Can US Offer Final Proof Of Osama's Death?
Sky News/Yahoo News ^ | May 2, 2011 | Sky News

The circumstances surrounding Osama bin Laden's reported death raise urgent questions over how the US is so sure it got its man.

US officials have said DNA testing has proved the al Qaeda leader was killed in a villa in Pakistan.

They have also identified him by facial recognition.

But photographs of Bin Laden after his reported death have not been released.

The release of a photograph purporting to show bin Laden's corpse - which was later confirmed to be a fake - added to the confusion.

Journalists have not yet had the opportunity to ask more than a few questions of the Obama administration about details of Bin Laden's death.

The announcement is not the first time the world has heard of Bin Laden's death. Claims that the US and Britain kept up a pretence he was alive in order to continue their war on terror have been dismissed as conspiracy theories.

It has been suggested that bin Laden died nearly 10 years ago during the battle for Tora Bora in Afghanistan, either from a US bomb or from kidney disease.

The picture I referenced was deleted from this thread. Perhaps the text contained something wrong, I don’t know. The picture showed the tail of the copter on a 8’ wall, and the back end was surrounded on the outside of the wall by a cloth partition of some kind.

“I don’t believe a word that comes out of Obama’s mouth but I do believe that the SEAL team would not lie.”

Got a link to a statement from the SEAL team? I have only found Obama’s statement and statements from other officials. I sure could use a reliable source on this one.

Thank you.

“DNA evidence is pretty damned concrete as far as evidence goes.”

The DNA evidence was from Bin Laden’s sister. It only proves that a member of the Bin Laden family was killed. It does not prove that Osama was the one.

Thanks for the link.

But, if Seal Team Six had one it would have been
one of 8 to 12 that may exist.
A prototype built in the lab by engineers.

Were it possible for Hussein to convince a dozen Navy seals to LIE on his behalf, I would call it quite possible that this was a phony story. But as the military hate Hussein almost as much as most other actual Americans, my guess is bin Laden really WAS killed on Sunday night.

I'm late tuning in here, we had a little blizzard which knocked out power up here to a 6000 square mile area for a couple of days and I've been news starved.

What Navy SEALs have shown up on the news? It'd be pretty unusual for those guys to get their face somewhere before retirement, especially if they're involved in counterterrorism or an operation against such a high profile target.

My BS meter is pegged, simply because the timing couldn't have been better to make Obama look good, even though he didn't have much to do with anything, Petraeus just got the tap for DCI at CIA, and Panetta is off to the Pentagon, so there is a lot going on at once and this suddenly happens.

Add to it the body getting dumped somewhere instead of recovered, and there's plenty of reason to doubt the veracity of anything Obama says.

Better watch what the other hand is doing, because he's trying to wave a well polished brass ring in this one.

A FReeper who does DNA analysis professionally posted earlier today that, if you had plenty of quality material to work with (which a whole, fresh, dead body would certainly be), the DNA analysis takes about 4 hours.

The best bet, Quake said, will be whole-genome analysis, which takes a week or more using current technology and will produce a complete map of the corpse’s DNA.
