WAVERLY, Tenn. - The beating apparently didn't stop when the man seen on video being beaten by Humphreys County deputies arrived at the jail, according to witnesses.
This is among the incidents the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation are now looking into in connection with the January beating of Darrin Ring.
The FBI and TBI served federal grand jury subpoenas to the sheriff's department. Those subpoenas could include jailers, deputies and Sheriff Chris Davis, as well as all records, files and computers.
Larry Barbee is one of two inmates who has told the TBI that Ring was beaten and Tasered in jail while shackled.
"We're in a four-man cell and right across the hall is a single cell. We have a window that we can see outside in the hallway," said Barbee in an exclusive interview with Channel 4 News. "We heard a big commotion going on. They bring Darrin in and it was like four or five deputies, the sheriff was one of them, and they've got Darrin wrapped in a blanket, dragging him down the hall."
Ring was still not dressed after deputies stripped off his clothes in the initial attack at his home.
"The sheriff was over here and had his hands on the cement bench and was going down with his knee over and over," said Barbee, demonstrating the sheriff's actions. "Deputy Tim Hedge was standing on top of Darrin's head."
Barbee said a young female jailer entered the area and told a Waverly police officer, Kinta Bell, that she had never seen anyone Tased. That officer then Tasered Ring.
"Officer [Joe] Parnell goes in there and grabs him by the head, tells him to stand up at first," said Barbee. "He can't stand up because his hands are handcuffed to his feet. He can't stand up."
"[Parnell] keeps telling him to [stand up] and he said he can't. So he grabbed his head and rammed it into the wall, and then Officer Bell comes in from behind and Tases him."
Barbee is in jail on charges of making meth with the intent of resale. He is one of two inmates who made statements to the TBI and were then moved to the Dickson County Jail.
Waverly Police Chief David Daniel said his department is not making any comment until the investigation is complete.
"We are cooperating completely," said Daniel. "Rumors are rampant and we need a resolution for the entire incident."

No mention anywhere that this fellow actually did ANYTHING. I find it hard to believe that any cops would just randomly do this.
Really? Did you know that Tennessee has a history of hiring police officers will felony backgrounds?

It looks more and more like these deputies let their anger get out of control with this guy, and if the allegations are true, then they should be sanctioned accordingly.
Nor does it mention that one of the deputies appears to have suffered some kind of blow to the head trying to subdue the guy, nor that two other deputies spent nearly 15 minutes trying to control him until he was tazed.
Surprise - a TV station editing a video to make the story more sensational.
What happened after the first tazing became excessive force, IMO, but it wasn't like this guy didn't escalate the conflict with his actions. He has had several incidents of drunken behavior in the past, such as a DUI and going into someone else's home.
Police should have to follow the same rules as us.
This sense of "us against them" is biulding a wall between the citiaens and police. The police will find that if the SHTF the people will not stand with them and will assume that most police will side with government. It did not use to be this way and it is a shame that is turning this way.
Here in Middle Tennessee, a week doesn’t go by without some law enforcement person getting busted for something.
On the tape as shown he was just standing there and did not seem to be moving when the group of Peace Officers jumped on him. Whatever he might have done before he was pretty peaceable at that moment. Police are generally not supposed to give themselves to vengeance and retaliation for insults that happened earlier. They are supposed to retain some pretense of professionalism.
Like I said, it's not the first time a TV station has edited a video to make the story more sensational.

Don’t manufacture, deal or use meth in Humphreys County unless you are suicidal because the sheriff will stomp your butt into the cement.
For every case where there is a witness willing to tell your side of the story there’s twenty where they’ll say, “Nope, never saw nuttin’, Judge”.
His hands are in his pockets but he is still just standing there. And I see no signs of resistance after he is down and gets beaten repeatedly. Perhaps he called the cops SOBs and they felt “threatened” by that. Then they should have just shot him I suppose. I should commend them on their restraint, I guess. With no dog to shoot, they only beat the man and beat him and beat him some more, they didn’t exercise their right to shoot him.

