Frontlines next exposé focuses on the decades of abuse of Native Americans by priests and other church workers in Alaska, and in one particular town they find, nearly 80% of the towns children were molested by Catholic priests.
As we reported on this story just a few weeks ago, the Roman Catholic Church, as part of ongoing lawsuits, will make payments to approximately 700 male and female sexual and psychological abuse, molestation, and rape victims who were living in Alaska Native villages and Indian reservations from Montana to Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and who were sexually or psychologically abused as children by Jesuit missionaries in those states in the 1940s through the 1990s, according to a statement by attorneys.
The latest agreement will financially compensate 524 victims with $166.1 million in cases including accusations against 140 Jesuit priests, brothers, and nuns from the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, in the Pacific Northwest. Only $48 million will come from the Catholic Church, the remainder will be paid by its insurance companies.
None of the Jesuit priests are being charged with any crime related to this abuse, rape, and molestation settlement.

I'll be waiting for their expose on Muslim honor killings to be aired during Ramadam.
Every time you think it can’t get any worse....
Shoot them if guilty and proven.
No kidding fing douchbags
WOW.
INDEED.
Sigh.
Ah...the daily FR hatepiece.
I’m sure you take Frontline and PBS at their words on EVERY topic under the sun, right?
Yes, because the message of loving thy neighbor as thyself, and turning the other cheek rather than retaliating, and making oneself the servant rather than the master, etc., is bad, but the message teaching that killing all who don't agree with you is good.
I don't recognize the world anymore.

An order of US Catholic priests has agreed to pay $166 million to hundreds of Native Americans sexually abused by priests at its schools.
Father John Morse is involved in thirty-eight of the claims.
Be sure to whip out your credit cards during the next PBS pledge drive; they’re your kind of people. Better yet, join up with the ‘Rats and demand more taxpayer funding.
Every high profile corporation and organization will settle out of court dozens of times a year. For good reason.

It’s Time For A Nationwide Kiss-In!
I worked for the Alaska northern diocese a while back. The largest geographical diocese in the world with the fewest priest and smallest population. The jesuites were sent there and left entirely alone for years. No help, no supervision. No excuse but perspective that no one could have known these atrocities were going on.
Call your minions. This thread isn’t in the religion forum. Come out and play in the daylight and see if you can handle some hardball.
It's important that people who molest children be brought to justice.
Teachers, coaches, counselors, and pastors who molest children belong in jail.
I grieve for children who have been molested. Their lives are ruined.
Ping! The hate has been posted in News/Activism. Time to open up a can of whup-a** on this crew.
Some have an anti-Catholic agenda.
I guess some only feel better about themselves by tearing down others. Not very Christian but there we are.
Its also Child Abuse Prevention month. The priests didn’t stop raping kids just because it was holy week. What the priests did was hardly “holy”, and their higher ups covered this up through all the weeks of the year.
Also, this show was supposed to be on a few weeks earlier, but there was a change in order when they did the Bradley Manning episode.
Jesuits pay record $166.1 million in child abuse case

UNFAIR? You posted this crap, sister, and in News/Activism. Get ready for some straightforward talk.
“The settlement is believed to be the Catholic Church’s third-largest in the sex abuse cases, behind the Los Angeles Diocese, which agreed to pay $660 million to 508 victims, and the San Diego Diocese, which agreed to pay $198 million to 144 victims, according to the website.”
William Lobdell, former religion editor of the LA Times, and good friend and frequent guest of Hugh Hewitt is one of the folks who uncovered this travesty. He wrote an amazingly good book “Losing My Religion” which covered this story, its a must read.
Yeah, the timing is a bit suspect given how news magazines regularly engage in Jesus revisionism this time of year like clockwork. Seems kind of ridiculous on its face, but there are some accomplished sociopaths out there too.
"Clarita Vargas, a Colville Tribe member and Yakima resident abused at an Omak boarding school, and attorney Blaine Tamaki speak to reporters Friday after announcing an $166 million settlement with the Northwest division of the Catholic Jesuit order.
Pending court approval, the settlement will be paid to about 470 people abused as children at boarding schools operated by the Society of Jesus, Oregon Province, including the Omak school where Vargas was victimized."
"Twenty-nine years have passed since that day, June 29 1972. It was the Feast of Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles. It was the Feast of Saint Paul who brought the Gospel of Christ to the extreme corners of the West. On that day, June 29, Feast of the Patron Saints of Rome, Peters successor who had taken the name of Paul issued a dramatic warning. Paul VI spoke of Gods enemy supreme, that enemy of man called Satan, enemy of the Church. The smoke of Satan, warned Paul VI, has found its way into the Church through the fissures. It was an anguished warning that caused great shock and scandal, even within the Catholic world."Think also of the 19-year-old woman who blasphemed in the presence of Pope John Paul II, "speaking in a cavernous voice," according to witnesses, and was heard to say "not even the head of the church can send me away" after the Pontiff had left the area.
This incident happened during a general Papal audience, in St. Peter's Square, on September 11, 2000.
And McDonald’s paid millions over hot coffee.
sick!!!
Not unlike the leftists who say it’s all about the children. Ironic how disingenuous the comment, because it’s only used to promote an agenda.
Hot coffee doesn’t equal raping a child.
The Jesuits were taken over by sodomites long ago. Catholics had better purge all sodomite clergy pronto.
Yeah, they hit the lottery. And it proves nothing.
I call ‘em as I see ‘em.
Dr., how did you find this article?
Prove the rapes.
It’s on Google News.
Looks like someone was perusing a gay website. Note the link.

