In 2007, a suburban Houston, Texas, resident named Joe Horn spotted a couple of burglars at his neighbor’s home. He called 911 and asked a dispatcher if he should stop them with his shotgun. The dispatcher told him to sit tight.
“Ain’t no property worth shooting somebody over, OK?” the dispatcher said, according to published reports of the 911 call.
That wasn’t OK with Horn, who noted that the “laws had been changed” in Texas, and that he had a right to protect himself.
“I’m gonna kill ’em,” he told the dispatcher.
And he did, with three shotgun blasts to the back as they crossed his yard with a bag of stolen goods. He was never charged with any crime related to the killings.
The law that Horn was talking about is the “castle doctrine” statute, many versions of which are sweeping the nation. The law holds that the home is a castle, and any man or woman can take whatever means they deem fit to protect it. In Texas, the castle doctrine law covers not only the home, but also anywhere a person has “a right to be.”

Property is part of your life, gained at the expense of time and sweat. If someone steals your property, they are taking part of your life.

Running out or walking in, either way if you are in a place that does not belong to you and you are in the middle of committing a crime...you are wrong.

Well, I can't think of a downside to it.
It would most likely thin and dilute the gene pool for the pieces of human excrement that decide to go into one's home and take one's possessions or do any manner of things to the person there.
I suppose, of course, there is always the problem of a future POTUS or a leader of some sort being eliminated before he had a chance to excel...or something.

If people enter your home when you are there ,to rob you, it must be assumed that if you object they are willing to kill or hurt you.
People who are willing to kill or harm me or my wife in my own home will not be leaving it alive if I can prevent it. They may return, and what do I do then?
Conversations with the 911 dispatcher should be much more concise and less conversational.

Hmm. According to this logic the Democratic party is a criminal conspiracy -- what does it stand for other than stealing property through taxation for the sake of redistribution?
Amen to that brother. All the “retreat” requirement did was embolden human predators. Every state with right to carry laws has lower crime rates than those who think one’s personal property is worthless.
I once had a possum that would raid my outside work shop (partially open) and would disappear when I'd show up, of course.
So, I set out bait, hoping that he'd come in while I was there.
He did.
One .22 round later, I was rid of the critter.
Now, I'm not advocating baiting...not me, never...but one does what one must do.
Of course, if you don't remove the bait after you have rid yourself of the critter, then it's open season, I guess.
Seriously, I got your point...but the fact remains, I will not live my life in fear of whether or not a piece of excrement will attempt to rob or hurt me.
I won't give him the chance to leave and then later return.
And I think that's the way it should be.

I would have a hard time shooting some idiot teenager who was stealing gas from my fuel tank.Intruders in the house will be shot if I can manage it.So I guess that it’s a matter of threat levels with me.
Agreed, I live in Tx and was a little surprised he was cleared. The application of the Castle Law varies from county to county dependent on local DA.
Joe Horn was within his rights, but his chatter did not help his case.
You forget the other principle of the Democrat party is killing babies in the womb.
I agree with that statement Farmer Dean. Something that crosses my mind is, "would I want to kill this stupid kid and possibly send his soul to Hell, when there is a chance he might repent of his sinful ways and be saved?".
Then again, some people need killing. If you doubt that, go to the Texas Dept. of Corrections website and read the descriptions of the crimes committed by those on death row.

Au contraire. Since lawyers and federal judges have decided to infringe on the rights of the individual States to execute murderers, and prisons are overflowing with violent and property criminals, it is the best thing for society to provide for immediate execution of those in the commission of a serious felony.
Bullets cannot be appealed by crafty lawyers to first the State District judge, then a panel of three judges from the Federal District Court, then to the entire Federal District Court, and then to the SCOTUS, again and again, over any number of petty issues most of which are heard by judges looking for an excuse to overturn the death penalty solely because they personally don’t *like* the death penalty.
Instead, when a murderer or violent or property criminal is ventilated, and they have vital organ failure or bleed out, the citizenry has won.
It is the best thing for society.
And if the perpetrators are illegal aliens solely in the US to commit crimes, or from out of State and unaware that what they are doing could very well get them killed, well, tough.
I have a Utah CCW and on the training class info sheet was info by a Los Angeles officer about what to do after a home invasion/shooting. It went something like this:
Don't guess or assume - the recording may be used against you. Best answer: "I don't know" - i.e. "Is he dead?", "Does he have an accomplice?", etc.
One eye opener was the advice to get everybody out of the house, drive a block away, make the call and tell 'em you're out of your house and where you are. The rationale being that when the cops come with drawn guns, they will suspect ANYBODY who is in the house and might shoot.

Until we make it worth their while to NOT steal from us, they are going to be empowered to do it. An ounce of prevention.....
