FReeper gulfcoast6 Has Passed Away
July 24, 2011 | prairiebreeze

Posted on 07/24/2011 12:54:49 PM PDT by prairiebreeze

Word has come that FReeper gulfcoast 6 has passed away. Toby was a regular member of the America The Right Way thread, and was a FReeper in good standing since 1999.

Toby had many friends on this forum and his wise, gentle posts and warm humor will be sorely missed. He has gone to his glory in Christ and joins his wife Treva who preceeded him in death and whom he lovingly posted about after her death.

Toby loved God, his dear family (who he proudly posted about often) and his friends. We will all miss him and look forward to the time we see him again in Eternity.

Rest In Peace, dear FRiend.

thanks for carrying the obit & pix over Jem. He was a very handsome man in his youth & quite a looker even into his 70s. But the best looking part of him was his heart of gold!

Hat tip to Jemian. I have seen this a couple times on the “American the Right Way” thread and pings but I haven’t seen it pinged out to gulfcoast6’s Mississippi FRiends. RIP Toby.

Obituary for gulfcoast6. Toby Wood, 75, born March 26, 1936, in Greenville, MS, passed away on July 23, 2011, in Saucier.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife, Treva Nell Wood; his parents Alice and Tobe Wood; and his sister, Alie Ann Fant. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Moore of Saucier, and Tracy Alfonso and her husband Terry of Saucier; five grandchildren, Toby Collier, Zachary Moore, Allie Alfonso, Trevar Alfonso, Caleb Toby Alfonso; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Moore, and John Moore.

Toby was a man of honor who loved the Lord, his country, and his family. His life was devoted to serving others through his military service and extensive law enforcement career. He began with the Greenville Police Dept. where he set records with arrests and solved several high profile case. He then became Chief of Police in the cities of Belzoni and Pearl. In 1973 and 1974 he served as president of the MS Chiefs of Police. Toby stood for Civil Rights in the MS Delta by fighting the KKK earning the respect of the black community. He attended The Federal Bureau of Narcotics School in Washington D.C. and The Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Ky. He was a member of The International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association.

He was ahead of his time with his efforts to help keep kids off drugs by speaking to youth groups all over the country on the dangers of drugs. In the early 1970’s he helped to write the drug laws for the state of MS. He also pushed for the formation of the MS Bureau of Narcotics.

After retiring from law enforcement, he owned Wood Investigative Services and DST America. In his last years, Toby lived his life in the country, riding his tractor, loving to help the neighbors by cutting their yards. He was most happy being Paw Paw and spending all his time bringing joy to his grandchildren and all those around him.

A great man has gone to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Treva. They spent 43 years together on earth and now have eternity with each other. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and church family.

This breaks my heart. I am so sad to hear that such a dear, sweet, and very macho, man is gone from us.

How often do you see those three adjectives together?

But, that was Toby.

He has certainly left his mark in this world. It has been carried on through his daughters, and will be carried on through his grandchildren.

I know how much he missed his wife, and am so thankful that he’s with her again.

RIP you sweet warrior. I thank you for every thing you’ve done to leave this world a better place than you found it.

Jemian. Thanks for posting this. We knew Toby as a regular guy and a nice person. Who knew what a significant impact he had on his state and country!

That is one of the special aspects of Free Republic. We meet on common ground as equals and share aspects of our life as we wish.

Godspeed, Toby! Rest in Peace...you have mightily earned it!

Many of us have been wondering what happened since Toby was in relatively good health and active on Thursday. Today we have learned from his daughter that Toby died peacefully in his sleep.

Thank you for posting a “younger” Toby. There’s an empty spot in FR right now. Miss him.

Thank you for sharing that Toby died peacefully in his sleep, Jemian. I’m glad the family was home at the time and assume found him right away. He was active up to the end and deserved a peaceful death. Rest in peace, Toby.

My sympathy to his family who will miss him greatly.
