Try these facts on for size ... go to 'great circle mapper' and input Westchester Airport (HPN) and New London/Groton (GON). The heading is 77 degrees east ... the tracking line parallels I-95.
Further, if you input Albany (ALB) from Westchester (HPN) you will be interested to know the heading is 357 degrees north. The tracking line follows I-87, which beyond Albany is known as the 'Adirondack North Way'. Not the 'Adirondack Northwest Way'.
