I’d love to see a breakdown by gender of those who were really into it. Those threads on FR got a couple of thousand posts in a day! I’m not saying it wasn’t interesting for some men, just not me, and I am male. I would guess that more women than men were really into it, but I reckon I could be wrong.

What Is the Fascination With Casey Anthony?

It's a media event meant to deny oxygen to the GunWalker scandal.

What is the fascination with Jack the Ripper, the Black Dahlia, the Zodiac, Jeff Dahmer, the Uni Bomber, the Clutter family murders that sparked In Cold Blood, Jeffrey McDonald?

Ask people who write crime novels if they can sell their books.

There is a huge amount of interest in the who, what, when, where, how, and why.

Diabolical stories about diabolical people. They may be bad, but how they act is interesting.

That simple.

I say use this situation to our advantage.

Most of the people who are so mad about this verdict, are mad at the jury. We need to use this anger to educate!

When your non-political, or feel good liberal friend/relative comments on how the jury didn't use common sense, reply “Now you know how I feel when it comes to politics.” We keep seeing the electorate (jury) elect corrupt politician after corrupt politician. The electorate seems to not understand they have a responsibility to know both sides of every argument, and a duty to follow the Constitution. Of course, if they don't agree, make them a challenge. I will tell you, without snark, why most voted for Barak Obama, you tell me, without snark, why I voted for Sarah Palin. They won't be able to do it.

I am so sick and tired of this circus act that I could scream. It isn’t hard to understand why I rarely watch the media acts on TV.

Wise or conservative people realize there there will always be tragedies and injustices in the world, most of them local matters of no actual importance to most people’s lives.

In the past, these matters were local, and unnoticed by the multitudes.

Now, they are an infectious distraction from what it important. Prurient interest only.

One of my pastor friends gave a sermon last Sunday as part of a series of living the life that God wants us to live. He used the analogy of our minds being like our bodies, requiring solid, nutritious food, but being in the presence of junk food and poisons. Material such as the Casey Anthony case are junk food; pornography, poison. Solid food includes the Word of God and other material that educates and uplifts our minds.

I have been driving to work the last two weeks with a handful of CDs I have burned from broadcasters such as BBC Radio 4 (In Our Time, Start the Week, Thinking Allowed, the Play of the Week, and Friday Night Comedy), Australia Radio National (StarStuff, All in the Mind, the Philosopher's Zone, and Ockham’s Razor), the VOA Science Show and the Making of a Nation, and Earth and Sky. I also download and burn the Lutheran Hour and Our Daily Bread. A CD lasts about one commute, and I have been able to learn considerably. Now I'm burning good articles in science and literature as well.

The Bible is also on CD, thanks be to God.

The NEXT car I get will have the ability to put in a flash drive, but I don't begrudge the cost in CDs. It's like eating steak after the mindless candy of radio in this country. Even talk radio is not as educational as solid articles written by smart people.

Because we’re the same people who enjoy reading true crime and trial stories. It happens to be our choice and our taste.

This case has been like a big, gory traffic accident. You know that what has been seen can’t be unseen...but you look anyway.

What is the fascination with Casey Anthony?

That isn't the right question. It isn't just this little girl that America and the world get fixated on. Remember Natalie Holloway? Nicole Simpson?

We will be fed, electronically, one dead female after the other. The appetite is insatiable, and the delivery system is relentless and remorseless.

That is one reason I quit television about 12 years ago. Ain't been back since.

People are fascinated, because we each live difficult and very trying lives. But in this home, which looks fairly average, things turned tragically wrong.

We want to know exactly what happened, so we can know if it could happen in our particular family, or to someone in our extended family or to friends at work or in the neighborhood.

It is a very “micro level” human story.

It does none of these. Watching the Casey Anthony saga or any other tabloid tail is a squandering of your life. It is a misdirection of your mental energies.

Which is why I don't watch 'the boob tube' and haven't in decades. I believe I am a better man for it...

The Powers-that-be simply would rather that We the People have as many Casey Anthony stories as possible...preferably far away in Florida or California -to examine in lurid detail...than to focus on the nonsense in DC.

What is the facination?

For the Media: they don’t have to do stories on Gun Runner, and the ATF head going states evidence, or the bad jobless numbers.

For the Sheeple: They can pretend that everything is normal and go back to dancing in the Ballroom of the Titanic.

The Peoploe have to Freep...

In early 2009, Rios married Bruce Rather, a Chicago-based lawyer.

Mind your own business, Sandy.

Ms. Sandy Rios, former President of Concerned Women for America, and a leading self-appointed protector of the sanctity of all marriages everywhere.

(Well, except for her own. As Tammy Wynette might have discretely intone, Sandy is D I V O R C E D.)
