PANAMA CITY, Fla. — A gunman has opened fire during a Florida Panhandle school board meeting. It's not immediately known if there were fatalities or injuries.

A WMBB television reporter at Tuesday's meeting says the man came up to the podium at the Bay District School Board meeting and said he had a motion. He then pulled out a can of red spray paint and painted a "V" with a circle around it.

Reporter Nadeen Yanes tells her station he then pulled out a handgun and started talking.

Yanes says a school board member hit the gunman with her purse and he pushed her to the ground and started firing randomly.

■The Circle "V" The symbol of "V" in V for Vendetta (film) is that of a red V within a circle, like an inverted Circle "A", without the horizontal bar through it. In the film, the symbol of the V appears several times: ■at the title sequence in fire ■when V rescues Evey he defaces a poster with the slash of a V, much like Zorro ■it is displayed in the corner as a logo during his television broadcast to London ■on graffiti sprayed by a little girl. There are definite ties to the movie V for Vendetta and the topic of anarchism, most of which are quite obvious in the character of "V" himself, standing up to a corrupt fascist government. The symbol also appears in the graphic novel. http://miriadic.wikia.com/wiki/Symbols_of_Anarchism

This settles it. We need to begin confiscating purses.

Things would have been just fine if this lady had not hit him with her purse.

Or maybe he's just really, really, really upset that they haven't started showing the new season of "V" yet?

Seriously, prayers up that nobody is hurt.

And riiiiight about then is when he would have a 3rd eye appear from my smoking KelTec pocket .380.

Seriously, concealed carry would help a lot of these public shootings.

Don't bring a purse to a gunfight.

Unless you have something a little more persuasive inside.

Is the school board meeting held in a school? Sound like that ‘gun free zone’ thing is the gift that keeps on giving.

“Gunman opens fire during Fla. school board meeting”

Ever wonder why this kind of thing is rare at shooting ranges?

" Well, revolution's gotta start somewhere - but a school board??

Seriously - why can't we skip over the piddly school board and head to DC and spray paint the image above on all OUR buildings until OUR servants get OUR message to not bankrupt the middle class to give the rick a tax cut."

More info from MSNBC.com

Panama City police Sgt. Jeff Becker said one person was shot, but he would not say if it was the gunman. According to wjhg.com, it’s believed the man fired blanks at school board members, and was then shot by authorities, or may have shot himself.

Board chairman Ryan Neves told the Panama City News Herald that no school board members were injured.

Often, the criminals are on the school board.

This is a societal problem. Government, federal, state and local has too quickly become overly authoritarian above its ability to confiscate and take citizens’ firearms. The ‘problem’ is when those among us cannot abide the oppression peacefully.

They have the superintendent on now. He said he thought the gunman had a combination of blanks and bullets but down’t know for sure.

he says the guy pointed the gun right at him and pulled the trigger.

Doesn’t make sense as he also says there are bullet holes everywhere. The suspect was shot by the school safety officer.

The gunman is dead.
