Waters: Race Is Element in Ethics Charges

The national Democratic Party is spending $50 million this year to mobilize the so-called Obama surge voters of 2008 – which means, in part, turning out huge numbers of African-American voters in November.

The effort probably wasn’t helped today when U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters took to the airwaves of black radio stations across the country to say that the House ethics charges being brought against her are the unjust result of her advocacy for black Americans.

Moreover, the California Democrat seemed to suggest that her ethics hearings, likely to come in September in the leadup to the elections, could turn on race.

House investigators have accused her of seeking federal help for a bank where her husband served on the board. Waters says she was standing up for black-owned banks in general – and is now being attacked for it.

Appearing on the Rev. Al Sharpton’s show, Keepin’ It Real, Waters said it was time “to stand up and be proud of the fact that we’re representing our people, we’re representing our issues, and we’re not taking a back seat because somehow somebody believes that every time we move to be an advocate we’re doing something wrong.”

She concluded: “This is the time to take it on.”

It is, in the same sense that race is an element in the fact that blacks are 12% of the U.S. population and commit 50% of the murders.

Someone needs to remind the SOB that she's supposed to be representing all the people, not just the black ones.

Maxine Waters would be a disgrace to whatever race she belonged to. What she did, I understand, would be a felony if charged and found in an ordinary criminal court. She should be thankful that the recalled Ethics Committee only asked for a reprimand.

The interesting thing is the implications of her race card defense. In essence, she is saying that criminal conduct is more common among black Members of Congress. Therefore, we should cut them some slack.

The truth is the opposite. No crooked Member of Congress should ever be cut any slack. You can't drain the north half of the swamp while leaving the south half just as bad as it always was.’

The media are avoiding the whole concept that she and Rangel might be being pursued because they supported Hillary in the primaries.

Why are the blacks hitting with the race card? They have nothing else supporting their cause. This needed to be said. It will bite them in the back side if they continue.

“somehow somebody believes that every time we move to be an advocate we’re doing something wrong.”

No, no Maxine. When you move to enrich yourself at public expense, you’re doing something wrong. It’s called “corruption,’ and it’s neither black, white, brown or yellow.

remember the woman that sued Southwest airlines (she had “anxiety and shortness of breath”)

because the flight attendant said

“pick a seat, we gotta go”
