Rep. Ron Paul calls Egypt a "mess" made by U.S. intervention

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, is blaming U.S. policy for the upheaval in Egypt.

"This is a typical example of what happens when we run on intervention-type foreign policies. We get in the middle of these fights. We've been in the middle of this for 30 years now. We've given Mubarak $60 billion. We're responsible for a lot of the mess that is over there," Paul said this afternoon on FOX News Channel's Your World with Neil Cavuto.

Paul, a potential Senate candidate in Texas next year, is a longstanding critic of foreign entanglements, and probably Congress' leading isolationist. His son, Sen. Rand Paul , R-Ky., caused a stir in recent days by advocating for the cutoff of aid to Israel, in the context of a broader push to eliminate all foreign aid. It's a goal he shares with his father.

"I wouldn't just cut off Egyptian aid. I'd cut off all aid to the Middle East and maybe that whole area would be better off for it," the congressman told Fox.

As for concerns that the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood, or even Al-Qaeda, would fill the power vacuum if Mubarak is forced out, Paul said the real problem stems from a U.S. habit of propping up authoritarian leaders. Both Mubarak and the deposed Shah of Iran became targets of popular revolt because they were "our puppet government," he said.

Thanks speciallybland.

No more foreign entanglements, like the one against the Barbary Pirates, the French in North America, the Spanish in the western hemisphere, the Japanese in the Pacific...

"Mubarak is tottering because he failed to protect the Copts from the Muslim Brotherhood. He broke The Social Contract. He has lost Yhe Mandate of Heaven. If he repents, he may retain his position."

Exactly..why give these turds aid and weapons if they only protect their "favorites". Besides..most of the money we send goes to crooks....pigs that squeal loudly when they hear "cut off aid".

What’s Rep. Paul’s email address? I want to ask him to run for president. His campaign website states that his campaign email adddress is victory@ronpaulforcongress.com. I sent an email to that address, and it was returned.

I’m sorry..I do not have Ron Paul’s email. He cannot win because he appears emotionally immature. I don’t believe that is true..but it’s just part of his ingrained personality. I believe he has been used by both parties as a sure thing to split votes and confound the Libertarian message. Best of Luck to you.

I agree that Paul probably won’t win. I hope that about seven Republicans will seek the nomination and that four of them will continue campaigning until the Republican National Convention. If that happens, no one will have the majority of the delegates before the convention. The convention will be more suspenseful, causing more people to watch and hear the great republican ideas. That’s what happened in 1980, and Reagan won about 40 states.
