Reagan birth centennial stamp debuts
The Washington Times ^ | December 13, 2010 | Mark A. Kellner

Posted on 12/13/2010 12:06:08 PM PST by jazusamo

If it was "morning in America" for President Ronald Reagan, a new commemorative postage stamp due in February to mark "the Gipper's" birth centennial will forever view the sunrise.

The new commemorative stamp, whose design was unveiled Monday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., always will be valid for a 1-ounce first-class letter, the U.S. Postal Service confirmed. It officially will be released at the library on Feb. 10, 2011, four days after the 100th anniversary of Reagan's birth.

Texas artist Bart Forbes did the portrait, based on a 1985 photograph of Reagan taken at Rancho del Cielo, near Santa Barbara, Calif.

The design was published first in Linn's Stamp News, a hobbyist publication. Earlier this year, Linn's broke the news that a Reagan Centennial postage stamp would be released.

Although the preliminary design shows a 44-cent value, the postal agency recently announced that all commemorative, or special, issues will be inscribed with "Forever," instead of a face value, meaning they would sell for the then-current first-class rate but would remain valid for first-class mail even when rates increase.

A USPS spokesman who asked not to be identified by name said a revised version showing the "Forever" inscription will be released Dec. 28.

I think I need a cup of coffee this morning. I’m tired from yesterday.

Thanks. I needed that.
My bad for staying up late, waking up early and working in between.

Some oatmeal and I’m ready to start the day. I think.

I put a chicken in the slow cooker, and realized I need to go get some Bisquick for dumplings. It’s been so long since I made dumplings...

Now the chicken is beginning to smell cooked, and I need to leave it long enough to go to the store.

I’m back. All byos are swimmed. Next they can be fed, bathed, and deposited in their various beds, with extreme prejudice.

Ooohhh!

Time for a Restorative! I’d join you but I don’t think you’re apart, yet.

After I got the biscuit mix, I decided I didn’t want dumplings. Maybe I’ll do them tomorrow. Just eating the chicken, now.

I had too many restoratives last week. Lots of Weight Watchers Points ...

You could make biscuits or pancakes tomorrow. I’m not that fond of dumplings, anyway.

I need to find Frank ... he’s wandered off mumbling about having the hiccups. And the slender and elusive Bill needs to clean the cat box again.

And a search for dirty clothes, because although three byos were washed, there are not three sets of dirty clothes in the basket.

Ohno!

Not Missing Ar-tickles of Clothing! I used to threaten my daughter that her dirty clothes would just pile up in her room until she was going around naked, because they were her responsibility. Of course, she was 15 by then...

Biscuits crossed my mind at the same time dumplings did, but there is all this beautiful broth left over...so it will be dumplings. Although, I shouldn’t even have that...just protein for the next day or so to stop my blood sugar from bottoming out.

Still, I like buttered dumplings...

"You just have to dumb it down enough for me."

Not necessarily. Proper sequencing helps.

For instance, to understand engineering better, study physics first.

Or even better, if you want to teach elementary school, start with the basics; atomic theory.

Then it's easy.

That sounds so good! Supper was at Taco Crime -- I worked until 5:30 to wrap up the first draft of a whitepaper for work, then headed off to a "nearby" church to see Iranium this evening. The sionnsareens were down in Tacoma helping a friend who needed eye surgery or some such and who couldn't drive (we have another mutual friend with possibly the same condition), and were headed back up. Arrived in plenty of time for the film, and to meet with a bunch of longtime conservative Republican friends from so many campaigns.

Not many Iranians present, but I saw and greeted one fellow I knew from our pro-Iranian freedom rallies. He just smiled when he saw me.

Iranium is well-made and profoundly disturbing. I hope many of those present (the church was near full and it seats 1500) learned a lot from it. Both the extent of our danger and possibly how the game can change without military action.

Helpful on the theory, yes. But it's a really different game once you get out into the workaday world. That's when you really begin to learn the art and practice of engineering -- fresh out of school, you make mistakes and I made my share. Yet I have known good engineers who never got a degree.

But the theory can be useful: I once tackled the effort to design a "glitch-capture" circuit that was better than giant rival HP's. Their circuit used 4 very power-hungry but super-fast ICs -- and the instrument required 32 of those circuits, one per channel. 3 days of cranking equations (boolean logic) and I came up with a faster one that used only 1-1/2 of those very power-hungry but super-fast ICs per channel. Ah, the good old days...

Good morning, everyone. 21 this a.m., and a little cloudy. Maybe it will clear up for Sunbeam Time. I went to bed about 8:30 last night, finished the biography of Rush Limbaugh I was reading, and had lights out before 9:00. The overnight people didn’t make coffee, but Ash and I handled it when we got up.
