BTW, I'm totally ignorant on a "clip" versus "magazine". Please help me.

This picture shows a detachable rifle magazine on the left and a “Stripper” Clip on the right

The stripper clip is used to refill the magazine in a rapid manner by placing the one end of stripper clip in mouth of the magazine and pressing down with the thumb on the rounds forcing them in to the magazine.

The emptied stripper clip is then removed from the magazine. The magazine is then ready to load in to the rifle.

Generally speaking a Magazine is a storage place for ammunition. The term is very old and has it origins in the days of fortifications and wooden war ships. Clip

LOL!! I just read that the guy who reported this story was replying to the people on the message boards for that site about the clip/magazine thing:

To kteaton, Thank you for your response but I did not “adamantly” state clip is the correct term. As I wrote in the post, clip is the word used both by the the man in the barber shop and the police investigating. (I interviwed both on-scene off-camera.) If they (police & shooter) say he emptied his clip should I correct them at the shooting scene and say, “I’m sorry you actually emptied your magazine.” Same thing for “auto”, it’s the common term that was used on scene by Detroit Police and the man in the barber shop. Yes I understand the distinction of semi-auto and full-auto. As I wrote “clearly we are not discussing a full auto, Tommy Gun, etc.” Thanks for watching and thanks for your followup interest. I would like to have been there to see the reporter correct a cop on his use of firearm nomenclature.

But he is correct the term clip is commonly misused.
