, mean libtard goliath,

they melt away.

we need an opposition party with self-confidence and a commitment to the truth.

Yeah and I hope they'll handcuff themselves and throw themselves in jail for a long time too. NOTHING will come of this. These people can blatantly do whatever they wish and ain't nobody going to stop them. They are becoming bolder and bolder. By the end of the year this will be a distant, forgotten memory. I applaud the effort but the forces of evil now control too big a segment of power; the balance has tipped. This can only be solved in the streets.

True, that's exactly why the "hope" word was used. But by going public with the incriminating e-mails that originated in the White House, as well as already recorded testimony describing the organized pressure that's been put on ATF non-political appointees, a case is coming together for a Special Prosecutor to be appointed to investigate a criminal conspiracy to obstruct justice (for people my age that has a very familiar ring).

However, issuing a subpoena and letting the WH claim executive privilege might also help move that process forward. It could also (though I wouldn't hold my breath over it) help move this story from page 10 to page 3 or even page 1 on the national news screen.

The probability of that traitor testifying is -100. Even if he wants to, he will not see that truck bearing down on his miserable ass.

Really, who the F**k cares if the White House knew or ordered it. Start putting some asses in jail and I’ll be Issa and Grassley get to the bottom of this thing in a quick hurry. Once one person starts doing time, that will start the domino effect of those looking for some immunity deal.

“Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said on a conference call Wednesday evening that he will try to get a White House official who may have had knowledge of the botched Fast and Furious gunrunning operation to testify”

Fat chance. The coverup is in full swing with 99% of the media helping.

Which was a more serious abuse of power?

A-Nixon aides breaking into Watergate.

B-obama arming drug cartels with military grade weapons.

Libs would choose A hands down.
