Bachmann consultant Ed Rollins: Palin hasn’t been serious for years
Hot Air ^ | June 7, 2011 | Allahpundit

Posted on 06/07/2011 1:53:00 PM PDT by Graneros

Via the Daily Caller and Politico, if jabs like this are already being thrown before Palin’s even in the race, how brutal will things be in six months when the two of them and Herman Cain are battling for the grassroots vote in Iowa? Good lord.

It’s going to be a long, hot, nasty summer, my friends.

“Sarah has not been serious over the last couple of years,” Rollins told Brian Kilmeade on his radio show, Kilmeade and friends. “She got the Vice Presidential thing handed to her, she didn’t go to work in the sense of trying to gain more substance, she gave up her governorship.”…

“Michele Bachmann and others [have] worked hard, she has been a leader of the Tea Party which is a very important element here, she has been an attorney, she has done important things with family values.”

“She is probably the best communicator [in the GOP field] now that Mike Huckabee’s not in there,” he said.

That’s from Ben Smith, who describes Rollins as Bachmann’s new “top consultant” even though it sounds from yesterday’s CBS scoop like he’ll actually be managing her campaign. This isn’t the first time Rollins has derided Palin, either; remember this op-ed for CNN in December where he described her as a “gadfly” and told her, “If you want to be a serious presidential candidate, get to work”? At the time, it looked like he was tearing her down in advance of another Huckabee run. Now that Huck’s out, he’s landed with her other chief competitor. I was skeptical of that Politico piece a few weeks ago alleging a quiet feud between the two sides, but Rollins’s comments fit the description of Team Bachmann’s outlook perfectly: “[E]ach camp views the other with a level of suspicion, with some of Palin’s supporters seeing Bachmann as a B-list version of their icon, and some in Bachmann’s camp regarding Palin as a short-timer without Bachmann’s record or tenure.” Which raises the question, did Bachmann hire Rollins in spite of his criticisms of Palin — or because of them?

Michelle had best put a muzzle on Ed Rollins. Bashing Sarah Palin is not going to win her any friends. If this is Rollin's idea of running a good campaign maybe Michelle should be putting out the help wanted shingle.

I don’t like sleazy politics and this coming from Michele Bachmann is really surprising..I expected different from her, this is her guy..if she has something to say about Sarah she should say it to her face, or say it herself, not have her hired goon do it for her

Bachmann lied to get reelected and then she voted for the Patriot Act.

That should have been the first sign.

Now she hires this Huckabee-RINO hack to attack Palin. Weird.

I used to really think a lot of Bachmann...

I don’t now. If she can’t pick better consultants than this, who’s only job is to insult Governor Palin, I don’t trust Bachmann’s judgement.

I let her office know it too, and no more donations for her.

Did you who agree, let her know?

Michelle had best put a muzzle on Ed Rollins.

Ed has a decent track record. Reagan '84 comes to mind. You don't get "Walking Around Money" Rollins on your campaign to have him shut up. He is an old school hand to hand combat guy. Ed also doesn't have an off switch. He just keeps going when someone is talking to him. Always entertaining and hard core for whoever he is working for. This should be interesting.

You have to love these old timers. They really did the job for Reagan in '84.

At least in the Flim Flam Florio case, he waited until after the election to open his pie hole and brag.

Your right on that....Palin has not attacked Bachmann, but with Rolins on her team, Bachmann is in for a surprise. I think she will lose votes with him and his style of work..He must figure Palin is her toughest competitor or he wouldn't be attacking her....(could Romney be paying him under the table...:O)

“Michelle had best put a muzzle on Ed Rollins. Bashing Sarah Palin is not going to win her any friends.”

No. Right now I could and would support MB if she is the most conservative primary candidate, or the eventual nominee.

That could change. Allowing minions and toadies ala Rove or Rollins to attack conservatives -would- change that.

Two possibilities:

1. This is Bachmann's plan to take down Sarah Palin.

2. This is Ed Rollins plan to take down Sarah Palin.

Either way, if Bachmann's campaign continues in this vein then Michele is toast.

she gave up her governorship.”…

I hear E.R. charges a lot of money. And he leads with that limp argument? I'm not seeing his value.

“Michele Bachmann and others [have] worked hard, she has been a leader of the Tea Party which is a very important element here, she has been an attorney (we will try to not hold that against you Michelle), she has done important things with family values.”

Sarah Palin has not worked hard?

Sarah Palin has not been a leader in the TEA Party? She is the embodiment of the TEA Party!

Sarah Palin has not promoted Family Values?

Damn Michele! Hand Ed his paycheck on Friday, fire him and send him back to RINOville. Quick!

So it’s come to this. I’m disappointed in Michelle Backmann. I tried but I just can’t believe that whatever BS Ed Rollins is putting out there (about Sarah Palin) is being done without the imprimatur of his employer, Michelle Backmann. With all the crap Palin has taken from the left and to a lesser extent, from the GOP establishment, now we have some old-line political operator bashing Sarah Palin, essentially in Michelle Backmann’s name. Very discouraging and a definite turn-off for this conservative voter. Granted, I was a Palin supporter all along but if Sarah Palin chooses not to run, I was ready and willing to switch my allegiance - and my primary election vote - to Bachmann. Not any more . Maybe Herman Cain. Maybe someone else - but not Michelle Bachmann. Not now. Not ever.

An almost perfect slam-dunk. Rollins is 15 years behind the times. Rove is about 5 years behind the times. Rollins has no concept of social media, and Rove (barely) knows what Twitter and Facebook are.

Eddie will cripple Michelle's campaign.

It does seem odd since you’d think Bachmann would like to get Palin’s endorsement. This may indicate that Rollins feels Palin is going to run, and therefore needs to act that way.

Certainly if Palin was already in the race, this is exactly the kind of discussion other candidates are going to have.

Yesterday two pro-life heroes came together as Sarah Palin joined Rep. Michele Bachmann in Minnesota for a campaign rally. These two women are the rockstars of the pro-life movement and Susan B. Anthony List is thrilled to have a strong relationship with both of them.

Unless it is -intended- to damage MB, with sullying SP as a parallel or secondary objective. Moles? Why not? Voodoo Republicans are willing to do anything to maintain this broken status quo.

I will wait to see how MB handles this. It had better be soon, and it had better be dramatic. I will regard inaction or feeble action as approval of Rollins’ comments.

While it may not be pretty, certain candidates are going to have to differentiate themselves from their near alter egos. Nice and pretty isn't going to do that.

Whether it's the candidate(s) or their operatives it's has to and is going to happen. As the article noted, it's going to be interesting.

Bachmann’s record and tenure?

She’s served 5 years in Congress and has zero executive experience, yet she’s going to be the second sitting Congressman in history (and the first in 130 years) to be voted into the presidency?

Some FReeper posted here a month or two back that GOP insiders were behind getting her to run as a way to stop Palin. With this Rollins announcement and immediate attack, I believe it.
