Yep. I noticed W in the stands last night. The top of the eighth was a heart breaker for the Rangers. It was a fun game to watch though. On to game 2.

Why did Josh Hamilton swing at that first, outside pitch by Rivera? All he needed was to work him deep into the count until he could get something to bloop to tie the game. Disappointing impatience.

Little story: A friend of mine's wife and her two sisters waited all night outside Tiger stadium, slept in sleeping bags, just to get tickets for that game at the Tiger box office.
We get to our seats at the game and the guy sitting right next to me with his son was a friend of mine from work who was the purchasing department manager. He had his tickets handed to him by one of our vendors..........lucky SOB

If you've never listened to Bob Costas retell the story in Ken Burns' PBS documentary Baseball, you've missed, IMO, the greatest description of an at-bat in the world.
Even now, years after I last watched it, it sends shivers down my spine and almost brings me to tears.
Kurt was so hurt that he could barely walk, and he was still able to hit one out of the park. The image of watching him limp to first base is permanently etched in my mind.

I loved that moment too! I was jumping up and down when he did it. The next night when the tv people interspersed the build up and hit with the movie scene from the “Natural” was so great to watch. I felt like I did when the USA Hockey team beat the Russians in the Olympics in the 70’s or 80 something.

I don’t know if the 7th inning stretch was broadcast, but when God Bless America was being sung they showed W on the big screen. He wass loudly cheered, not a single boo could be heard. That said, the crowd was rather obnoxious. Never been to Yankee stadium but I imagine that is what it must be like. Seeing Nolan on the mound again was the highlight of the game along with Josh’s home run and the flyover. The Rangers stuck with this manager and now it is evident the crack addled old boy is not up to the task. CJ pitched a great game, and was pulled too early. So he gave up a double to Jeter, and they got lucky on an infield single. He could have been given one more batter to face as they had a 4 run lead. But this manager is out of touch and simply falls back to the pitch count trend of 110 and out. No real thought here, just a trend-driven formula. And one of failure. So could CJ have really done any worse? What was washington thinking, he was protecting his arm? Yeah, that worked well for Strasburg didn’t it? I remember Nolan throwing in excess of 150 pitches regularly and doing it in a 4 man rotation. Funny thing, he played in 27 years in the majors. Noone else in the history of the game ever did.
Rangers and Nolan were put in between a rock (no pun intended) and a hard place when this asshole finally owned up to smoking crack and lying about it to them... during the middle of spring training. I have said it before and I will say it again... a manager can not win a ballgame, but he can damn sure find a way to lose one. Give the Rangers credit, they went through a lot this year and made it this far. I can’t speak for ALL of their fans, but Nolan certainly deserves better.

Lucky you! I was flipping channels that night and happened across the game. I saw the box score and I decided to watch it in case something “magical” happened. I’m glad I did and it’s one of my fondest baseball memories.
I agree, the Rangers have gotten this far, in spite of Ron Washington, and he showed last night he doesn’t know how to manage pitchers.
I knew as soon as Darren Oliver came in, we were going to lose the game.
Kind of like ramming TARP in the bottom of the 9th of your administration eh, George?
If the Rangers were smart, they would can Washington and replace him with Clint Hurdle. Hurdle is the reason the Rangers have made it this far, and would be a much better manager.
Can’t figure out if that ss dude is eyeballing Ruth because she still looks great at her age or he thinks she might go off on w for setting us up for the marxist...

I got to see him pitch a no-hitter and a two-hitter in the Dome back in the 80s. Seems like both of them were late season games.
Some of my fondest memories of my youthful days are at the Dome watching Ryan, Scott, DeShaies, Cruz, Bagwell, Biggio, etc.