We must have watched different videos. From what I saw and heard, he continued to struggle with officers and it appears one took some kind of blow to the head.
Alas for you it was the witness in another cell who was charged with meth. The guy here, Ring, was charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. So you solution is sort of moot isn’t it?
Yeah, I suppose it is but manufacturing, dealing or using meth is one sure sign of being a fool, IMO.
In that case this fool just may deserve his Darwinism treatment. How stupid does one have to be to think they can take on a whole county’s worth of LEO’s? I have only been falling down drunk a couple of times in my life, once when I was 17 and again at 19, but never did I ever imagine I was a Superman.
Again the guy beaten was not accuse of any meth crime. The only way meth came into the article is one of the two witnesses in the four person cell opposite was accused of something to do with meth.
So while you may like a good police beating when every you can get one, you can not use your weak meth excuse on this one.
The guy was cuffed, stripped naked and for 14 minutes the cops beat him and tazed him until half his ribs were broken...

This guy was not charged with any drug related offense... you are injecting something into this story that simply does not exist in a weak attempt to justify the unjustifiable...

In #15 I wrongly concluded this was a meth susupect.
In #19 I repeated my belief that dealing in meth is something only fools would do falsely expecting that you would realize that I now knew that Darrin Ring was not charged under that code.
Apparently I did not state clearly enough for you and JLS to comprehend that I now knew Darrin Ring was not charged under the Tennessee criminal code for a violation concerning the manufacturing, dealing or using of Methamphetamine.
Darrin Ring evidently did not understand that one of the many things you should do immediately or attempt to do immediately is whatever an officer of the law orders you to do. Your inaction to do what an officer says can result in your being wounded by gunfire or even your death. You might be tazed or as in this case, get the living snot beat out of you by the men in blue with a badge on their chest. Judges have an absolutely amazing record of supporting whatever these men do no matter how much citizens protest. If an officer says, “I was concerned for my safety” those words give him permission to do almost anything including shooting your dog, cat, parakeet or feeble grandparents. These are facts which Darrin Ring now knows, I am certain.

What part of being in a jail cell and having the cops come back and tase and beat you don’t you get? This case has nothing to do with meth which you did not understand at first and this case has little to do with the arrest of this man.
If you have a person in custody and go back to their cell and tase them for the benefit of a woman who has never seen someone tased before, YOU ARE A CRIMINAL. I do not have too high degree of respect for the Judiciary, but mine is certainly higher than yours. I suspect neither a judge nor a jury will be very amused at going police officer going into a cell and abusing a person in custody, but you apparently differ. I guess we shall see.

Are you truthfully so f’n ignorant to think I am not aware of what the LEO’s did was unlawful? The cops will be protected to the maximum levels that the blue line can protect them then after that they’re on their own. My level of respect for the Judiciary sunk into the mud many years ago when they became the Just Us Court.
Ok, I stand corrected on your view of the entire system. I tend to agree that it is really them against us in their minds and sadly in and out of the system all the time criminals are seem also to be part of the them.

Stubborn + stubborn = trouble.
The deputies were right to prioritize their safety, but by wrestling Mr Pocket Pool to the ground, it’s seems the risk of trouble was increased substantially.
The deputy could have drawn his sidearm, have his buddy help detain Mr Pool with cuffs, then give Pocket a timeout in the back of the patrol car.
And what if Pool refused to comply with a drawn gun? On another thread, it was posted that this guy has a long history of bad drunken behavior, including DUI, going into another person's home and getting arrested for it (which implies he wouldn't leave when requested) and trying to divert traffic when drunk. He also called 911 on one occasion to report a werewolf chasing cars, which implies that booze ain't the only thing he's injesting.
In other words, he is an out-of-control idiot who is probably too stupid to realize that a drawn gun on him is a very serious matter.
I went to the trouble of finding the entire, unedited video and watched it and transrcibed it. From what I could see, the moron escalated an in-control situation by being his usual idiot self by taking his hands out of his pockets and then putting them right back in - repeatedly - which is what got him tackled in the first place (a detail edited out of the TV news video linked above). And then it appears he continued to put up a struggle for nearly 15 minutes - and it also appears a deputy took a blow to the head, as he leaves the scrum and then later is seen holding a towel to his head as if to staunch bleeding. And then the idiot (true to form), stripped and handcuffed, refused to roll over. That is when he got tased. After that point, I think the kicking and clubbing was not to subdue him but instead was the cops taking their anger out on him, and that is when it because excessive, and it might well have been the case that the initial tasing made him unable to roll over, making subsequent tasings just punishment - however, given that he had failed to comply to any request to that point, he pretty much set himself up for multiple tasings AFAIC. And the beatings and tasings in the jail, if true, are even worse, because the sheriff was involved and the cops would have had time to cool their anger - but instead carried it over.
