Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Monday that President Barack Obama “would be impeached” if the nation falls into default.

“STOP talking about default,” he wrote on Twitter. “The 1st dime of each $1 of revenue services debt. Obama would be impeached if he blocked debt payments. C C & B!”

Wouldn’t this be a spectacle?

He’d probably invoke Martial Law and round up his opposition.

You know, to save America.

There are more than enough votes in the House to impeach the President.

There may or may not be enough votes in the Senate to remove him from office.

The Constitution mandates that the United States promptly pay it's debts so if the President chooses to default on our $20 billion per month debt, especially with $200 billion dollars per month in revenue, there certainly will be valid grounds for impeachment.

If things really get sideways, it might be a good thing for the idea of impeachment to be raised but there is virtually no way our Treasury will default on it's debt.

It's also hard to see Social Security checks not being delivered.

The real outcome here is going to be any and all budget cuts by the President will be targeted towards putting as much pain as possible on the middle class and doing it in such way as to point blame towards the Republicans. The economy is already slowing as the sugar high of the Stimulus spending wears off and Obama will try to blame this inevitable economic slow down on the Republicans and their fiscal polices

Of course, the Republicans are not blame here. There are going to be cuts, steep ones in fact, regardless of what budget deal is agreed upon because we are simply out of money and the rest of the world is losing interest in buying US Treasury Debt at effective negative interest rates when the US Government's spending is so out of control that default is inevitable in the near term future if spending is not brought back into control. But you can bet The Democrats will try to pin this on the Republicans and they are already posturing to do so

He should have been impeached long before this, sometime in mid-November of 2010. I agree with those on here who point out that it’s one thing to impeach a popular president like Clinton, and yet another to impeach an unpopular (alleged-) president facing election. Has there ever been a president up for election while facing impeachment proceedings who won?

“Clinton was impeached, made not a bit of difference, did it.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Tricky Dick Nixon was threatened with impeachment and resigned before any action was taken, Slick Willy Clinton was impeached but was not convicted and removed from office by the senate. Now there are millions of Americans who think they know that Nixon was impeached and Clinton was not.

Nixon is no hero of mine but he did have the decency to resign and not put the nation through the misery of impeachment. Clinton would not resign and would have had to be dragged kicking and screaming from the oval office had the senate convicted him. Who do most Americans see as being the better man and better president? One guess allowed.

Yeah, and so many dem presidents are getting impeached these days, its not even a stigma anymore...

I do think it would be remiss of the Congress not to impeach in this case...but I would not want a conviction at this point...Biden scares me more than the magic Won.

Maybe King’s statement on default is why OBAMA is always on TV whining to get this done, but it does not explain the lack of cooperation the conservatives are getting from him.

I told someone today, if zero and Geitner do not pay elderly, disabled, and vets, it is intended to start a revolution, whereby he can evoke martial law...he is upset, that Boehner isn’t bowing down to his dictatorship attitude.

The vision of her with the copious notes all around her while trying to make sense of what Dennis Kichinich (sp)was saying, the whole scene is hilarious. I would love to meet your Mom. I used to love working in the dementia ward at the retirement center when I was chaplain there. My “girls” were so sweet and so confused. It was a challenge, but I cried when I had to leave that job.

“Why do RINO’s rub their eyes when they wake up in the morning? Because they don’t have any balls to scratch.”

RINO’s are not lacking balls. They lack desire to achieve any conservative results. They vote just the way they want to.

Hate to say it but impeachment is a waste of time if we can’t convict.

Here's my philosophy on the matter.

You do what is right, you do what you can, and you let the chips fall where they may.

I say, impeach the bastard and let the pathetic Senate save the hapless, miserable, piteous, pitiable, pitiful, sorry excuse for an American President.

All that said, a Boehner congress doesn't have the stones to do it.

Don't tease me. Reid and Pelosi go re-elected, what makes anybody on God's green earth think that anything will happen to Zero before election day?

You would love her. She is such a sweetheart. And I say that at the end of a day where she put me through the wringer about twenty times. Most days are a piece of cake though ... for now.

She would be a perfect trap for a photo-oping politician. Just when you think she couldn't put two and two together she will say something, about current politics no less, that just cuts to the heart of it.
