Maybe the husband made it out alive. Has anyone checked the Elko cathouses for him?

Cell phones & GPSs are nice, but for survival, the one essential tool is a knife.

Yup. Electronic gadgets can fail.

A compass and a map are important and most important of all — smarts. And warm clothing.

That may be true, except my husband has the same phone and does not have that problem. It must be my particular phone. Or my phone has its own mind, which I am beginning to think it does.

Recall the Kim family that got stuck in Southern Oregon a few years back?

On a road well marked with hazard signs, saying snow was NOT removed and the road could be impassable, they followed their GPS provided ‘shortcut’ into the hills. They got lost. Mr. Kim died after he left their out-of-fuel (of course they started INTO the woods with much less than a full tank) vehicle to get help.

REPORTEDLY, they burned their tires. ..at night...to keep warm.

Yes. Burning tires is a good idea. DO keep in mind that the POINT of that act is to be SEEN and subsequently FOUND.

While one would not think it necessary to have the INSTRUCTIONS for such an event molded into the tire carcass, you are NOT thinking clearly if you underestimate the stupidity of some persons.

Burn them during the day..in better weather if you have that choice...in the open. If you can do it when you hear low-flying aircraft, THAT would be brilliant!
