Gingrich leads
Public Policy Polling ^ | 07/16/2010 | Tom Jensen

Our monthly look at who GOP voters prefer as their 2012 nominee finds that Sarah Palin is the most popular potential Republican hopeful with the base...but that she finishes just fourth when it comes to who they want as their nominee. For the first time Newt Gingrich is the leader in this poll with 23%, followed by Mike Huckabee at 21%, Mitt Romney at 19%, Palin at 17%, and Ron Paul at 7%.

70% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Palin, putting her tops. That's followed by Huckabee at 64%, Gingrich at 63%, and Romney at 59%. But only 24% of the GOP loyalists who like Palin list her as their top choice for the 2012 nomination. Gingrich is ahead even though he's not as popular because 34% with a positive opinion name him as their top choice for the nomination. That figure is 31% for Romney and 28% for Huckabee. There is a significant disconnect between liking Palin and thinking she should be President, and that's one of the biggest things she'll have to overcome if she does end up getting into the race.

Angry white men were credited for making Gingrich Speaker of the House in 1994 and they're propelling him to the lead in this poll. He gets 26% from them with Romney at 20% and Huckabee and Palin both at 17%. Huckabee has the advantage with women at 26% to 19% for Gingrich, 18% for Romney, and 17% for Palin.

Romney was born in Detroit to two American citizens. I realize Detroit resembles Mombassa today, but in 1947 it was still an American city.

Mitt Romney was born in the United States. Both his parents were United States citizens. Mitt Romney’s mother was born in the United States - that makes her a United States citizen under the 14th Amendment and at common law. Mitt Romney’s father was born in Mexico, but both his parents were United States citizens - that makes him a United States citizen by statute duly enacted by Congress under its power “To establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization” enumerated in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.

Please point out what is inaccurate in the above paragraph. How is Mitt Romney not a natural born citizen?

Nope.

Mitt Romney's grandfather

"Romney's grandparents were polygamous Mormons who fled the United States with their children because of the federal government's opposition to polygamy.[1] His maternal grandfather was Helaman Pratt (1846–1909), who presided over the Mormon mission in Mexico City before moving to the state of Chihuahua and who was the son of original Mormon apostle Parley P. Pratt (1807–1857).[2][3] Romney's uncle Rey L. Pratt (1878–1931) would in the 1920s play a major role in the preservation and expansion of the Mormon presence in Mexico and in its introduction to South America.[4] Romney's parents were Gaskell Romney (1871–1955), who was not polygamous, and Anna Amelia Pratt; they married in 1895 in Mexico.[1][3] A more distant kinsman was George Romney (1734–1802), a noted portrait painter in Britain during the last quarter of the 18th century.[5]

George Wilcken Romney was thus born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua – one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico – on July 8, 1907, to American parents.[1][6] George had three older brothers and would gain two more brothers and a sister.[7]

Right now, Gingrich is the only name I feel I could vote for for president. And I have so many reservations about him. The lesser of evils....again it seems.

Yes. She had breast cancer. He is also the one having an affair with his intern during the Clinton impeachment...yet...he is the only name I see I could vote for...as I said...another election with the lesser of evils to vote for.

I’m hoping Chris Christie or Jan Brewer runs. Those are the only ones I could get excited about. They’ve shown their bona fides as Governors.

From your own post: George Wilcken Romney was thus born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua – one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico – on July 8, 1907, to American parents.

He had American parents. That makes him a United States citizen by birth pursuant to the Naturalization Act of 1790. In fact, the Naturalization Act of 1790 states that a person born abroad to citizen parents "shall be considered as natural born citizens."

I will do some more research on Christie. Brewer is not a favorite of mine. But who asked me? I am already saying uncle on Gingrich. I tried..to overlook the fact he is still Newt..But amongst the other names...I like Huckabee. I do not want him as my president. And no way would I vote for Romney. He is sleazy. Nor the others. What a conundrum. Hopefully we come up with a decent name that will appeal to mainstream voters. If not, we are doomed. I hate to sound dramatic..but doomed we will be.

I don’t look forward to the next elections, afraid we are going to have another hard choice.

Yes he did... but they never stopped attacking him no matter how badly he thrashed them... and Reagan never quit battling them either. One of my favorites... cornered coming out of the Whitehouse, putrid marxist anti-American sam donaldson asked Reagan, “Don't you feel some responsibility for the homeless in America today”?

Reagan, “Yes I do Sam... I was once a dim-O-rat”.

LOL

One of reagan’s greatest achievements was he made it cool to be a republican and very un-cool to be a democrat(I don’t get this with palin). He was the republicans’ antidote to nixon.
