In 1996, I read, in the L.A. Times, that, in Oregon, scientists found a skeleton, and they know, from the bones, that the person was a white man.I'm pretty sure you just set a record for most commas in a sentence.

Ainu are Japanese and they look Caucasoid.

No it doesn’t match Inuit DNA. BTW, Inuit legends from Greenland say that the last Greenland Vikings were wiped out by European pirates most probably English. Revenge I guess.

Of course, you do know that a lengthy stay on Iceland would give Favre’s nagging injuries a chance to heal in time for his next comeback? LOL Bob
To: xjcsa
Maybe I did set that record, but all of the commas were apporpriate, according to current grammar rules.

As a Viking descendant, I thank you.

There are several reasons that I think the Vikings new about NA early.
1. Viking young men go on spring cruises. If you sail far enough North, above Baffin Bay, Greenland and NA just about meet, roughly 25 miles between the two. The 200 miles that I mentioned are from an area that is 400 miles north of the Southern tip of Greeenland and it is indeed very close to NA.
2. Salmon run up the Baffin Bay and then turn sharply left to go to the spawning streams in NA. This would have been very clear to the Vikings, probably early as they searched for better fishing grounds. They would have known to follow the salmon to land.

Someday Harry Reid will be a god on another planet, and your remarks will be used against you.
But there is a way out. If Mormonism is a bit tough for you, check out Scientology, which provides the same god-on-another-planet option to its adherents. That way, YOU could become a god on another planet and tell Harry to Foxtrot Oscar.

I remember back in my first year of college we were supposed to read 4 books on history other than US. I did not read the outline right it was to read 4 books on historical persons that had helped to influence the building of America that were not Americans but I ended up reading 4 books on Vikings two of which were about Vikings coming to America. We had to write an essay on them plus an oral examine to see if we really had read them. My professor ended up giving me a B because I had really read the books did a bunch of follow up on other sources about vikings but it was embarrassing when I went into his office and he explained the assignment to me again and I had to justify why I read only books on vikings. My first experience at free style razzle dazzle on BS’ing my teacher didn't go over so well but I guess he gave me a B for effort. :) I guess that what happens when you spend to much time reading Robert E. Howard books and other barbarian adventures.

Why the hostility and disdain toward them? Their material culture was centuries behind that of Western Europe. They used their women as pack animals and many practiced human sacrifice and cannibalism. But they did make astronomical discoveries that were ahead of the Europeans, and had devised advanced metallurgy methods. They created sophisticated hydrology systems and hybridized plants long before the Europeans did. Their textiles and art were and are marvelous. They were what they were, and I certainly don’t despise them for it.

Pity poor Leif Ericsson Even Archeologist must have learned by now what the layman has always known. It is not who was first but rather who made it stick that counts.
