I think it's important to understand the enemy as much as possible. It seems that Osama was like some of the top Nazis, who did not personally like to commit mass murder but motivated others to do so. Under him were people who apparently were happy to perpetrate gruesome violence, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Ideas have consequences. People with bad ideas are dangerous.

The key thing about Osama, according to the article, is that he was devout. For a Muslim, being devout means following the precepts of a so-called "religion" which was never more than a cover for violence and conquest.

If I could invent a time machine, I'd go back to Vienna circa 1920 and buy art from a poor misunderstood young man who grew up to be Adolph Hitler.

OTOH, it just might be less risky to shoot the s.o.b.

Bad things would still happen.

Now that I have demonstrated just how geeky I am, I'm going to crawl back under my rock.

“Bin Laden lost his father when he was about 9.”

Oh, my, my...I just can’t stop sobbing.

Somebody should put game kiosks on ever corner in the country where you put in a quarter, grab the M-4, and fire a full clip into bin Laden.

If you had the capital, you could make a lot of money.

They should have had him stuffed and put on permanent display at the Smithsonian.

Wonder if David Brooks will be so kind as to write an obituary for Charles Manson, who also did not personally do the killings.

Brooks is one of the neoconservative opportunists who began to claim to be ‘conservative’ after the Reagan era meant that conservatism might equal influence.

Arianna Huffington and David Brock were two more who masqueraded as “conservatives” when it was convenient for them, and I’d add Frum to the list as well.

His father was killed by an American pilot? Deliberate or accidental? Never heard that before.

A Pink Cadillac?

In Sweden, no less.

The real irony is that as the photo shows, his family was/is quite westernized, and at least a few of his (many, wealthy) brothers and sisters now live in the West and are very moderate Muslims.

The very reason we had his DNA is through the cooperation of his siblings.

Here's the story of a guy who had the chance to shoot Hitler, didn't, and lived to regret it.

[. . .Bin Laden’s mother was about 15 at the time of his birth. Nicknamed “The Slave” inside the family, she was soon discarded and sent off. . .]

One theory for the cause of psychopathy is the permanent separation of an infant from his caregiver. Bin Laden could certainly pass for a psychopath.
