For the fifth year in a row, crime is down in the United States, according to FBI Statistics. The 2010 statistics show a 5.5% drop in violent crimes from last year's report.

But parts of the country are getting worse.

Flint, Michigan -- the most violent city in America -- saw a 10% increase in violent crime over last year, with 2,208 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Rust Belt neighbor Detroit was only slightly safer

I don't get it. All these cities have large Amish populations. These should all be on the most peaceful list.

Words mean things. The work “Amish” means something.

It would be brave to use your real words.

Such a list should include bastions of liberalism such as Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, New Yoek City and Boston.

Ha-ha. Sure they do. I was surprised to not see New Orleans in this group. I live about 25 miles away from NOLA and haven't ventured down there since I retired in '99. I never felt comfortable going there.

The 2010 statistics show a 5.5% drop in violent crimes from last year's report.

I doubt the veracity of that number. Perhaps "violent crime" has been redefined (or underreported) to make the Usurper-in-Chief appear competent. That's the more likely narrative.

It is not the political bent of a city, but the racial makeup.
Crime is in direct proportion to the percentage of blacks.

I grew up in Memphis, and it was a fine city when the w/b ratio was 60/40.
It is now w40/b60 and the city has gone to hell, as the blacks have taken over all of the government.

I read a year or two ago that Memphis is now number one
in murder.

I’m rather surprised that neither Austin, Dallas nor Houston (Texas) were in the top 25. Although our state is Conservative, those three cities are in the death-grip of liberals. Even more amazing is that McAllen-Brownsville and/or El Paso weren’t included. Both of those cities are extremely liberal and overwhelmingly Messkin. The suburbs of Austin, Dallas and Houston are safe and home to a good number of Christian Conservatives (and quite a few FReepers, a couple of whom I’ve pinged).

Yes, it is a major problem with a strong racial component. But the stronger component is this: lack of respect for marriage and intact families.

The breakdown in black marriage and family precedes that of other races. But don't think that whites will not be as impacted, or fall as low. As long as marriage and family is disrespected, as long adulterers are cheered and tolerated in high office and positions of respect, single moms celebrated, and utter perversions such as homosexual marriage welcomed, these problems will get worse. And worse among all races and ethic groups.

Use the right words! It is not the Amish, please spare them that infamy by association. It is fatherless black males.

As A Black man who lives outside of Flint, I must say these comments are pretty much on target. Many but not all of the Black people in Flint either have given up or condone what is going on. You have a bunch of thugs most of them young Black men that have been raised mostly with no Male person in the household to show them what is actually normal. They were raised by Mothers who were either addicts, getting welfare, prostitutes, or all of the above. These hoods are the doing "all the were taught" ( or actually not taught at all) and all they know is how to cheat, lie, and steal. If anyone goes to the parent(s) of these thugs, that person is more likely than not to get serious threats or harm to them or their family. I think it must be noted that these idiots to not distinguish between color, they simply look for a chance to victimize someone. I still visit sometimes in Flint but its rare. Like I said these thugs do not care about anything, very much like a wild animals, that only know how to kill and the hell with anyone else

Many of the cities that have been at the top of the high crime rate list, have changed the way crimes are reported, redefined terms, reclassified crimes. For instance they could separate out all violent crimes committed by juveniles. I’m not saying that any city did that, just an example of how they manipulate the statistics.

I thought Bill Clintoon’s Midnight Basketball was supposed to cure the inner city crime rate? What, did someone steal all the basketballs.

No, it’s true. One day, a gang of them chased me through the streets of Flint. Fortunately, their horse-drawn buggies were no match for my Studebaker.

I, too, lived in Memphis in its glory days. I remember the first time I ever visited Memphis (coming from steel mill dusted Birmingham, AL)I felt like I was in some other world. The place was so clean. The lights so bright. The neighborhoods so at peace. I loved it.

When I finally moved there it was the same until Martin Luther King died and the decline started. Now Memphis “proper” is so bad that I wouldn’t let a pitbull run loose without a gun on its hip.

So sad...so sad. What I thought about the cities on this list and knowing other ones that some of us live in that we think are bad....I am wondering...MY GOD! How bad are they if they are worse than where I am now? Scary, scary times we live in.
