I agree. A lot of people on FR are sounding like DUmmies about this. The mohammedans haven't stopped just because there's a wimpy Marxist mohammedphile in the white house.

Remember Madrid, folks?

Why would a setup NOT include a power source? It would be much more troublesome for a completely constructed bomb to be shipped over here. It wouldn’t have to be set to detonate at all if it were just a ruse.

The fact that there was no power source tells me this was a delivery for completion of construction, and then implementation.

Remember, BO said we can absorb another attack. ONe only can hope that it is absorbed by those deserving to absorb it.

I don’t understand why you think this is an October surprise. Why would they create a partially constructed bomb for a ruse? And then disrupt business not only at UPS but FedEx and other carriers? I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but the White House and the DHS can pretty much plant any story they want in the heavily liberal press. They wouldn’t need to go to such ridiculous lengths. What if the bomb wasn’t discovered in London? Then what? To get to a synagogue shipped from the East Coast to Chicago would take at least three business days, which would put the receive date AFTER the elections, not before...

I heard it on Fox News but we have to start with the possibility that their info was wrong. But I have heard all day that the packages were addressed to specific locations. Jewish centers in Chicago. That sounds like the intended target not an intermediate jihadi.

True. Which is why I surmised the possibility of an intercept. But, what’s the likelihood of that?

None of it adds up. Could it be an abstract warning for an attack not on synagogues, but somewhere else? I’m just not buying the wag the dog scenario. There were too many players here: Saudi intelligence, Dubai, Yemen, and Britain.

I keep reminding myself that AQ has a fetish for returning to the scene of past failed attempts. And Times Square comes to mind - Thanksgiving Day Parade....

“Why would a setup NOT include a power source?”

If there are bulk scanners (CT scanner or the like) with Automated Threat Detection algorithms, they will likely trip on suspicion of explosives if there is a power source.

Bomb people look for a “firing train” and power source as much as they look for explosives themselves.

Ship them here, then add the 9V battery, arm, and deliver. I think you have it right.

No way was this a “dry run”, someone either twigged to it or some scanner caught some. Why in the world risk exposure through a dry run?

Oh, the report also said they were designed to be triggered by a cell phone or something similar. Would you send a bomb half way around the world that could be accidentally triggered by someone else's random transmission?

I don't know much about explosive devices but that sounds like a flaky thing to do. But if it's missing a power source for the detonator who cares how many radio signals hit it?

I heard the same as well which is why I was really confused when I read it was “sheer luck” one did not go off.

I am beginning to think the administration is handling this no better than they handled the underwear bomber. It seems the only lesson learned was get obie in front of the camera ASAP.

PR and public perception is top of the list instead of our security. They do not want Obama to take the beating he did Christmas. Not with the election days away.

Then you have to get into the FedEx and the UPS sorting plants or hi-jack the drivers on the street, take the package and ...

That's about as bad as writing your bank robbery note on your own deposit slip. (that really happened BTW)

Addressed to the target? Unless they have a jihadi inside the Synagogue.

Yeah, I agree. Someone would have to be in contact with the package between the cargo plane and the sorting plant. Not impossible, but not likely enough to be an explanation.
