The smell had to be overpowering.

That she would not look to her family for help or keep in touch with them tells me she had a screw loose, as do MOST homeless people.

Margit's family told police the last time they heard from her was in December, when they reported her missing. That's the last time anyone reported seeing her alive, police said.

Her family might have been like the Osbourne's not the Cleaver's.

Signe Margit, 59, had two master's degrees but was homeless. Trained to be a teacher, she had filed for bankruptcy and appeared to have recurring money troubles. (Costa Mesa Police Department)

The smell had to be overpowering.

I found a totally dessicated mouse inside a wall in my house. Had to have been there for years. It still smelled. Sort of an ammonia smell. A whole human body must have been a horrible smell. You would think the realtor's clothes and hair would reek after riding in the car.

Having advanced degrees does not necessarily translate into success in business or the working world.

It looks like her degrees were a kalifornia useless specialty. Crap like Gender Studies, etc. What a freaking waste. I went to school at Cal State. The nonsense those fools make up boggle the mind.

The smell had to be overpowering.

Realtor to prospective clients: "Let me show you some homes in your price range."

Clients: "We'll just follow in our car."

I’m guessing the dead homeless lady had a social security check coming and the real estate lady didn’t want to have that stopped.

Possibly. I’m thinking they did drugs together, victim died of what the other one thought was an overdose, and she was afraid of being implicated as the one who provided the drugs.

"“But a portrait of Margit is slowing emerging”."

I'd rather have a "portrait" of the real estate agent. Wow, what a weirdo!

“But a portrait of Margit is slowing emerging”.

...she had 2 Masters. The writer didn’t pass wood shop. Proof reading is always nice!"

Or, how about this paragraph below (see original article) - "they", "them" ?? How many bodies WERE in the car??? What stupid writing!

"After breaking into the car, police found a body "seated in a reclined position in the front passenger seat with clothing items covering THEM," according to the police report on the case. "It was evident THEY had been deceased for some time. The body was found to be in a mummified state.""

I originally thought the body must be in the back seat. Did she carry on conversations with it?

"Signe dear is your seat belt fastened"?

Used car for sale. Cheap!

Back in trhe '70s (I believe), there was a story about a guy who answered a classified ad about a super cheap Cadillac. He looked it over and commented that the car smelt "funny" and passed on it. Later it turned out that some old folks had driven the Cad out into the desert, got lost, ran the car's AC until the gas was used up, died, and cooked for a couple of days before being found.

The dealer said he had tried "every damn thing known to man" to get rid of the smell. The guy that didn't buy the car said it didn't smell bad, just funny, and his instinct told him to steer clear.

A while back the History Channel had a WWII vet talk about his job refurbishing tanks after they had been hit. Said they could never get the fried-body completely out and when the new tank crews mentioned the odd smell, he told them it was the paint. When you figure a tank is thick metal, the "aroma" must be pretty pungent to imbed itself in the steel.

That sounds like Belton Cooper who wrote the book “Death Traps”. His job in WW2 was to lead a unit that refurbished destroyed sherman tanks just behind the front line. He wrote that usually the hole in the turret where the shell penetrated was so small it could simply be plug welded, but removing the smell and all of the body parts from inside the turret was impossible. Many tanks were hit and restored multiple times, and you have to admire the special courage not only of those who would crew such “death traps” as he called them, but the men who would descend into the turret to remove what was left of the old crew.

The HOV lane is important...

LOL yes the HOV lane was one of the first things I thought of. The second thing was: what makes you more unemployable these days than two master's degrees? A real estate license.

Now they’ve got ozone generators that do a pretty good job.

A friend of mine did landscaping and a client asked them to clean out his shed. The guy had had a clambake a couple weeks before and the garbage from it was put in the shed. He and his workers nearly croaked from the smell. The shed never did return to normal.
