MIAMI — A hurricane watch was issued for the coasts of Texas and Mexico in the Gulf on Monday as Tropical Storm Hermine approached.

The hurricane watch covered the area from Rio San Fernando, Mexico, northward to Baffin Bay in Texas.

Hermine's maximum sustained winds had increased to near 50 mph. Additional strengthening is expected and the storm could approach hurricane strength before making landfall.

Hermine was located about 205 miles south-southeast of Brownsville, Texas, moving north-northwest near 13 mph.

Heavy rain was predicted with northeastern Mexico into south Texas getting 4 to 8 inches with as much as a foot in some places. The storm could cause flash floods and mudslides.

This is great! Some areas around Houston are very dry. Several inches of rain and very little wind will be good.

"Hermine?" Hey what happened to Fiona and Gaston, they were supposed to be the #two and three punches after Earl. Darn these hurricanes, they just aren't reliable anymore.

I’m in Katy and looking forward to the needed rain. It is looking quite ominous right now.

They are not even projecting hurricane strength winds. Why the hurricane watch?

We are in Houston and it looks like the first rain has skipped over us, looking forward to the next.

Fiona went to sea with the fishes. Gaston basically died to nothing but still has potential to reform and upgrade again. Here is the current location of what was TS Gaston. Note the circle with redlines SE of Cuba.

We could use the rain! Plus, gully washers will slow down border crossings.

First set of outer bands of the front just passed through Montgomery county. Didn’t even know there was a hurricane watch until seeing this thread, just thought it was another small storm.