Like millions of other gay Americans, I was outraged on November 4th when California passed Proposition 8, and ended a basic human right, the right to love another person, to be accepted by another person, and the law. And like millions of other gay Americans, I was unaware that similar decisions were being made that same day in other states. In Florida, and in Arizona, the right for one man to marry another, or for one woman to marry another, was stolen from us too. Just as unconscionable, in Arkansas, the right of gay couples to adopt was taken away from us.
There are countless reasons why we lost these battles. Perhaps the greatest reason is the one I just stated: I was unaware. My ignorance about what was happening to me, a gay man who at long last has someone he wants to marry, and for the first time in his life sees marriage as possible, not only because there is someone I want to marry, but because the populace has become far more tolerant of gay marriage, my ignorance was worse than the ignorance of those who dont understand gay marriage. My ignorance was easily avoidable. My ignorance was a lack of information; I was uninformed.
Ignorance about the concept, the essence of gay marriage by those whom are morally conditioned to be in disagreement with it is in some respects understandable, although by no means acceptable or tolerable: You were told that it goes against the Bible. You have never seen a gay couple. You are intolerant of others. You are ignorant. You need to be educated and learn that there are others in the world who are built differently.
But, in the Information Age, to be ignorant because information is not readily available is inexcusable. Hence, the purpose of The New Civil Rights Movement: Gay Marriage and Gay Rights. This website is dedicated to keeping you informed of all the issues in the gay rights arena, especially gay marriage. Because weddings are bliss, ignorance is not.
This is a blog. It represents some of my personal thoughts. It is an opinion piece. I try very hard to verify facts, to research my positions, to substantiate the words and thoughts I express here. I am often happy to enter into a public or private discussion. If you or your organization disagree with any statement I make here, I am happy to discuss your point of view. If you can change my mind, I will change my words. Hopefully, you feel the same."

Did you look at this site before posting?
Are you sure you're not a closet leftist? You've been drawing from Google News. Frontline/PBS and a gay lifestyle/political website.
Something you need to get off your chest, Dr?
Always interesting to peruse someone’s posting history to see an agenda.

I heard google was left-leaning, but I am still surprised that they would link to a gay blog like this.
For full disclosure, I don’t use google news, so I don’t know what does and doesn’t come up there and how the site works.
I think you might be interested in this story posted from a gay blog.
"Native Alaskan Rena Abouchuk, of Kelso, reads a statement Wednesday in front of Seattle University that says she was abused by priests as a child in Alaska."
Instead of just trying the typical deflection technique of discrediting the source, why don’t you refute the claims in the article?
Are they wrong? Inaccurate? Misrepresented? Outright lies?
Sorry... this number just doesn’t sound believable.
facts rarely matter when there's an agenda to promote.
Could we just pause and take a deep breath? I'm Jewish so I don't really have any knee-jerk reason to defend the Church and its priests. But I do have Catholic friends who I think would now admit to "strange" treatment and ALL deny that anything untoward ever happened to them of their friends so far as they knew. It's not the same way with TEACHERS.

Ironic that your post should immediately follow post 17 with it’s charitable Catholic content.
