The Dept. Of Homeland Security Literally Has No Idea What's Going On
Business Insider ^ | Dec. 22, 2010 | Glynnis MacNicol

The fallout from the Dept. of Homeland Security's interview with Diane Sawyer keeps getting worse.

Following Janet Napolitano's "364 days a year" gaffe (funny if not all that worrisome) Sawyer asked Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about the arrests of 12 suspected terrorists in London earlier that morning.

Said Sawyer: "First of all, London. How serious is it? Any implication that it was coming here?"

He didn't know what she was taking about.

Clapper’s been in the intel world for years - was at NSA and Air Intelligence Agency before he retired. He wasn’t briefed and didn’t know, which is an indictment both of his subordinates and of him, for not insisting on getting the daily brief that goes to the White House.

I believe that many conservatives continue to make the unbelievable assumption that this regime is merely incompetent, merely misguided in their efforts to protect this country and it people, and to maintain the greatness of our nation. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Perhaps these three stooges on the Sawyer show are incompetent, but they were put there, and are kept there, on purpose by higher authorities who WANT the worst for our nation and its people.

It’s time for those still asleep to wake up, and quit cutting these people the slack of thinking that our leaders mean us well. They do not.

There is only one way to deal with government failure like this: send them even more of our tax dollars. /sarcasm

They sure spent incredible amounts of energy studying what gay soldiers like to do with their wee wees...

Now, we can go to the airport and they can gaze at our wee wees and grope our wee wees to make sure our little wee wees are safe for air travel.

Amazing technology!

My wee wee somehow doesn’t feel much safer in a lead condom today than it did Sept. 10, 2000 A.D. just swinging in the breeze...

And the borders are still wide open!

This is the same regime that tells us we can “absorb” another terror attack, and pretty much insists that one is inevitable...

but doesn’t seem the least bit interested in being informed and preventing it.

muawiyah, Did you really watch this interview? If so you, like many others, have a very serious problem and it is psychological problem. James Clapper’s exact words in response to why he didn’t know were, “Oh, I,m sorry I didn’t.” According to your theory, this was a very clever lie. However, the defense of Clapper did not take that route. His office claimed that Sawyer’s question was “ambiguous.” The question was, “London. How serious is it? Any implications that it was coming here?” The conforms to Brennan’s remark, “You referred to London, but you didn’t talk about the arrests.” Just another trick questions from the right-wing media I guess. Stick to your guns muawiyah and remember “Obama did not bow.” Oh, don’t forget to take your meds.

This was a very serious lack of knowledge on the part of DHS, and Clapper. Watching the video, you can tell he was caught red-handed with no clue, and he looked the part. Even the dim Obama admin must wince when things like this happens.

The Department of Homeland Security has bigger fish to fry that worrying about terrorists and terrorist plots.

Their goal is to turn America and its citizens into placid, compliant sheep ... to invade the personal space of law-abiding citizens with naked Xrays and invasive searches, and to invade the public space with “citizen snitch” programs rolled out at WalMart, et al.

The goal is to make all Americans inured to government intrusions of all types. The “War on Terror” and the threat of terrorism are just convenient excuses.

If this government gave a damn about Homeland Security we would not have 15+ million illegal aliens roaming freely, and borders like sieves.

Gee, I saw the interview, and I've been living around DC for over 40 years and have seen PLENTY of appointees, career bureaucrats and politicians LIE.

There are some pretty standard ways they cover the fact they don't know if they are allowed to comment on stuff ~ he used one of them, but he's a newbie. In a matter of weeks he'll have it down and he'll tell you lies and you'll love it.

Yes, classified. Some of you guys just don't get it. If you've heard classified information and are told that it's classified, the standard rule is to treat it as classified until someone in authority over it tells you it's been DECLASSIFIED.

If it hasn't been DECLASSIFIED and it's still CLASSIFIED, it doesn't matter who had it all over the news.

Could be. Maybe not. I don't know anything about his staff ~ although I do know people over there in that agency who would probably let this guy step into an open elevator shaft just to hear the thunk at the bottom ~ but they'd do that for anyone.

He might even be a drunk.

The agenda makes them look incompetent?

You don't look incompetent without an incompetent agenda...and you don't have an incompetent agenda unless you are, if fact, incompetent!

We still have a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy for terrorists.

No one in the administration can bring themselves to accuse anyone who has comitted a terrorist act, a terrorist. That runs the risk of upsetting them even more.

If the risk level wasn't excalating, it would be humorous.

The only thing that's going to wake this country up is some major attack or an all-out war. I'm convinced that day isn't too far off in the future.
